to think that people don't judge others on their choice of curry?

Was having a conversation with a friend today.

She reckons that people look down on people who choose mild curry as though that is the wimp's choice. (NB my words not hers)

And that liking progressively hotter curries is a rite of passage that you have to go through, almost like a qualification.

I mean, what if you just don't like spicy food?!?

NB I ask this as a curry wimp - I go for the korma every time.

I don't like spicy hot food. I go for curry because DH and DD like to go. I always have korma, always will. Have tried others and I simply don't enjoy it. I get some light hearted joking about it sometimes, but only from close friends/family - never been an issue for me though. I am the first to admit I can't do spicy.

DH gets more ribbing as he tends to go for the same curry every time - not a mild one, just happens to be the same curry every time.

I judge you. Hot curry is a good indicator of moral fibre. Never trust anyone who won't eat a madras, is my motto.

Katienana · 16/10/2013 18:37

Korma eaters are unadventurous. Yabu.

Lovecat · 16/10/2013 18:39

I judge you because korma is revolting. Sorry :)

KatieScarlett2833 · 16/10/2013 18:39

What a load of crap.
As if it is any indicator of anything to choose a food deliberately because eating it makes you appear hard. Except that the person who thinks this is deluded.

cardibach · 16/10/2013 18:40

I don't judge on the heat or otherwise of the curry chosen - I went to India this summer and our guide, who was very much a local, ate a variety of 'strengths' of curry from the very mild up. However I think you are missing out if you always have Korma as there are many different mild curries available. I might judge the lack of adventurous spirit!

wem · 16/10/2013 18:40

Well, it's one of two things. Either she judges people on their choice of curry, and likes to believe that others do the same, or she is terribly insecure about her choice of curry, in which case I feel sorry for her as what a bizarre thing to worry about!

GoldenGytha · 16/10/2013 18:41

I don't like curry of any description at all,

So what does that make me? Confused

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/10/2013 18:41

Yabu, I love a hot curry.

I can't stand creamy food. Coconut makes me heave so the thought of having to share something like that just disappoints me.

Moln · 16/10/2013 18:41

maybe, a bit, sometimes think men (never come across a woman doing this, though there probably are some) who loudly select the hottest curry are wallys.

I like spicey, but have to say korma is a nice curry, if you like it, you like it.

CMOTDibbler · 16/10/2013 18:41

I don't judge on hotness, but I think its a shame when people never try anything different as theres so many lovely mild curries.
Actually I do judge - people who insist on having ultra hot curries, rather than thinking about the taste

samithesausage · 16/10/2013 18:41

Why order something that you're not going to enjoy?
If you like korma, have korma.

I judge you on the amount of poppadoms you consume though......

SPsTombRaidingWithCliff · 16/10/2013 18:41

I dont judge but I wouldn't call Korma a curry. More a desert Grin

I love madras. I want one now

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 16/10/2013 18:43

I judge judgey people.

If you like Korma though maybe branch out and try Butter Chicken or a Pasanda - equally mild and very nice and a change from constantly having Korma.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 16/10/2013 18:44

I love hot curries, but more important is the flavor. If the wimpy korma curry has a nice flavor then I'll happily scoff one!

Moln · 16/10/2013 18:44

Sorry insert YAB a bit U at the start of my post

KatieScarlett2833 · 16/10/2013 18:44

I've tried every curry I can.
I just prefer coconutty, creamy variants. Would love a Passander right now Grin

harticus · 16/10/2013 18:44

korma is hindi for wuss

MarmaladeBatkins · 16/10/2013 18:45

I laugh at my friend. She is also a Korma orderer. It's like ordering a plate of hot yoghurt.

She doesn't understand why I would choose to set my mouth alight with a madras, either.

I am more likely to judge people who order a chicken tikka masala with half rice, half chips though, tbh. Plenty of authentic indian currys are mild in heat.

DurhamDurham · 16/10/2013 18:45

I must admit to 'judging' my dh if he gets his usual korma when we go out for a curry. I just think he is missing out on so many other flavours and textures by getting the same dish each time.

wem · 16/10/2013 18:45

Time to link to this Grin

ringaringarosy · 16/10/2013 18:46

it could be worse,i have heard of people who order an omelette and chips!

Hulababy · 16/10/2013 18:46

I do try other things. Often the waiter will insist - only last week one brought be an extra dish of an alternative mild curry. But I didn't like it as much as the vegetable korma I had ordered. But I am willing to try every so often.

DontPanicMrMannering · 16/10/2013 18:47

Well I own an Indian restaurant and from some groupd there is the old "wuss can't handle a curry not a proper man" bollocks.

But personally I judge those who equate heat with good. Indian food should have layers, different flavoursand heats and bases.I judge those who like anglicised indian only and think "Masala" is an authentic dish not just an area of India Wink

MrTumblesKnickers · 16/10/2013 18:49

YABU. A korma is a dessert with meat in it.
