to think that people don't judge others on their choice of curry?

Was having a conversation with a friend today.

She reckons that people look down on people who choose mild curry as though that is the wimp's choice. (NB my words not hers)

And that liking progressively hotter curries is a rite of passage that you have to go through, almost like a qualification.

I mean, what if you just don't like spicy food?!?

NB I ask this as a curry wimp - I go for the korma every time.

Oh no what's those other things I prefer now to onion bhaji?

I can't think of the name but they're like chicken balls in batter?

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2013 21:26

Steak is chewy when it's over cooked

Rare = mushy

Medium rare = bit less mushy

Medium = melts in mouth and doesn't require much chewing at all

SPsTombRaidingWithCliff · 16/10/2013 21:26

Aren't they just battered chicken balls? Grin

I domt like Bhajis

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2013 21:27

Chicken Pakora!! That's it Grin

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/10/2013 21:28

No, it's chewy however it's cooked. And I don't like it mooing so I don't eat it.

I'll happily cook DH a steak though, and I'm good at it!

GoldenGytha · 16/10/2013 21:31

I like my steaks well done,

I don't care what other people eat, I eat what I like, and enjoy it, I'm not harming anyone, so what's wrong with that Confused

Steak Pie is my all time favourite meal, I have it every time my DDs and me for a pub lunch, I don't care if it's boring or all that other stuff SeaSickSal said, I love it!

fancyanother · 16/10/2013 21:31

I'm of Indian extraction, and my DH is white. He eats hotter curries than me and has done so for several years. My mum will always cook for him and take all the chilli out just in case he can't handle it. He then eats the 'hot' proper curry and she virtually grabs it off him saying 'No! thats too hot!' Then asking him every 10 minutes if the food was too hot. Meanwhile, I'm eating the chilli free stuff!

GoldenGytha · 16/10/2013 21:32

go for a pub lunch.

ColderThanAWitchsTitty · 16/10/2013 21:32

yanbu, I used to love spicy foods the spicier the better. After getting pregnant the first time I got a weird tongue thing and can't handle spice anymore! :(

Moln · 16/10/2013 21:34

it has to be good meat too, for it to be all melt. It all too often isn't top quality meat so generally is chewy

when steak's of the melty type it's amazing

ColderThanAWitchsTitty · 16/10/2013 21:34

this i think

MakeMineAKorma · 16/10/2013 21:35

Sorry been having me nails done - didn't intend to post and run

Re: steak and well done though, it's advised not to have it WD in a restaurant cos they palm off the not so fresh meat on the WD people.

Maybe there is a Korma equivalent at an Indian....

Handrags "and I'll have 47 bread rolls with that"
Hee hee. I'll venture a mild curry if I've gone somewhere that the food looks good as I know I'll be able to still appreciate the flavours. Vindaloo is an artificial construct IIRC.

< Wipes watery eyes >

Can you at least turn my wine into lager?

I'm going to need at least 8 pints of it

ClayDavis · 16/10/2013 21:51

Why did none of you tell me I'm supposed to judge my friends on their curry eating. We've been going to the Indian/ordering takeaway for years and I've never judged. They've all been laughing at me behind my back for not judging, haven't they?

NettoSuperstar · 16/10/2013 23:37

Absolutely ClayDavis, it's essential to judge.
After all my posting on this thread about making curry, and being up my own arse and all that, I will freely admit, I sometimes phone a ham omelette and chips from the chinese takeaway.
I like it.
I usually get some curry sauce on the side too.

Morloth · 17/10/2013 02:38

Oh God I like all curries from sweating eyeball level right down to curry 'flavoured' what does this mean?

MrsCakesPremonition · 17/10/2013 02:44

Many, many years ago when going out for a curry was still a relatively new and exotic experience for those of us who grew up in rural villages, a big group of us from uni went for a curry to celebrate someone's birthday.

The boys were all showing off about how hard they were, how hot the curry they were going to eat was, how soft the girls would be with their wimpy mild curries. One of the lads was especially vocal about the girls being the weaker sex.

He ordered a korma and found it too spicy - couldn't eat it. My, how I laughed.

cafecito · 17/10/2013 02:48

oh, I always judge curry choices. how could you not Shock

cafecito · 17/10/2013 02:49

Morloth you are ethereal, omnipresent in transcending all curry groups

When I was working we spent a lot of time visiting curry houses in East London. We went to one where you bought the curry by the pound (weight) and just chose meat or veg.
They did serve a side salad with it - but we found that they kept the salad in cardboard box by the toilet.

It shut down shortly afterwards.

DaleyBump · 17/10/2013 03:14

I love most curry. I actually can't think of any curry I don't like. I just get what I feel like, sometimes a korma, sometimes (don't know if this is just the Indian in my village that does this) south Indian garlic chilli lamb - extra extra hot. First time I ordered it, the guy behind the till said "even WE don't eat it that hot!" Halloween Grin

liquidstate · 17/10/2013 03:36

Yuck - 'Indian' curry = revolting stuff.

Love a Thai Red Curry though. And Chinese.

When we do a takeaway at home its easy as there is a Chinese next door to the Indian so DH can have his curry and I will have a Chinese.

And yes I do get judged for not liking Indian curry but I don't care Grin
