to think that people don't judge others on their choice of curry?

Was having a conversation with a friend today.

She reckons that people look down on people who choose mild curry as though that is the wimp's choice. (NB my words not hers)

And that liking progressively hotter curries is a rite of passage that you have to go through, almost like a qualification.

I mean, what if you just don't like spicy food?!?

NB I ask this as a curry wimp - I go for the korma every time.

I was thinking that LBE

Why should someone let the fact they don't like curry, stop them going out to a restaurant with friends?

It's all about the company surely.

IneedAsockamnesty · 16/10/2013 20:44

People still judge this sort of thing??? Seriously? I thought it died out in the late 80's.

Bah eat what you fancy if curry is a going out or takeaway thing then its not as if your choices are ever going to affect anybody else

MarmaladeBatkins · 16/10/2013 20:47

I could kill a curry now.

Not a mild one though, I'm not a wuss.

catgirl1976 · 16/10/2013 20:49

I judge a Korma eater.

DM does this.

I also judge people who eat the hottest curry going just to look "impressive"

Go for something with taste

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2013 20:51

But why would you judge a Korma eater? Confused

In fact why would you judge anyone for what food they enjoy/dislike?

I genuinely thought this thread was a wind up/laugh...especially considering the OP name changed just to tell us what her mate said.

But the fact some people really do judge is mind blowing?

slightlysoupstained · 16/10/2013 20:52

I'm going to have to hide this thread. Dinner tonight is spinach & ricotta lasagne, which sounded like a great idea earlier but all this curry talk is making me yearn for curry.

nkf · 16/10/2013 20:54

I want to know about steak eating. What MN prejudices come out there?

maddening · 16/10/2013 20:55

if I go to an Indian or Chinese restaurant it's mushroom omelettes all the way, with chips and either coke or a cup of tea. Judge me MoFo!

Iamsparklyknickers · 16/10/2013 20:59

Don't know what would happen on MN nfk, but on a couple of other forums I've seen pages of people getting their backsides handed to them for daring to order a steak anything over medium rare.

Ruins it apparently and cooks deliberately do it badly to teach people a 'lesson'.

Iamsparklyknickers · 16/10/2013 21:01

A cup of tea! maddening there was a line but you've just smashed through it and flicked the v's.

Rude is what that is Halloween Wink

SPsTombRaidingWithCliff · 16/10/2013 21:03

My dad judges me on my steak NFK

He likes it still Moo-ing and I like it well done

RedToothBrush · 16/10/2013 21:04

Theres kormas and theres kormas.

The same way that theres a great steak and chips and a bloody awful steak and chips.

If you can only judge a curry because its called a korma or a madras then you should have your taste buds cut out as you clearly aren't actually using them!

slightlysoupstained · 16/10/2013 21:05

Never understood the rare/well done steak thing. You don't get that nonsense with tofu - "extra crispy? How dare you, in my kitchen! It's soft for you or nothing, you big wuss!"

LynetteScavo · 16/10/2013 21:05

Actually, I really want a Korma now.

I judge people who don't like curry. And raisins. (Just eat the mince pie!)

SPsTombRaidingWithCliff · 16/10/2013 21:07

I really want a curry too. I domt eat a full one though

yeghoulsandlittledevils · 16/10/2013 21:08

Now I'm hungry. I know I shouldn't have read this thread!

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2013 21:08

Nor me SP

I'll go halves with you

SelectAUserName · 16/10/2013 21:12

I love a steak just on the well done side of medium and have never had one cooked better than by my DH. Probably because his priority is cooking something we both want to enjoy eating rather than having any cheffy sensibilities offended by the fact I don't just want to take a bite off the cow as it canters past the table.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/10/2013 21:12

Who the fuck cares what kind of curry people order.
I always have mild ones, yet another thing on MN to be judged on.

LadyBeagleEyes are you muscling in on scottishmummy's act? That was very nearly a curry haiku Grin

Personally, I only judge those who order tikka masala. Even though I'd like to try it myself and suspect I'd probably like it Blush That speaks volumes about me, I'm sure.

SPsTombRaidingWithCliff · 16/10/2013 21:16

I'll send it first class Grin

Portions are too big. I normally only have it if staying with a mate. She gets a masala and I get a madras. We have both on plate with rice, chips and a huge naan.

Think I will be staying at hers this weekend now Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/10/2013 21:20

Portions too big? SP I didn't have you down as a massive wuss.

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2013 21:21

< Swiftly beheads Jesus with a frisbeed poppadom >

Well it's not like you weren't warned!! Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 16/10/2013 21:21

But of course the portions are too big Shock
You've got to have leftovers for breakfast lunch next day Shock

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2013 21:23

I don't have rice or chips SP

Just a Keema naan and a couple of onion bhajis

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/10/2013 21:23

I don't like steak, it's chewy.

I'm also bored of being told its because I haven't had it cooked properly. I have. It's still chewy.
