And that Mel slaps her?

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 23/10/2013 17:42

I'm not on twitter so have no idea what's being said on there.

valiumredhead · 23/10/2013 17:47

Again, nothing to do with her being supposedly prettyConfused

Its like a stuck record on here-

I don't like Ruby's manner

That's only because she's pretty.

No, it's because she's an inconsistent, messy cook

You're jealous

No,I don't like her manner, nothing to do with looks

It's because she's young and pretty

No it really isn't

Yes it is, she's pretty and you're jealous

No, I'm really NOT.

Chippednailvarnish · 23/10/2013 17:53

What Valium said. Again.

OP posts:
squoosh · 23/10/2013 17:59

Another one who agrees with Valium. Some of the shrewish condemnation of anyone who didn't love Ruby is absolutely laughable.

grovel · 23/10/2013 18:00

According to my DH all three are attractive. And they can bake.

I hate them.

squoosh · 23/10/2013 18:01

'The sad truth I am guessing is it is those who can't bear the thought of other women being pretty, talented, authentic, up for a competition'

You do realise the other two finalists were female too don't you? They got some vociferous support. The nature of a televised competition is that urges you to pick a side.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 23/10/2013 18:07

CuChu

Yes. We were offered a narrative about each of them, based on editing (as is the case with ALL reality TV).

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 23/10/2013 18:10

squoosh

I find it "shrewish" to offer up character assassinations of people on a baking competition. Any of them, but particularly young women.

valiumredhead · 23/10/2013 18:12

Bickie-we are not allowed to comment but you can call anyone who doesn't admit to jealousy 'wine soaked and bitter?'

How does that work then?

TEErickOrTEEreat · 23/10/2013 18:14

Yes. What valium said.

And I also want to know why we can slag off PH and MB but not Ruby.

Because she's a civilian? Pish tosh. That Guardian piece proves she's no such thing.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 23/10/2013 18:21

Personally I would slag off anyone in the way you have TEE.

I'll leave you to it

valiumredhead · 23/10/2013 18:21

Even Sue commented on her manner last night, she said at one point when Ruby was being particularly negative 'you're really selling it to us' Grin

bickie · 23/10/2013 18:27

Valium - of course you are allowed to comment. And I accept your assurance that you are not jealous. But I have to say - in my experience - it is pretty unusual to live a happy and fulfilled life and at the same time be so negative about others. So I am assuming you are jealous. Or pissed and lonely. Happy for you if that's not the case ...

TEErickOrTEEreat · 23/10/2013 18:31

Well then you agree with me Jamie.

Grin

Bickie that's a cop out. I can be perfectly fine in myself, and I am, and think progress are wankers. And I do.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 23/10/2013 18:33

Oops bad autocorrect.

valiumredhead · 23/10/2013 18:39

Or possibly I just don't like Ruby which is a perfectly valid option.

Pissed? I'm tee total.

I'm not jealous,I can cook really well and enjoy cooking, I've worked in lots of restaurants and tea rooms. I was gorgeous at Ruby's age, I'm not now as I'm twice her age and twice her size but I'm perfectly happy,I have a lovely family and friends so not lonely either.

I just don't like Ruby's TV manner, she's like my 12 year old when things don't go his way and he gets stroppy and she's SO messy, mess in the kitchen makes me twitchy.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 23/10/2013 18:44

Or, again, what valium said.

This isn't preschool. We don't all have to like everyone and/or hide our feelings.

And yes, I am like this in real life.

MrsBucketxx · 23/10/2013 18:46

Yup she is a stroppy cow, and acts like a child.

She was poor from the start, she got into the final with her stroppyness and being pauls pet. Glad she didnt win.

bickie · 23/10/2013 18:47

Valium - Thank God - I was feeling awful that i had said that to you and then was cooking in the kitchen thinking - God what if she is really lonely and hits the bottle - what an awful thing to have said. So have run back in to get online and say sorry. Didn't want to get into a slagging match. I just really felt for the poor girl being so criticised - when she seemed to me to be perfectly lovely normal 21 year old with talent and some self doubt. Couldn't understand why grown women were being so nasty. But I'll leave it at that.

EmmaBemma · 23/10/2013 19:00

"She's very good at generating publicity about herself..."

Yeah, god forbid she state her own opinion about the vitriol she's attracted.

NoComet · 23/10/2013 19:02

And I do like her because, the kitchen does look like that after I've done a Birthday cake.

I think there is a massive grey area in modern celebratory culture as to what is a 'Celeb' and how rude can you be.

Ruby is clearly very bright (another reason why I like her) and her Guardian piece is very very good.

To a certain extent she must have known what she was getting into and she may well have her eye on some sort of media job.

However, that only makes her the girl on works experience, the student on teaching practice, it's not fair to lay into her like Miley Cyrus (sp) for example.

MC dressed like that and behaved like that totally knowingly, no one edited her performs to give a certain impression she knew the twitter storm it would provoke and is laughing all the way to the bank.

There are shades of 'celebrity' and not everyone who appears on TV should instantly gain the full treatment.

foragoodfriend · 23/10/2013 19:07

I only watched the first few episodes of this but have caught an awful lot of commentary about it and Ruby. All I can say is that her piece in The Guardian was very well-written and perceptive for a 21 year old. And she can cook. And she is beautiful. Sad that she has attracted such vitriol. I might have to watch it on I-player to see what all the fuss was about.

valiumredhead · 23/10/2013 19:09

Bickie-Grin

TEErickOrTEEreat · 23/10/2013 19:12
