wish i could post pictures on here, deepfriedsage , i have PHs book and found a picture that immediately made me think if your "bagel fingering" post Blush

Did anybody read the interviews in the Telegraph with all three contestants yesterday? Kimberley's ambition is to open a chain of charitable baking shops where youngsters can bake and have their Birthday parties because she sees so many socially and economically deprived children who have never had a birthday party. She comes across in the interview as absolutely decent with no self serving reasons for winning other than wanting to do good like Brendan.

Oh and by the way, Kimberley was studying for final exams and completing three essays for her psychotherapy quals during the GBBO final weeks. Did we hear about it? Did she offer it as an excuse for her performance/demeanour? No she did not. She just got on with it.

I know who has won sadly which spoils it a little.

And Paul Hollywood with his nicotine stained and fag ash scented fingers poking into the product? Yuck, double yuck.

chocoluvva · 20/10/2013 12:41

Re, the taste issue: I wouldn't expect a 'showstopper' fancy centrepiece cake to taste of any particular flavour other than the usual taste of cake IYSWIM. There's not much flavour in a Victoria sandwich or fatless sponge used in a swiss-roll or as the basis of a cream cake except for the filling and topping usually is there? That's partly what the filling and topping is for surely.

ubik · 20/10/2013 13:19

Kimberley comes across as the sort of person who would be great at anything she puts her mind to.

Chippednailvarnish · 20/10/2013 13:43

Without whining about it...

flippinada · 20/10/2013 14:22

I really hope Kimberley realises her ambition - I think she will, even if she doesn't win.

flippinada · 20/10/2013 15:07

The image of PH poking stinky fag ash fingers poking into somebody's baking, that they've put a huge effort into preparing, really annoys me.

ppeatfruit · 20/10/2013 16:15

I'm not so sure choco What about a proper chocolate cake it should have a lovely taste of your name Grin?

I've wanted Kimberley to win for a long time now (there's another GBBO thread that's been going since the start.) She really deserved star baker.

Chippednailvarnish · 21/10/2013 19:39

Raymond Blanc No! Say its not true...

Oh no i hope kimberely wins, she deserves too

Cremolafoam · 22/10/2013 13:58

Frances's fag butt cake

Fakebook · 22/10/2013 14:00

Frances to win!!

squoosh · 22/10/2013 14:14

What are the odds that they'll right last year's wrong and award this year's title to lovely Brendan?

FunLovinBunster · 22/10/2013 15:54

Would I be correct in thinking that Ruby's response to Raymond Blanc confirms she is the winner? Boo if this is true.
I can't be doing with women who play the cutesie whiny little girl act. Her presentation is hit and miss. She has confessed she knows little about cooking. She doesn't deserve to win on this basis.
I am not a fan of Kimberley. At first I hoped she would win, but then I started noticing the mean girl faces she pulled in the background while the judges were praising someone else.
Frances, I think, cares more about what it looks like rather than technique and taste. I do not think she should win on that basis.
Out of the three, K has the most baking and cooking knowledge. Her presentation is good too.
Much as Beca annoyed me, I prefer her rather than the 3 others. Good knowledge and seemed enthusiastic.
Disappointed.

Chippednailvarnish · 22/10/2013 16:12

Feel like purposely not watching tonight, as if she has won I'll be irrationally pissed off.

OP posts:
bleedingheart · 22/10/2013 16:49

I like Kimberly. I don't think she's smug, I think she's self-contained. She is trying her hardest and is pleased when she pulls it off.

Frances seems lovely too.

Paul and Mary both seemed to take against Becca from the beginning. Paul especially, he rarely had a nice word to say for anything she did.

Ruby seems very young, even for 20. I think she seems like a nice girl but she needs to stop saying 'I don't know what I'm doing yet/oh I haven't decided/it's all going wrong/Mel will you slap me' because it is very grating for the viewer to watch a talented person who volunteered to be on a baking programme act like they are winging it and wandered in to the tent by accident.

flippinada · 22/10/2013 17:01

squoosh they absolutely should give it to Brendan.

I do wish Ruby would stop moaning. She wouldn't have got this far if she wasn't any good. It's really irritating.

Not sure if I'll watch tonight.

Burmobasher · 22/10/2013 17:28

Kimberly to win! Well, anybody but Ruby tbh. Can't stand her moany face and her "I'm winging it this week because of my dissertation blah blah I'm so rubbish boo hoo hoo" she really gives me the rage and has ruined GBBO for me a bit this year.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 22/10/2013 17:41

I think Kimberly should win. She's the best all-round baker

The facial expressions/lack of facial expressions are neither here nor there.

ok i agree, the cigarette cake looks far from appetising, but i still love her Grin

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 22/10/2013 20:11

I would be very happy to see Ruby or Kimberley win. Think they're both great.

Chippednailvarnish · 22/10/2013 20:56

Loved Frances's wedding cake , seems a fair choice to win.

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 22/10/2013 21:01

I think in the final that looks as well as taste will count. Ruby can't do decoration, Frances isn't great at flavours, so it will look like Kimberly will win because she's good at both, then Frances will pull it out of the bag at the last minute with something unexpectedly delicious, like Ryan's Key Lime Pie and win.

Hah, I called it last Wednesday!!

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 22/10/2013 21:18

Oh well, her design-concept stuff isn't really my thing, but her wedding cake was far and away the best looking. Veg pies and pretzels are a bit dull for a final, no?
