And that Mel slaps her?

OP posts:

A manipulative, slacking shithead...in the field of...baking?

I guess I don't take my baking seriously enough.

EmmaBemma · 18/10/2013 22:41

Woah! That's an almost... slightly alarming assessment of someone you've never met, Marina - "manipulative, slacking shithead". Presumably we've seen the same amount of footage of the same person; yet she just strikes me someone with an amiably low-key, Eeyorish sort of demeanour. I don't see any pretension there at all. It's a baking competition - why is it OK to be so personal about someone that just wants to show off about their croissants?

EmmaBemma · 18/10/2013 22:44

and for the record, what Ruby is doing is not "fishing for compliments". It's being the first to point out a flaw, so that someone else doesn't beat you to it. It's a peverse form of self-defense, and it's something I didn't grow out of doing until I was a little older than she is.

Rhubarbgarden · 18/10/2013 22:44

Blimey, do you have a personal grudge against her or something?

ubik · 18/10/2013 22:50

it's only a cookery competition Confused

Blimey. This is ridiculous

Think it, for God's sake, but to post such character assassination, about a Baking Competition online. Weird

Marina - does she remind you of someone, which is triggering unresolved strong emotion?

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 19/10/2013 08:36

I can't remember such a bitchy thread.

Howsuper · 19/10/2013 08:38

It's not even about it being 'just a baking competition', some comments about a young woman whose crime is to be a bit sulky looking are fucking horrible.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 19/10/2013 08:39

Howsuper

Yes. Really horrible.

bakingaddict · 19/10/2013 08:52

I think threads like these are just nasty

I watch GBBO because I like to see the creativity of other people when baking and while I might have a preferred contestant to win I will choose the person who is most capable.

Neither Frances or Ruby are the finished article, Ruby makes things that look a mess but taste great and Frances makes things that look good but don't taste right. Even though Kimberly isn't popular she should win because she is the only one who is a complete package but lets leave nasty comments about the contestants out of it and judge them on their baking merits

TEErickOrTEEreat · 19/10/2013 09:01

I would expect some major changes next year as it moves to BBC1.

And I actually think Mel and Sue are too nice. It's reality TV, people should be mean. That's what makes it fun.

It's why I like Paul and Mary. They aren't all that nice a lot of the time.

If you can't take the heat? Stay out of the tent.*

Howsuper · 19/10/2013 09:51

Agree Jamie.

These comments are beyond the fucking pale - and let's not forget this is the written word on a public forum.

She is extremely likely to see this thread.

She's not a two dimensional telly construct, she's a 20 year old student (with a huge talent) who's making her way in the world and being told by a swathe of supposedly and intelligent adult women on a parenting site that she's a manipulative shithead.

Jesus Christ.

Howsuper · 19/10/2013 10:04

And btw I do think some people in the public eye are 'fair game' or at least have very little justification for complaining about criticism - say Katie Hopkins who makes her money out of professional trolling or a celeb who sells pap pictures of themselves and does anything and everything to stay in the public eye. That's different from a young person who is not courting publicity but is entering a talent competition, albeit on telly.

flippinada · 19/10/2013 11:05

Agree that the personal comments abour Ruby are ott nasty. There's no need.

badtime · 19/10/2013 12:10

'
It's not specifically about her looks. It's just that her looks have allowed her to so far get away with being this much of a manipulative, slacking shithead.'

Are you sure?
Might it not be that her looks predispose you to think negatively about her?
Are you one of those people who sees any good-looking woman and immediately 'realises' (i.e. imagines) that she is nasty/stupid/'slutty'/whatever? Because it certainly does read that way.

Itstartshere · 19/10/2013 13:08

I don't think people are being nasty about Ruby because of her looks. Lots of people are saying they love Kimberley and she's stunning. (and my blood also boiled when PH said he was more likely to fancy her as she was prettier. Wtf!?)

She's just bloody annoying. Having said that I actually think she's genuinely completely and utterly eaten up over if she's any good. I think the self-doubt she's experiencing is real and very crippling. She just stresses a lot. Hopefully she'll come out of this competition with more positivity and confidence in herself.

flippinada · 19/10/2013 13:29

I think you're right itstarts.

StayAwayFromTheEdge · 19/10/2013 13:34

Just caught up with this weeks Bake Off and I am lost for words that Ruby is still there.

I was quite fond of Becca. Ruby and Frances are both intensely irritating - Kimberly to win!

AllBoxedUp · 19/10/2013 14:34

I just watched the GBBO last night and thought it was obvious Becca would go at the end. Her canapes weren't as ambitious as Ruby's and her opera cake didn't look great either and apparently tasted not very nice - fake banana isn't a great flavour for a semi final. The technical challenge always seems a bit more of an extra to judge on and she was 2nd last.
Ruby's baking seems more inventive and she pushes things technically which she gets credit for. She got star baker when she made the wonky allotment because she had made praline and tempered chocolate as well as a great tasting cake. Some of you are blinkered meanies! I thought Becca was greet though and think Kimberley is the best baker left.

ppeatfruit · 19/10/2013 14:56

AllBoxedUp I soooo agree. We don't taste the entries; the unkindness towards Ruby is unjust and mean; she's a very pretty girl who wears a jacket because it's cold DUH!!!! She'd get criticism if she wore low sweaters for sure!!

I changed my mind about Becca because she was unpleasant to Frances. There's a problem in the finals if Ruby wins again on taste not presentation (i feel sorry for the judges).

mortuusUrsus · 19/10/2013 15:21

Can't believe Frances is so popular on here! Thought she'd be a MN nemesis with a website like this

TheBuskersDog · 19/10/2013 15:25

Ruby is not a girl she is a 21 year old woman, just like James last year was not a boy, he was a 21 year old man. He also managed to study medicine without moaning about how hard it was to do both and without behaving like an over-grown toddler.

foslady · 19/10/2013 15:27

That IS bad Mort - didn't get any further than the 'about me'....

TEErickOrTEEreat · 19/10/2013 15:32

Exactly Busker.

It has nothing to do with her age or her looks or anything but her constant moaning.

I didn't like Howard because he was a bit of a drip as well. I was so glad when he was removed.
