And that Mel slaps her?

Ruby is like a petulant child and this week was even more miserable, it's boring now. I'm sad becca has gone so rooting for Francis now Smile Kimberley is so smug, have you seen her face when they dare criticise her baking?! And Ruby's bakes are a mess but nobody notices Hmm Ok, Rant over......bring on the final Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 18/10/2013 14:58

I'm counting down (sad)!

People's dislike for Ruby has nothing to do with her looks.
It's the way she comes across.

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 15:15

I think it's all to do with her looks.

coffeeinbed · 18/10/2013 15:17

What makes you think that?

squoosh · 18/10/2013 15:17

It's really not to do with her looks! It's to do with her disingenuity and her unfortunately pitched voice.

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 15:25

Because of the level of spite and venom pitched on this forum towards a 21 year old girl. Also because of many posters insisting that she isn't even pretty

She is incredibly self-deprecating. That will rub some people up the wrong way, others will quite like it. I can relate to it.

I also happen to like her voice.

But I can remember lots of older people, and older men, being very self-deprecating on the show in the past and no one was sharpening knives for them.

And then people go on to attack Kimberly for being confident. It seems pretty women just can win.

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 15:26

Can't win, even.

valiumredhead · 18/10/2013 15:28

It's nothing to do with her looks but thanks for putting us straight.

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 15:29

Oh sorry, did I stumble upon the completely objective corner of the internet?

squoosh · 18/10/2013 15:30

'she is incredibly self-deprecating'

Really?

Well that's it you see, lots of people don't see it as being self-deprecating, they see it as moaning.

PixieBumbles · 18/10/2013 15:32

Kimberley to win. She's consistently good and always seems to know exactly what she's doing.

Ruby clearly has a lot of natural talent (well, going by what the judges have to say about her flavours), but I don't think she deserves to win as it seems like she's just winging it a lot of the time. With more experience though I think she'll be an incredible baker. Yes her self deprecation can be pretty irritating, but I know I was just the same at her age.

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 15:35

I suppose I've got a soft spot for moaners. The whole show is a bit too jolly for me sometimes tbh, so maybe that's why I quite like Ruby.

I do think it's noticeable that two very beautiful women are the ones who seem to be getting the most stick. And both for being over-confident, or not confident enough.

squoosh · 18/10/2013 15:38

On the show though it's the plainer of the three who is getting all the withering comments.

mignonette · 18/10/2013 15:41

Mel and Sue for a webchat please so we can weedle the dirty low down out of them

Pachacuti · 18/10/2013 16:03

If they had Mel and Sue on it would be like the Chris Corcoran and Henry Winkler webchats: hundreds of Mumsnetters queuing up to ask "questions" that amount to "OMG you are so wonderful, squee! Can I have your babies? Or would you like my existing babies?" Grin

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 16:03

"On the show though it's the plainer of the three who is getting all the withering comments"

I think that's true of the final three, but Ruby and Kimberley have been getting pelters online for ages. I don't think it's because they're both crap bakers, but something to do with confidence/attitude and how it relates to looks.

awaynboilyurheid · 18/10/2013 16:18

Headsdown totally agree , as much as I love love love GBBO I think it can be MB who is harshest at times I don't get all the lovely MB stuff I think she is like a scary cookery teacher I had at school put the fear of God in you , Im sure thats why I cant bake now Really like Ruby and cannot work out why so much vile on here for someone who is young talented and just wanted to bake ok she went in for a baking competition but its not like she's on X factor like Francis too , think she might just steal it .

flippinada · 18/10/2013 16:47

You know I think they may have been setting Ruby up as a character like Catherine - she would produce something wonderful and then say "oh no how awful , it looks dreadful" in a fishing for compliments type way.

I don't think it's a put on thing with Ruby though, at least I get the sense that it isn't. It's more like...I want to give her a bit of a shake and say get a grip you daft lass!

flippinada · 18/10/2013 16:48

Format fail there.

Would love to see a webchat with Mel and SueSmile .

mignonette · 18/10/2013 16:50

I really liked Catherine. She was very likeable.

flippinada · 18/10/2013 16:53

She wasn't awful and she was an excellent bakery...I found her really irritating though.

However that's from the way she was presented on telly, I'm sure she's perfectly nice IRL.

flippinada · 18/10/2013 16:54

I mean an excellent baker!

Chippednailvarnish · 18/10/2013 17:38

I'd like a series of just the outtakes.
