Trills "What went on in that tent"?
It's a cookery competition, not the Vietnam war.

I just HAVE to say now:

"Yew weren't there, man, YEW WEREN'T THERE! Waaahhhaahaahaa"

That's just it, Pachacuti! - Frances has taken the criticism on board, and grown. She's better at the flavours but still quirky in the presentation. She's learnt to budget her time to be able to do both well.

I just don't see that kind of growth with Ruby. I just don't.

foslady · 17/10/2013 22:30

What I want to know is who is the unsung hero that bakes all the examples of what a perfect version should look like???

KCumberSandwich · 18/10/2013 09:06

foslady do you mean the ones that paul and mary eat at the wee table? they sort of make out that mary makes them.but i doubt it.

Trills · 18/10/2013 09:08

I would like to pretend that Mary or Paul spend a morning baking the "perfect" ones. I know it's not true but I can pretend.

KCumberSandwich · 18/10/2013 09:37

i want to be mary berry when i grow up so i like to believe it too, Trills

mortuusUrsus · 18/10/2013 10:53

Some poor bastard runner probably Grin

Pachacuti · 18/10/2013 11:30

I have discovered that Frances is a friend of a friend of a friend, which makes me effectively a GBBO insider, really... (in my dreams Grin)

noblegiraffe · 18/10/2013 11:35

That brain cake thing looked disgusting, whoever made it!

mignonette · 18/10/2013 11:49

I am starting to dislike La Berry. I think she has been a bit mean and partial this series. In fact this series has not a good one to watch IMO lacking the gentle charm and lack of agenda of previous series. I realise that to some extent 'storyboarding' has happened in all the series but it is overt in this one and I do not like it.

Talk about Killing Your Sons.

squoosh · 18/10/2013 11:50

Mary Berry is equally as annoying as Hollywood. Success has turned both their heads.

mortuusUrsus · 18/10/2013 12:26

Killing Your Scones Wink

eh? eh?

mignonette · 18/10/2013 12:28

Grin at Mortuus

ie Killing what you are fond of, killing what is lovely and worked for you (the original format)- Kill Your Sons.

coffeeinbed · 18/10/2013 12:52

PH can't possibly stay next year.
he's so annoying he makes thrush seem pleasant.

valiumredhead · 18/10/2013 13:13

I saw Mary and Paul live last year, they were filthy and SO funny, what we see is heavily editedGrin

flippinada · 18/10/2013 13:19

I haven't been enjoying this year's bake off as much as last year.

Agree with others that Brendan woz ROBBED (although iirc there were plenty of detractors - think people either loved or loathed him).

Also not seeing smug Kimberly who looks cross when other people do well. She's good and she knows it - so what? I think that's why people don't like (as with B last year).

Find Ruby irritating and wet blankety but I suspect she may have been edited to look like a complete misery guts. Don't think PH fancies her either - he couldn't possibly fancy anyone as much as he fancies himself!

Fakebook · 18/10/2013 13:24

I never thought I'd find myself thinking this at the start of the series, but I want Frances to win now. Can't stand Kimberley anymore...she's become more and more smug as the series has developed, and Ruby with her "woe is me" every bloody week is annoying. Poor Frances is always being told off.

coffeeinbed · 18/10/2013 13:27

See!
I was for Frances since the very beginning!
Although I don't mind Kimberly as well.

squoosh · 18/10/2013 13:33

I really disliked Frances to begin with, and now I'm rootin' for her!

C'mon Frances, don't let the cock wombles grind you down!

PixieBumbles · 18/10/2013 13:56

Back on the Sewing Bee, a reason to watch

Vintagecakeisstillnice · 18/10/2013 14:12

I'm another one really not enjoying it as much this year. I've said it before when it started they were looking for the best home baker, now they seem to be looking for semi-professionals from the start.

I do think though that Mel and Sue appear to have been very pissed off the last 2 episodes.
I wonder if they know something. . .

I'm hoping Kimberly will win, I think she been consistent, she's been robbed of star bake a few times now, though I am usually in awe of Frances ideas and skill in her presentation.

I hope next year the format goes back to what it was in the begining.

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 18/10/2013 14:26

I love Ruby. I can't believe how many horrible comments there have been about her, basically because she is beautiful. I like her self-depricating shtick.

I like Kimberley too.

I don't like MB.

flippinada · 18/10/2013 14:27

I think Mel and Sue really make the programme. They are just so lovely and though some of it might be a cleverly edited construct it seems genuine rather than faked for the camera.

squoosh · 18/10/2013 14:28

I love Mel & Sue too, love that they aren't uber glam.

flippinada · 18/10/2013 14:38

When I was young I might've said I'd like to go down the pub with them for a pint. Nowadays I'd settle for a nice cup of coffee and a cake Grin.
