Feel a bit sorry for ruby, I think PH makes her feel uncomfortable, and she's not sure how to deal with it, hence the reason for non eye contact last night

Chippednailvarnish you actually can injure yourself sewing. when i was a fashion student one of my classmates ran her index finger through the industrial sewing machine- needle straight through her nail. she ended up having to snap the needle out of the machine and went to a&e with half a needle still in there. when they pylled it out she could feel the thread going through.

I just hate the way he's clearly one part man, three parts carb and six parts ego these days. He thinks he's George Clooney or something............yep, maybe if George Clooney was looking at his reflection in one of those fairground mirrors.

Aww I think Ruby's being so unfairly slagged.

She's young, she's lacking in confidence yet cocky at the same time (God knows that described me at 20 - it's a lethal combo!) and can't help being beautiful with a bitchy resting face (unfortunately I had the latter but not the former).

She's a talented young woman with passion and determination.

Someone mentioned up thread that Ruby's voice is like Katie Price - YES - I said exactly the same to my DH last night. It is that monotonous drone that is unlistenable to, after a while.

I like Francis, but then I can't taste her cakes, but I do enjoy her unconscious quirkiness, I could imagine having her as a friend.

I am another who thought Brendan was robbed last year. His bakes were not 1970s - that was the same lazy insult as the 'style over substance' one they now lob at Francis. He was so much better, but they didn't want him to win, so one slightly 70s looking cake became the stick to beat him with for the rest of the show. I can see the same story arc with Francis and young Ruby will win.

Just popping in to say that we've put up a feature today of Mumsnetter recipes corresponding to those which featured in the current series if you're looking for inspiration.

I think some of Frances' early bakes were style over substance, but after the criticism from Paul and Mary she reined it in and now they are just nicely quirky -- the vegetable canapes from this week, for example. Week 1 Frances would have added the rabbits etc. that Mary was gently ribbing her about; week whatever-we-are-now Frances knows that she can just present them nicely and let her flavours and her baking speak for themselves.

Frances looks positively filthy on that RT cover, the way she's posing with the whisk. I think she'd fit in very well on MN .
