to think DH should be able to control the volume of his incessant earth-shattering sneezes?

They don't ALL have to be THAT loud, do they? He says they are involuntary spasms and he can't help it but I am able to sneeze less loudly for the sake of others' eardrums and hearts. AIBU?

I fear sneezing - must must do more pelvic floor exercises

luxemburgerli · 01/10/2013 17:32

I assure you, you don't know the meaning of loud sneezing/nose blowing until you have lived with a bunch of Germans.

I am actually quite impressed. If someone asked me to make as much noise as possible, I wouldn't get even 1/4 of the volume they manage with no effort.

It's like a symphony on the train in the winter time.

shewhowines · 01/10/2013 17:56

I am a very loud sneezer but I don't think I do it for attention. It is involuntary.

Tabby1963 · 01/10/2013 18:05

Drives me fucking mad, it does, when DH sneezes. Gives the cats a heart attack too. Is it a man thing? My sneezes are the complete opposite, virtually silent (goes off to polish halo).

LabMonkey · 01/10/2013 18:06

I am a loud sneezer and I promise I have done everything I can think of to stop it. It's just the way I am and having people comment on it is hideously embarrassing. I am certainly not attention seeking.

luxemburgerli · 01/10/2013 18:34

I'm somewhere in the middle of loud and quiet. Quiet sneezers bug me too - sneeze like you mean it or don't bother Grin

Boosterseat · 01/10/2013 18:59

It's the anticipation of a sneeze that I like, the ones just on the edge that you need to look at a light at to get out!

Well satisfying.

Did I mention I like sneezing Grin

Xollob · 01/10/2013 19:13

Loving all this sneeze-rage.

It's the visual sneezes I hate too - when they are backlit and you can see tiny particles winging their way around the room. DH once had a sinus infection - it was like a skunk had been in the room when he sneezed.

ByTheSea · 01/10/2013 19:34

Glad to see kindred souls. Grin

I can't explain how not to cause tremors with a sneeze for those who can't control the volume. I think if you can modulate speaking or laughing volume, you can modulate sneezing volume? Confused

Tabby1963 · 01/10/2013 19:53

ByTheSea have emailed this link to DH (sitting in chair on laptop opposite me).

Xollob · 01/10/2013 20:00

A lot of DHs will be mailed that link tonight!

bearleftmonkeyright · 01/10/2013 20:07

AAAAAAAAAAACHOOOOOO!!!!!fuck................................ Blush. That's basically what its like to live with loud sneezing syndrome, it just happens really fast

Tapirbackrider · 01/10/2013 20:09

Dh does this, but does manage to control it when he drives, as he has found (to his misery) that a diva-sneeze in the car results in his headbutting the steering wheel!

PlumpkinPie · 01/10/2013 20:10

I'm a loud sneezer!!! Blush It's SO satisfying!

MeeWhoo · 01/10/2013 20:13

YABU, I am a loud sneezer, I once sneezed in the office and someone who was on the phone to my colleague asked "what on earth was that?"

There is nothing I can do about it other than sneeze into a towel or someting to muffle the noise, if I try to be quieter, it only delays the big loud sneeze from coming out right after, although I don't tend to sneeze in "lots", generally just one or two at the most at a time. And I also sneeze every time I walk from indoors into direct sunlight...

I can see how it must be annoying for those around me, but I really cannot help it!

elportodelgato · 01/10/2013 20:14

Oh I am so glad I found this thread! My DH is the KING of the glory sneeze, big build up, insanely loud theatrical sneeze and THEN a kind of 'recovery' noise afterwards. Such a drama queen Grin

Liara · 01/10/2013 20:18

Mine are really loud, everyone always seems very startled by them (I'm a pretty tiny person). Dh, fortunately, thinks they are hilarious.

I could not even begin to control the volume. I could, I guess, as the article says stick an enormous cloth hanky in front to try to muffle the sound, but the sneezes would be just as loud, only slightly disguised.
