They don't ALL have to be THAT loud, do they? He says they are involuntary spasms and he can't help it but I am able to sneeze less loudly for the sake of others' eardrums and hearts. AIBU?

Dh knows if i sit down quickly while waving my hands aggressively I'm about to sneeze or cough and my pelvic floor just can't take it. It must be like chewing gum now.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 30/09/2013 22:49

I love sneezing though.

My DH used to jump when we was first dating. In fact he almost crashed his car once ( I now tap him on the leg when I am about to sneeze and we are in the car)

What used to annoy me is it took me 3 hours one night to get DS to sleep and as soon as I did it sneezed and it took another 2 hours.

RedlipsAndSlippers · 30/09/2013 22:52

DP screams when he sneezes, and it makes me want to kill him Angry so YADNBU! I know he can sneeze quietly, I've seen him, he just seems to want to make the most noise possible.
It's actually making me feel a bit grumpy at him now, and he hasn't sneezed at all today.

Mondaybaby · 30/09/2013 22:58

Brilliant thread! I'm giggling away.

edam · 30/09/2013 23:01

I'm glad to hear there are plenty of other sufferers of theatrically-loud sneezing partners.

DH is so loud it makes my ears ring. Terrifies small children, cats, neighbours, anyone planning a firework display who is suddenly develops a lively fear that they just won't be able to compete... It's almost as if he's shouting out a sneeze.

And then he expects sympathy! And acts all hurt as if he couldn't help it. SUCH a drama queen.

He claims it's because he had surgery to stop snoring (all his 'throat furniture' trimmed, as the surgeon tactfully described it). But I doubt it. I think he's just a great big show-off who wants to trade on 'look what I did for you, I had an operation'... Yeah, right, and I gave birth so we know who wins that contest!

ThePuffyShirt · 30/09/2013 23:02

Hilarious thread. Many a row here over dh sneezing.

liquidstate · 30/09/2013 23:03

Another ninja sneezer here Grin. DH sneezed in the car earlier and I nearly crashed it as had one hand over my ear nearest him whilst going around a bend. Makes my head rattle each time.

Once he sneezed in a vairy naice spa pool and a concerned staff member asked me if he 'was alright'.

ByTheSea · 30/09/2013 23:04

Have read some of the thread to DH. He (in a grumpy sarcastic manflu way) is really pleased to be the source of so much amusement.

YANBU both dad and DH do this, it drives me mad!

They on the other hand find my sneezes hysterically funny, apparently I sneeze like a kitten Hmm

DesperadoSleepyTime · 30/09/2013 23:12

Excellent thread :o

squoosh · 30/09/2013 23:16

Is it because sneezing is the only opportunity that most men get to display their true inner divadom? Once or twice a week they get three seconds to belt out a Kiri Te Kanawa style sneeze before getting back to being manly.

It's the fault of societal constructs that men are prone to such fancy sneezing! (or possibly not)

SusuwatariToes · 30/09/2013 23:26

This thread has made me chuckle.

DH doesn't sneeze particularly loudly but never sneezes just once. They always come in a chain of 4 or 5. The fewest at a time is 2. Anyone else have that?

Flibbertyjibbet · 30/09/2013 23:27

Oh yes forgot to mention. If I try to contain a sneeze, I wee.
So, dear ninja sneezers. If I were in your car would you rather I did a big sneeze, or left yiur car upholstery in need of valeting???

WahIzzit · 30/09/2013 23:28

I think i'd have to throw you a tena lady!

ByTheSea · 30/09/2013 23:28

Yes! It is never fewer than 3 or 4 at a time. Each one as immensely thunderous as the one before.

After my father has had a few refreshments he can sneeze for up to 40 sneezes in a row, no exaggeration. I'm not sure if it's an age thing or an allergy to the histamines in red wine/beer.

You lot are horrible. I sneeze loudly - cant help it at all. The look from ex used to be venomous. Like you want to sneeze loudly. Mine is often brought on by the cheap and nasty air fresheners that shops use in the air con. So I can have a sneezing fit in seconds of walking in to a shop. Very uncomfortable.

DidyouseeEthel · 30/09/2013 23:48

Yanbu. My boss recently had a loud sneezing fit that lasted about half an hour, with a very loud sneeze every couple of minutes until I screeched "Blow your nose!" like a random car alarm. There followed an embarrassed silence, followed by me whispering "I'm sorry...sorry" while he rummaged around in his drawers for a tissue.

DidyouseeEthel · 30/09/2013 23:49

His desk drawers (just to clarify).

Yes, shouting as they do it is so annoying. My Dad used to do it,DH does it and 2 consecutive next door neighbours too (thin walls).

Remonstrating is pointless -esp with the neighbours!-as it's 'only a sneeze'; 'how can I stop sneezing?... blah blah

No kidding, he's just done 2 even as I write.
No doubt it'll be flu Hmm

peppersaunt · 01/10/2013 00:15

So glad I'm not the only one whose DH sneezes so loudly people turn and gape...

Bogeyface · 01/10/2013 00:54

This reaaally winds me up. I am so glad I am not the only one, and it seems that we were all suffering in "silence" (hah!) until this thread!

H does it, as does my mother (so not a bloke thing). I will let my sneezes be as loud as they like if I am alone, but in company I can and do rein it in! It isnt hard to muffle them, it is just attention seeking to make such a racket.

He will no longer sneeze around me, which I find hilarious! It happened after I lost it with a "FFS!!!! Do you have to do that?! It drives me up the fucking WALL!" "I cant help it!" "Really, cos the rest of the fucking world seems to manage to" I know when he is going to sneeze now as he suddenly disappears to the garden or bog!

I count that as a win. Can't say it to my mother though, she is a hypochondriac at the best of times so she would probably convince herself that stifling her sneezes will give her lung cancer or something Hmm

Morloth · 01/10/2013 00:57

I think it is a 'dad' thing.

Like those weird deep coughs they do and that eargh sound when they bend over/sit down.

Only started when we had DS1.
