to be annoyed by the anti-intellectualism of Peppa Pig?

There is frequent and open mockery of anyone who says anything vaguely intelligent. eg Edmund Elephant is a show off clever clogs if he tries to explain gravity. Daddy Pig's job is also seen as unbelievably dull because it involves writing numbers on a board. There are more examples but I am too pregnant to remember them.

DS is ill today and I have watched about a million episodes of PP so I speak with some authority but may also just be reacting to the enforced wall-to-wall Pig. IABU?

I personally prefer Ben and holly I'm especially fond of nanny plum Smile

MortifiedAdams · 20/09/2013 18:39

And poor Danny Dog whose dad is always on the cusp.of running off to sea again Sad

magentastardust · 20/09/2013 18:41

Does anyone else thing everyone is a bit mean to poor old Pedro Pony?

TheRunawayTrain · 20/09/2013 18:51

I get annoyed at Susie Sheep because it gives us Susie's a bad name. Sad

Wearytiger · 20/09/2013 18:51

Daddy pig is an engineer, that's why he likes maths and concrete.

Pedro pony is clearly destined to grow up to be a rock star. He is a true iconoclast!

cashmiriana · 20/09/2013 18:53

Blimey, PP has moved on since I was last forced to watch it in about 2007. Clearly the Rabbit family is much more complex now!

FrancesFarmer · 20/09/2013 18:59

Yes, yanbu. I have a book where Peppa and family visit a forest and all Peppa does is whine about how boring it is. What a poor attitude! I always reword the text when I'm reading it as I don't wish my children to have such a poor attitude to nature. And that's just one example - there are plenty more. I also don't like the way the father is mocked constantly.

StiffyByng · 20/09/2013 18:59

It's Cousin Chloe I loathe most. She is a dreadful prig.

JerseySpud · 20/09/2013 19:03

Ben and Hollys Little Kingdom is more up my street. I love that

My hubby only watches Peppa Pig because Brian Blessed is the voice of Grampy Rabbit

Yonionekanobe · 20/09/2013 19:07

I also prefer Ben & Holly, but think some of the best laugh out loud lines in PP relate to Edmund Elephant being a 'clever cloggs'!

Tweasels · 20/09/2013 19:12

I notice the Mayor in Ben and Holly is clearly based on everyone's favourite evil buffoon Boris Johnson.

I often laugh out loud at Peppa Pig, Pedro is my fave.

StarvingBookworm · 20/09/2013 19:16

HootShoot school roof repairs are always paid for by fundraising - Daddy Pig's Fun Run, Jumble Sale, The Children's Fete.

I may love Peppa Pig almost as much as my children do

HootShoot · 20/09/2013 19:24

Sorry I didn't explain my theory well, maybe Miss Rabbit is the big sponsor who donates most of the money?

On that note though, does anyone else think Matt Allwright should be knocking on Mr Bull's door? His workmanship seems pretty shoddy and I imagine the multiple repairs to the school roof has paid for his retirement.

HootShoot · 20/09/2013 19:25

When he retires that is!

SmallTorch · 20/09/2013 19:28

I used to like how Miss Rabbit was a hard working single mum.
Then they made mummy rabbit. I was disappointed. :(

And mummy dog used to be a single mum too, then they invented her husband off at sea.

I blame the Tories.

MortifiedAdams · 20/09/2013 19:35

I think Pedro Ponys mum.is a LP. Mind, he is always late fot school.

DrCoconut · 20/09/2013 19:55

I'm just regaining sanity after back to back PP. agreed on mocking Edmund for being clever and daddy pig gets a tough time too. DH wants a daddy pig t shirt. Where's the best place to get one?

mrspremise · 20/09/2013 20:09

Now my DH needs one too, preferably saying "Daddy's favourite room is the museum café"... Grin

ryangoslinglovesmedamnit · 20/09/2013 20:14

mummy pig is emotionally abusive if you ask me..

I mean did you see that episode were the queen announces there will be an award for the hardest working person ..

mummy pig turns to daddy pig and says 'well that won't be you daddy pig!'

katese11 · 20/09/2013 20:15

I was confused about the rabbits for a long time. And whose parents are granny and grandpa pig?!

utopian99 · 20/09/2013 20:19

I've never watched it (yet) but violently object on principle to cartoons drawn to look deliberately ugly... Can you tell we only have a 9 month old ds?

brightnearly · 20/09/2013 20:20

I think Mummy Sheep is a lone parent, too. I like Peppa Pig!

brightnearly · 20/09/2013 20:22

Granny and Grandpa Pig are Mummy Pig's parents, as seen in the episode where they clear out the attic and find Mummy Pig's favourite childhood record!

PumpUpMyVolume · 20/09/2013 20:25

Granny & Grandpa Pig are Mummy Pigs parents... there is the episode with the Birdy Birdy Woof Woof song which confirms it Grin

I don't really think too much about anti-intellectualism as such... I just think Peppa is completely up herself and she drives me MAD Angry She even picks herself as the best bloody fancy dress... Shame it is the favourite show of both my DC!

I like Grampy Rabbit too - just about makes it bearable... the sea, the sky, the sea, the sky, the seeeee Grin

katese11 · 20/09/2013 20:25

Thanks bright I have been pondering that for ages!
