to think this man was horrid

Went to buy DS some wellies so pulled into a car parking space. It's a tight car park and so when I opened my car door it rested on next doors car. I did NOT bash it or open my door hard or anything. Anyway when I got out and turned around this small fat man with a beard (definitely NOT Santa) said 'you'll pay for any damage you've done to my car'. I shut my car door and looked at his car there were no marks, scratches or even dirt transferred to his car. I replied 'but I haven't scratched your car' and then tried to get DS out of my car.
He then said 'that's only because I was here otherwise you would have damaged it.' I was a bit opened mouthed at this and just repeated that I hadn't done anything to his car. He just seemed to be looking for a fight. I really wanted to say that 1. I hadn't damaged his precious car (that had other large dents in),2. That he was stood behind me and I didn't know he was there when I got out. And 3. How the hell was I meant to know it was his car as he stood quite far away from it.
I ignored him after that but he was really aggressive and I expected to come back to find my car damaged.
He made me feel rubbish though, hate confrontation and only think of good things to say afterwards. Did mention it to the shop though in case he was worried to anyone else.
So if that man or his wife is reading this I want to say that I hope you have a lovely day and hope that the bug that is firmly wedged up your arse eventually falls out.

Meh.

spongebob13 · 25/08/2013 13:27

much ado about nothing

Lweji · 25/08/2013 13:28

Perhaps those dents were caused by careless drivers.

Could you not have hold the door so that it would cushion your door against his car?

You did risk it leaving a mark on it and I wouldn't have been best pleased to watch it done to my car either.

TidyDancer · 25/08/2013 13:30

What has his size got to do with it?

I really hate how people revert to using someone's physicality as an insult. :(

Chopchopbusybusy · 25/08/2013 13:31

If you'd 'rested' your car door on my car I would have spoken to you about it.

Onesleeptillwembley · 25/08/2013 13:33

What's the relevance of other dents on his car? Or do you think that it wouldn't have mattered of you had dented it because of them? I also wouldn't have been pleased to see you putting your car door up against mine. Pretty ignorant action.

cushtie335 · 25/08/2013 13:33

Doesn't look like you're getting much sympathy on here OP.

It's not really worth stressing over, nothing happened.

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 13:37

Surprised at posts so far!

Cars will be touched by people/things/animals/other cars. And yes, some car parks are so tight you can't not touch the neighbouring car. Perfectly easy to do so with out any danger of damage.

StayAwayFromTheEdge · 25/08/2013 13:39

I'd have said something too - if the space is too small park somewhere else.

tobiasfunke · 25/08/2013 13:39

The guy was a miserable twat. You didn't damage his car.
People are stupidly precious about cars I'm surprised some people actually take them out of their garage.

ilovesooty · 25/08/2013 13:40

I really hate how people revert to using someone's physicality as an insult

Agreed.

As far as the OP's concerned, it hardly sounds like nasty event of the century, and "horrid" always sounds so helpless little girly to me. Are you usually this thin skinned?

SeaSickSal · 25/08/2013 13:41

Really, you should have held the door so it didn't hit his.

DuchessFanny · 25/08/2013 13:41

I always take care to hold on to the side of my door when getting out in small spaces to avoid touching the car next to me, as my car is covered in scratches which pisses me off mightily and I'd hate to do it to someone else ... Agree the fact he was 'small, fat with a beard' is completely irrelevant and slightly inflammatory. What on earth does his appearance have to do with anything ? ( other than pointing out he was NOT Santa Grin )

dunkedbiscuits · 25/08/2013 13:42

I did wonder if he'd had a bad experience. Just describing him as in setting the scene, if he was tall and skinny I would have said that.
He was just so aggressive with it. Unnecessarily aggressive. I actually was really careful when opening the door but without opening it as fully as I could I wouldn't have been able to get out. I would have held the door but unfortunately needed both hands to help get out of the car.
I also wondered if he was having a bad day. But then he has no idea that my day has been rubbish too (in agony with arthritis and DM dying of cancer). I was calm back but if he goes round talking to everyone like that eventually someone is going to smack him.

A bug wedged up his arse?

cushtie335 · 25/08/2013 13:45

Maybe the bug up his arse has a rod up it as well. Seriously, you have much more pressing things to occupy you. Let this one go.

picnicbasketcase · 25/08/2013 13:46

He does sound like he was just looking for an argument. It wouldn't bother me that another car door touched my car as long as it didn't actually bang into it or cause any damage. In future you probably should put your hand between the two doors to ensure no damage but just try to put this incident out of your head.

FutTheShuckUp · 25/08/2013 13:47

Unless the bug was norovirus. I'm sure that will soon come out of his arse

littlemog · 25/08/2013 13:47

this small fat man with a beard (definitely NOT Santa)

You'll forgive me for having no sympathy for a person who posts shit like this about other people. I am so sorry that he was 'howwid' but you don't sound very nice yourself really.

VerySmallSqueak · 25/08/2013 13:49

Sounds like he was a proper little ray of sunshine!

Forget it and be glad that you're not such a miserable bugger as him.

Wuxiapian · 25/08/2013 13:52

Why mention his size and the other dents?! They are irrelevant.

Chopchopbusybusy · 25/08/2013 13:54

Ilovesooty, I also really dislike the word horrid. It's just so Enid Blyton.

ShellyBoobs · 25/08/2013 13:55

YABVU.

If you can't stop your car door touching someone else's car, you shouldn't driving.

And describing the man's appearance in the hope of backing up your own reasonableness is nasty.

Mia4 · 25/08/2013 13:59

Sounds like he was the kind of person who gets others banging into his doors a fair it and so figured you were the same-especially since you rested your door against him.

Sadly he met someone who isn't like those other people but jumped on you before realising it, his bad there though personally i would have apologised while saying there was no damage; sadly there are far too many arseholes who bang doors and a fair few will be parents getting kids from cars -as a quote from a very self-entitled madam i know 'if i can't get in parent and child, I don't give a damn if i hit someone's car, they should make spaces bigger or get used to the fact some people can't get kids out without damaged.

LEMisdisappointed · 25/08/2013 13:59

What Tidy Dancer said!! oh and a fair few others!

Maybe you shouldn't have parked so close!

He sounded really rude, but then, so do you - you should have swapped numbers, match made in heaven.
