to think this man was horrid

Went to buy DS some wellies so pulled into a car parking space. It's a tight car park and so when I opened my car door it rested on next doors car. I did NOT bash it or open my door hard or anything. Anyway when I got out and turned around this small fat man with a beard (definitely NOT Santa) said 'you'll pay for any damage you've done to my car'. I shut my car door and looked at his car there were no marks, scratches or even dirt transferred to his car. I replied 'but I haven't scratched your car' and then tried to get DS out of my car.
He then said 'that's only because I was here otherwise you would have damaged it.' I was a bit opened mouthed at this and just repeated that I hadn't done anything to his car. He just seemed to be looking for a fight. I really wanted to say that 1. I hadn't damaged his precious car (that had other large dents in),2. That he was stood behind me and I didn't know he was there when I got out. And 3. How the hell was I meant to know it was his car as he stood quite far away from it.
I ignored him after that but he was really aggressive and I expected to come back to find my car damaged.
He made me feel rubbish though, hate confrontation and only think of good things to say afterwards. Did mention it to the shop though in case he was worried to anyone else.
So if that man or his wife is reading this I want to say that I hope you have a lovely day and hope that the bug that is firmly wedged up your arse eventually falls out.

YABU. The only place I have encountered the attitude that it is ok "lightly bang" or rest your car door against someone else's vehicle is mumsnet. None of the rest of the world agrees with this.

So definitely YABU. But presumably not on mumsnet.

Chopchopbusybusy · 25/08/2013 19:50

Aaaaargh! If the space is too small you hold the door as you get in. Maybe the OP parked like a knob. We'll never know as she's disappeared.
I've lived in London. It's really not all that special.

Chopchopbusybusy · 25/08/2013 19:52

Ooh Kelly. Touchy!

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 19:52

Eh Hmm

She rested her car door on his and did no damage whatsoever. Only on MN would there be anyone getting their knickers in a twist about such a triviality.

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 19:53

Lol

Chopchopbusybusy · 25/08/2013 19:55

Oh are we lol ing now on MN too?

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 19:56

Wow!

LessMissAbs · 25/08/2013 19:56

Only on mumsnet does resting your car on someone else's property never cause any damage...all those scratches that mysteriously appear and reduce the trade in value must be spontaneous anomalies...

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 19:57

Is that the royal we? Is there a rule about LOL that exists on MN that you could point us to?

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 19:59

Did you read the OP Abs? She clearly stated there was no damage. The man acknowledged there was no damage, but still continued being an arse. The arsiness rests firmly at his doorstep.

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 20:00

Won't anyone think of the theoretical damage!?

Chopchopbusybusy · 25/08/2013 20:01

Oh FFS I really am off now.

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 20:01

Lol

LessMissAbs · 25/08/2013 20:02

Admittedly I'm slightly touchy about the subject today as while I was standing behind my boot getting something out, a driver actually drove her car into me slightly to park end to end. It was very slight and I wasn't hurt, but she wasn't as apologetic as I would have expected her attitude was more that I was a nuisance having the temerity to be there-

As a result of this, and other threads I have read on mumsnet showing a distorted attitude towards damaging other people's cars, I now expect a thread to pop up on here complaining about a woman unreasonably glaring at a driver and being in their way when they parked their car...

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 20:02

And the theoretical reduction in trade value! And the theoretical mental anguish suffered by the man whose car the OP's door rested on!! My goodness, he and his car may simply never recover from this theoretical incident!!!

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 20:03

You're allowed special dispensation I think, miss.

LessMissAbs · 25/08/2013 20:04

SirChenjin according to some on here, they could bash a neighouring car with a hammer and it would still cause no damage. Scratches and dents are always there before. I don't see how the car owner could have inspected his car before the OP drove off anyway.

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 20:04

But the car wasn't damaged!! Not even a little bit - and this was acknowledged by the man, who continued to rant regardless.

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 20:06

And the OP didn't drive off - she went into the shop whilst he got into his car and drove away, so ample opportunity for him to inspect for damage.

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 20:06

Miss - well if we're just going to disbelieve the op then it renders every discussion rather pointless, doesn't it?

KellyHopter · 25/08/2013 20:10

I think what happens is: op posts about a specific scenario, people read it and it makes them think of a similar but crucially different scenario and then spout off at op ignoring crucial difference. Then when they're reminded of how much they're veering from the facts they then question op's version.
Nuts.

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 20:13

Agree Kelly. I do wish there was less conjecture on MN at times.

dreamingoflavender · 25/08/2013 20:15

I think Kelly just summed MN up quite nicely Grin

mrspremise · 25/08/2013 20:16

I wholeheartedly agree with previous comments that hs height and physical size have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Would you like to be pigeonholed in this awful way? Didn't think so. Maybe you should be a bit more careful; perhaps all those other dents were caused by people thinking it didn't matter...

SirChenjin · 25/08/2013 20:19

Did you read the OP MrsP? There was no damage. Not even a tiny bit. Not even theoretical damage. Not even damage in a parallel universe. Zilch. Zero. Rien.
