to think that "bring your own drinks" in Indian restaurants refers to alcohol only?

We often go to an unlicensed Indian restaurant and I can't believe the number of people who bring their own soft drinks. Big bottles of Coke etc. I think this is really unfair. "Bring your own" clearly means alcohol only!

Why don't the cheeky sods bring their own food, too, and have done with it.

I agree Shelly. A chap this evening was asking for glasses and ice for his table for the bottles of soft drink that they brought in. I think it's really cheeky.

Well then they should state "ALCOHOL ONLY" in which case, all the non drinkers would complain it's not fair. So YABU...they can't have it both ways! They make money on the food.

Yes. I've never come across a restaurant that doesn't sell soft drinks.

As many Indian restaurants aren't licensed, I presume it is for religious reasons.

I bet it makes a big difference to bills when people bring their own soft drinks. it's the same as consuming your own food, rather than ordering off the menu.

I used to go to a lovely Moroccan byod, it was a great place, the food was class A, they did charge corkage (cheeky gits Grin).

I never had occasion to ask for a soft drink Grin

our local is byob place. We take wine or beers.

The DC can order cokes or fantas off the menu to drink. Or lassi. Or they can drink the free table water.

I don't see how anyone can interpret bring your own as meaning bring your own coke. Unless of course the restaurant doesn't sell pop.

Surely you have the choice to bring your own soft drinks or buy from them. I don't think there is a rule!

They don't sell alcohol but offer the option of you bringing your own, no need at all to bring your own soft drinks.

neither do I, Yoni. The place we went to today sells juices, pop, all sorts and still cheeky people come in with big bottles of soft drinks in supermarket carrier bags and stick them on the table.

If the restaurant wants to stop this happening then they need to do whatever it is they would have to do to get an alcohol licence.

They can't advertise an invitation to bring your own drinks that is only allowed to be accepted by the people who are able, or who choose, to drink alcohol.

I may simply be a misunderstanding. I have been to places that sell soft drinks and places that dont provide anything other than tap water and glasses, not even ice.

I have to admit that I would probably take my soft drink of preference if I was going to a BYO place that I had not been to before just in case. Would I drink them? Depends how much the food was and how much they were charging for a coke :o

It's down to the owners and they should state what they mean by bring your own drinks.

A sign saying if you wish to consume alcoholic beverages please be aware we don't sell it and you are welcome to bring your own. Soft drink are available for purchase.
