to think that "bring your own drinks" in Indian restaurants refers to alcohol only?

We often go to an unlicensed Indian restaurant and I can't believe the number of people who bring their own soft drinks. Big bottles of Coke etc. I think this is really unfair. "Bring your own" clearly means alcohol only!

Someone with manners wouldn't call me a " grubby little chancer " for doing a perfectly reasonable thing.

Quite often the tips form part of their wage. If a service charge hasn't been added and the service has been good it's generally considered polite to acknowledge that.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/08/2013 22:10

I did not call you a "grubby little chancer" read back through the thread.

I do think you are hilarious though.

If you were my friend I would never go out for meals with you and that's a fact.

ilovesooty · 19/08/2013 22:21

I've not been out for a meal with my sister after she refused to leave a tip (after our waitress had been lovely) on the grounds that the staff het paid. It was just embarrassing.

ilovesooty · 19/08/2013 22:22

Thankfully she doesn't like curry so the BYO question wouldn't arise.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/08/2013 22:33

sooty my dp's brother did that after spending a good 10 minutes saying how good the service was and how much he had enjoyed his meal. I was Shock and was forceful enough in my opinion that he did leave a tip in the end.

Good service (bad food isn't the servers fault and I will tip because they've dealt with it well) gets a tip. Without fail. Even when I was student.

Boosiehs · 19/08/2013 22:56

Ninja hero, crikey. I'm glad we are not friends in rl, as I would be utterly mortified to go out fr dinner with someone who behaves like you.

FYI, BYO is only booze, tipping is not optional, it's good manners where service has been anything other than bad.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 19/08/2013 22:58

The restaurants I frequent don't have signs saying please don't shit on the table. Doesn't mean it's ok to do that.

Jesus wept. It's not difficult.

I'd take that fucking tight why bother going our at all? Microwave some cardboard.

ilovesooty · 19/08/2013 22:59

Thanks Alis

That lovely waitress took her steak back and forth three times because it wasn't exactly as she wanted it. What is it with some people? Blush

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 19/08/2013 23:00

She probably wiped her arse with it the third time!

I am always nice to serving staff in part because I was worked a similar job in which "the customer is always right" (fucking well are not) so know how shit it can be.

Bit of human kindness along with manners innit. Harder for some than others!
