AIBU?

to think that "bring your own drinks" in Indian restaurants refers to alcohol only?

We often go to an unlicensed Indian restaurant and I can't believe the number of people who bring their own soft drinks. Big bottles of Coke etc. I think this is really unfair. "Bring your own" clearly means alcohol only!

Thing is though pisstaking is in the eye of the beholder or recipient of the behaviour , not usual for the pisstaker themselves to say 'Hi, I'm a pisstaker, table for two please' Hmm
Am pretty sure my local restaurant would think you were taking the piss - you'd soon be 'put right ' if you tried it there and probably by the regulars at neighbouring tables before the owners even got a chance !
Are you the only one in a group who doesn't believe in tipping but still grabs an After Eight mint off the plate or knocks back the complimentary shot that comes after the bills been paid ?

Because I don't think it's polite. I don't drink soft drinks, anyway. I drink water.

What sign are you talking about Ninja?

BYOB is a widely understood concept. It doesn't mean bring your own bottle of anything you like.

Bring your own what though, ninja? You get that you can infer that its not bring your own candles and table cloth, why can't you grasp the further step that there is the inference that Drinks=Alcohol to the vast majority of people?

Yes, they are hardly going to mean ' If you think our soft drinks are too highly priced, don't worry just bring your own , we wont mind ' Grin

That is true, pisstakers and cheeky feckers never realise how rude, self-absorbed and entitled they are. They even think they are being sensible.

This is why restaurants and service establishments should be very clear and why people who are targeted by such people must be very clear with them.

As for their threatening to go elsewhere, any service establishment is well-rid of such a person.

I am about to sit down to curry - bringing your own soft drinks most definitely allowed...because I am at home Grin

I get pissed off by this.
A person brings 2 litres of cider for £2 from Tesco.
A non drinker, let's call him Tiggy, has to buy cokey cola from the club/restaraunt/swinger's club at £1.50 for 250ml which works out at £12 for 2 litres.

Then don't buy a Coke. Have water. Or find a restaurant more suited to you.

Bad luck Tiggy buts its a Licence and alcohol thing. You can always ask for tap water.

Is this the Supersoaker thread of 2013, I wonder Grin?

I went though your dictornary link and it said bring your own bottle and that's exactly what I do,take my own 2 litter bottle of coke.BTW yes tiping is a stupid concept and I don't do it.

I looked at your link, yes of it says alcohol fine but since most just say bottle then I'll take a bottle of coke but if you want to pay restaurant prices for drinks when your allowed to bring them in,go ahead.

I have seriously never thought about it. We usually take wine or beer for whoever isn't driving and a bottle of coke for the kids and the driver.
My local restaurant has no drinks at all apart from a jug of tap water.
I'm quite good friends with the manager (I like curry) so I'm going to ask him next time I see him.

It also said "Bring your own booze"

The links I provided make the meaning quite clear in practice.

And as for the tipping - wow: you sound a real charmer.

If the restaurant doesn't sell drinks I think it's a totally different issue.

But it also said BRING YOUR OWN BOTTLE.

Twiggy - the soft drink costs what it costs, it's totally unrelated to and unaffected by someone else bringing their own booze.
You might as well be Angry that someone saves on wine but you have to pay full whack for rice.
Two seperate things.
