Here's an extract of the lyrics if you are lucky enough to have not been subjected to them...

Baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
You don't need no papers
That man is not your maker
And that's why I'm gon' take a
Good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl

I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two

Nothin' like your last guy, he too square for you
He don't smack that ass and pull your hair like that
So I'm just watching and waitin'
For you to salute the true big pimpin'

Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What you don't like work

I know it's a bit old now... But it still makes me so Angry

I've not seen the version of the video where a woman gets literally torn in two. Must be bad though.

limitedperiodonly · 16/08/2013 19:42

It's called Blurred Lines. In the spirit of the song, I don't understand what that means, so it seems reasonable to ask what it does.

Could be rape. If Thicky wants to give another explanation I'm all ears.

Mintyy · 16/08/2013 21:27

As I understand it, Thicky has been quoted as saying "Sexist? Me??" and acting all hands up and disingenuous about it.

But, as I say, I was having this online conversation about the song two months ago, and things may have moved on since I last gave it serious headspace.

SinisterSal · 16/08/2013 21:31

It's 'empowering', dontcha know, Mintty

Sorry for double post!

Empowering my arse.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 16/08/2013 21:38

Mintyy, I think the only way he would like to empower a woman's arse would be by tearing it in two, evidently.

SinisterSal · 16/08/2013 21:38

'empowering my arse'
He does touch on that very topic, Mintyy, seeing as you mention it.
Tearing your arse in two is empowering. You see? You know you want it

SinisterSal · 16/08/2013 21:39

x posts! in fairness that statement did cry out for that joke

SirChenjin · 16/08/2013 22:12

I'm not sure Thicke Boy has fully grasped the definition of 'empowering'....it sounds as if he's heard the word and decided to try it out without fully understanding its meaning.

Oh well, I hope he's very happy counting his grubby tenners.

SinisterSal · 16/08/2013 22:15

He's not the only one SirChenjin

Lorelilee · 16/08/2013 22:30

I LOVE the song, but am utterly conflicted due to the lyrics and video. However, I take great offence at people doing the 'tut tut' head shakey thing because I am not mortally offended at the entire concept and therefore don't understand.

SinisterSal · 16/08/2013 22:44

The devil has all the best tunes

motownmover · 17/08/2013 06:19

BeCool thanks for the link - what a rip off.

Love this comment:

"Thicke, just one of many who got his start through nepotism, can't reach Marvin Gayes's toenails. He is another semi-talent and suing the Gaye family is downright repulsive. I hope he is counter-sued and hit with a HUGE fine."

TobyLerone · 17/08/2013 06:56

There is a simple way of stopping your young children hearing crap like this -- stop listening to shitty chart radio.

It's not the ideal solution, obviously. But it's easy enough to do if you want to.

TinyCC · 17/08/2013 08:12

Thicke l

TinyCC · 17/08/2013 08:13

Thicke looks like Simon Cowell in the video - not entirely sure that's what he was going for.

Cheesecakefactory · 17/08/2013 09:18

I hate the video for it, why is there any need for naked women to be in it? Things like that should be banned tbh, it's insulting to women

SirChenjin · 17/08/2013 09:28

SinisterSal - no, he's not the only one sadly.

Wasapea · 17/08/2013 10:55

I listened to it this morning and raised my Brew to you lot.

SirChenjin · 17/08/2013 11:24

I didn't listen to it this morning - it came on the radio and I switched it off, deciding that I didn't really want to listen to a pop song about a woman having her anus split in 2.

Wasapea · 17/08/2013 12:29

You must do a lot of outraged turning off of the radio if you take everything so literally.

Whogivesashit · 17/08/2013 13:03

I think you should stop clutching your pearls and hoiking your bosom.

SirChenjin · 17/08/2013 13:20

No pearl clutching, bosom hoiking or outraged turning off here
