To want to leave this website for making me think about that one.

It's really really upset me, I've had some great support on this forum but I think I have to be off.

Such a shame.

OP, firstly, people lie on the internet, so he may just get his kicks from making nasty shit up. There is no way I'm clicking on that link to find out however.

Equally, just about every awful thing you can possibly imagine has happened somewhere in the world since the dawn of time, and probably to women and children. So he may not be making it up. HOWEVER if you think about it too much you will literally go mad.
You have to put a barrier between yourself and too much misery. Don't click on links which will make you cry. It is a form of masochism. Don't feed the emotional troll inside your head.

Lastly, and not many people believe this but I think it's been proven, the world is probably as safe and as kind as it has ever been since the dawn of modern civilisation. We just know more. Because of the bloody, sainted internet.

ViviPru · 13/08/2013 12:42

WhatHo If you're not doing anything for the rest of your life would you mind acting as my spokesperson articulating my thoughts for me way better than I could do for myself thank you please?

EasyMark · 13/08/2013 12:48

((((((hugs)))))))

Its the intrenet so most is not real, hide the thread and dont engage its not manditory. Freedom of speach is important to protect but there is laws that cover the intrenet and if they want to confess to crimes go ahead and the police will be knocking on their door.

InTheRedCorner · 13/08/2013 12:53

Log off and have a sandwhich

Fantastic advice Smile

filee777 · 13/08/2013 12:59

I can't 'have a sandwich' however much I would like to because I am at work.

Why be so mean to someone already sad? Does it make you feel all big and clever?

whatho and others thanks for your support.

I doubt anyone wants to upset you but come on, it's the internet and you don't have to read the dodgy stuff.

Choose carefully what you click on and don't give the bad stuff head space.

Tee2072 · 13/08/2013 13:02

Perhaps we should have a test for using the internet.

"Do you believe everything you read online?"

Yes.

"ISP account deleted."

No

"Proceed."

Thank fuck it's gone, I hope it's the last time Mumsnet decides we should condone those nasty fucks.

Vivi, glad to, I have to do it to myself regularly Grin

filee I don't think the sandwich PP was trying to be mean, just tough love.
Have a massive glass of wine tonight, make a mental (or real) voodoo doll of whoever wrote the evil post, and repeat to yourself, "there are more nice people in the world than evil ones" while sticking pins in it Wink and then, like Beer says, try and forget about it.

xx

@filee777

It's not what they have to say that bothers me, I've known and ignored the website for years

It's that our 'team' want to engage with them

It's in site stuff if anyone is interested

We're sorry you feel like this, filee777 Sad

But just to be very clear.

The MNHQ 'team' does not 'want to engage with them'.

We simply thought we were wrong to delete an earlier post - that didn't break our guidelines - in which they made an attempt to engage with us.

We have no problem with folks wanting to engage with us, as long as they do so within our site rules. Obviously, none of us are under any obligation to respond to the attempt to engage.

The OP of that thread has since broken our site rules, so that thread has been deleted.

littlewhitebag · 13/08/2013 13:19

I've clicked on those links and only get a thread deleted notice. No idea what is was about.

magimedi · 13/08/2013 13:39

The last sentence of the deletion notice is wonderful!!

YouStayClassySanDiego · 13/08/2013 13:42

What was it magi

Footface · 13/08/2013 13:49

So are you saying that you no longer delect threads as long as they don't break guidelines.

So if an EDL mod come on this site, stating he was from the edl but talking about flowers you would let that stand?

LtEveDallas · 13/08/2013 13:57

Meh. I'm a member of ARRSE, have been for years (not that I post there any more). I've just done a search and in the last week there have been something like 20 threads started that mention MN. I don't need to look at them to know that they will be full of mysoginistic bullshit meant to inflame.

So some members post over here to try to get a rise out of MNers. Judging by the OP it worked, again. Just ignore, delete or hide thread, then they don't get the kicks they are after. The more you acknowledge them, the more they will do it. Ignore them and they go back to their own forum and slag us off, converse with them and they will slag us off on our own site.

The OP of that thread wasnt a mod, and only started it to inflame. It worked though didn't it? Treat them like the silly little boys and soldier wannabes that they are and they will get bored. Not worth getting worked up over it.

Amrapaali · 13/08/2013 14:11

WhatHo Whenever I see your name, I keep hearing Sid's voice. "What ho? A foe?" From Ice Age. Completely cracks me up. Yep, that's how juvenile I am.

Am sure you were actually channelling Bertie Wooster...

fromparistoberlin · 13/08/2013 14:17

hey OP

being a nosy (and lazy) I had a peek. Whats so bad? OK the whore/cunt comments aint the nicest but most threads were just a bit sweary

I dunno, dont get upset. Though I spent weeks miserable about the Daniel Pelka story so who am I to talk

Eyesunderarock · 13/08/2013 14:20

'I dunno, dont get upset. Though I spent weeks miserable about the Daniel Pelka story so who am I to talk'

So you didn't get as far as the posts boasting about rape and baby/child murder then?

filee777 · 13/08/2013 14:21

The thread I read was really bad, I couldn't finish it I read the first four or so posts and they were all dreadful, inhumane and disturbing.

I don't have the link for you sorry

OP posts:
fromparistoberlin · 13/08/2013 14:26

link me, or tell me thread title

Yup lets fucking depress myself again hey

OR, lets hide thread and not depress the fuck out of ourselves xxxxx

WhatHo · 13/08/2013 14:29

paris, don't do it. Apart from anything else, you are pushing the visitor numbers up on the site and making it more successful.

WhatHo · 13/08/2013 14:30

Amra I'll have to check that out! Grin

poppingin1 · 13/08/2013 16:03

I just read the Kenya thread, or at least the first few pages.

I don't in all honesty understand why there is so much shock about this. This is history and current affairs, this is what happened and continues to happen.

Posters on MN may very well have friends and relatives who engaged in such conduct, it is not at all unusual. Not to say that this is acceptable or that every military person is like that. But if you have friends or family who have been in, or are in the military, surely you should accept that it is very plausible that they have participated or been witness to some very depraved and inhumane activities.

I say this as someone who knows for a fact that quite a few of the last generation of men in my family have killed people in war time.

This is the Kenya link.

filee777 · 13/08/2013 16:06

I am very aware that the armed forces engage in such conduct. It doesn't so much shock me as upset me, deeply. I do not support the forces, I don't agree with men and women being paid to kill and being labelled 'Heros' blindly. I did not appreciate being a part of a website that wanted to engage with human beings that found the conduct of (some) of our armed forces as funny or manly.

It really, really fucked me off.
