It's really really upset me, I've had some great support on this forum but I think I have to be off.

Such a shame.

I haven't said ANYTHING about your partner being more likely to rape littlemiss but i will say this, i think that people in the forces are more likely to ignore it

Based on what?

I think they are desensitised to peoples feelings and allow horrendous things to go on unreported, i think they 'follow orders' even if those orders are acts of terror.

Ditto. People tend to get hauled to the Hague for doing that...

But yes, lets all feel sorry for the people who have CHOSEN to go to war, get PAID to be there and ignore the fact that a number of them are nasty cunts who abuse people for fun

Bangs head against table.

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 11:37

by the way - when I say Ditto, I don't agree with you.

I'm asking what you're basing it on?

filee777 · 14/08/2013 11:37

You dont know anything about me, what an absurd comment!

OP posts:
filee777 · 14/08/2013 11:40

I am basing it on the atrocities that happen abroad, have a look at 'veterans against war' and some of the stuff that they have to say about blindly following orders.

Only recently it came out that Afghani prisoners were beaten and tortured by members of our forces who had not even been fired! This stuff DOES happen, if you are unable to see that, but then in the next breath say 'well stuff does happen in a war-zone so you have to expect it' you are both contradicting yourself AND deluded.

littlemiss you are straying into personal territory. Filee hasn't said anything incriminating aboutnyour DH or cast aspersions. You are projecting too much, I think...

fromparistoberlin · 14/08/2013 11:43

OP, please

are you going to report what you read about alleged child abuse? yes, no????

I get what you are upset about, I really do, but you realise you wont change it arguing on here? you are just upsetting yourself.

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 11:44

I don't 'expect' it to happen. The fact that it did is disgusting.

Nor do I believe the Forces are all angels. Far from it.

But you said the Forces are 'more likely to ignore rape and more likely to allow atrocities to go unreported. (Quite apart from the fact that civilians aren't as likely to witness atrocities or be given orders in the first place)...

Again; what are you basing that on?

OP if you were so traumatised that you couldn't eat and had to hide this thread why are you now back on it?

WhatHo · 14/08/2013 11:49

Chaps, sorry, but I'm reporting this thread. It's gone aggressive on all sides.

And I agree with paris - filee I think you should log out and let this thread go.

OP
I think you have lost the sympathy of many people on this thread.

Stop bringing more and more stories of atrocities committed around the world onto this thread and state what you actually want us to do.

Reporting the Kenya thread to CEOPS won't do any good. They are not set up to investigate nasty language against women. Or vague tales of abuse that may or may not have happened.

And quite frankly, they have enough to do without looking at year old threads posted on the internet by some people who may or may not be bullshitting. Such as concrete leads to follow up, images of children who ARE being abused.

You obviously have a strong opinion about the role that UK plays in other countries, and I would suggest you aim your rage at the government and the MOD, not at the servicewomen of Mumsnet and at the wives of soldiers, who have nothing to do with policies.

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 11:57

And now I've hit report for that last personal attack.

mignonette · 14/08/2013 11:58

They are not conscripts LittleMiss. The joined up willingly. I would be willling to support armed forces fund raising if it was for those affected by conscription but not when they have chosen to do it. And if the army recruits from regions where young people have little hope and prospects for employment....Well that is another whole moral issue right there.

And as for what they are doing in the current conflicts....I feel less safe for having them there.

And as for the 'glad there are those willing to protect us'. Well 1) plenty of neutral countries that seem to manage alright; 2) The expansion of the UN peacekeeping force into a more proactive enforcement agency armed and able to fight if necessary to maintain the peace would suffice with each country paying a fraction of its armed forces budget to finance this (and it'd be less 'impossible' to police ugliness in the ranks)

No your husband may not be involved in the unpleasantness. I'm sure he is a good man. But he represents an organisation with more than its fair share of unpleasant employees and an organisation that falls on the sentimental 'gland ' of the British public whose taxes pay for it. So he has to take the flak just as I have ti take the flak at a public angry at the way nursing seems to be going. And surely if life in the forces is so tough, that is the very least of it, worrying what a bunch of pearl clutchers think about it.

And in the meantime, why should charity pay for the rehabilitation and treatment of staff? Less charitable funds coming in might make the forces angry enough to demand the government of the day pays for all medical and psychological treatment. BTW one of my MH RMN colleagues is a Falklands veteran. I have nursed psychologically damaged veterans so I do have an insight. I stayed with my Aunts and Uncles whilst they were living in various bases in Germany, they had access to a forces mountain chalet available for holidays. I do have an insight. My cousins attended boarding schools in the UK and stayed with us on their exeats. So again I am not insightless.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 11:58

Ok, I missed the thread in question, but Ive been involved with these ARRSE / PetrolHeads / Digitalspy issues before.
You do realise, that these little fuckwits are sitting over on their website, reading threads like this and jerking themselves off over the attention don't you?
This is exactly what they want. You are just indirectly feeding the trolls.

filee777 · 14/08/2013 11:59

I am satisfied (mostly from the MNHQ comment) that Mumsnet is not about to start affiliating with that dreadful fucking website. I think it was disgraceful that they even considered engaging with them about anything.

The thread moved on. Yes it is something i feel strongly about, my children and my family are at risk because of the actions of these 'brave heroes' abroad and that really fucking winds me up, mostly because if you say anything negative about them you are told they are 'protecting you' how the fuck is raping and murdering people protecting me? Its pathetic.

People need to wake up to what our armed forces really do, both the big picture and the littler ones, the messes we leave behind and the wars we should never fucking start.

Otherwise we only have ourselves to blame to be honest and that is a scary thought.

If you want to have a discussion about the policies of the UK abroad, then I suggest you start one without the sweeping statements and personal attacks.
