AIBU to hang my boots up and then retire from AIBU/MN?

Right, been here for two years, learned a few things, had a few laughs, been impressed with the kindness and thoughtfulness of people and was helped through one particularly difficult episode.

But I've had enough. I'm closing my account down this week.

I'm not sure if things have got worse of late, or the scales have fallen from my eyes, but AIBU seems stuffed to the rafters with threads that don't sit right with me. Either they're goady (the 'classic' benefit basher thread endlessly recycled) trolling attempts or threads you know can't be true as they contain information that contradict what the poster wrote a couple a days ago.

I'm at the stage now, where I am so jaded that I treat nearly everything I read on AIBU with suspicion, which I know isn't fair on genuine posters. Which is a pity as AIBU should be and, at its best ,still is a brilliant resource and source of mutual support.

To be fair, I genuinely don't know what, if anything, can be done by mods/MNHQ to improve the status quo. MNHQ were good enough to write me a detailed email explaining how they mod the site and the ethos behind their decision making, but until there's something more rigorous in place, I'm out.

I fear that eventually the entire board will become so full of crap that there won't be any genuine posters left and it will become an endless feedback loop of goaders, bullshitters, emotional vampires and Walter Mitty types, all peddling nonsense to one another.

Anyway, farewell and good luck to all.

What's the story with name changes? Can you change name and then change back, is there anything to link you to your old name?

UnitedZingDom · 13/08/2013 20:22

dee I've done it before, back and forth, to test it, but it didn't work today.

people NC for various reasons.
if you change your name to give you protection from being identified at all when you start a thread or post about something very personal or sensitive then it's best to not give out too many details.

and if you NC you should test it worked before actually posting sensitive matter - there have been massive NC failures in the past that put the posters in a difficult position.

Oh Compo, please don't go.

UnitedZingDom · 13/08/2013 20:25

and the only link to your old name is the information you give!

so if you change your name too say "FairyNuff" no one will know it's you unless you say so! (well MNHQ will, but they won't reveal it)

Deemail · 13/08/2013 20:25

Oh I am a blabber mouth so the option to name change and not be tracked down sounds good.

UnitedZingDom · 13/08/2013 20:33

dee
but if you blab after NC what's the use?Grin

I only change my name coz I get bored. or for fun as per upthread.
although that is what backfired spectacularly.
(and between you and me it was unnecessary as neither of them thanked me for showing such devotion. oh well Wink)
