AIBU to hang my boots up and then retire from AIBU/MN?

Right, been here for two years, learned a few things, had a few laughs, been impressed with the kindness and thoughtfulness of people and was helped through one particularly difficult episode.

But I've had enough. I'm closing my account down this week.

I'm not sure if things have got worse of late, or the scales have fallen from my eyes, but AIBU seems stuffed to the rafters with threads that don't sit right with me. Either they're goady (the 'classic' benefit basher thread endlessly recycled) trolling attempts or threads you know can't be true as they contain information that contradict what the poster wrote a couple a days ago.

I'm at the stage now, where I am so jaded that I treat nearly everything I read on AIBU with suspicion, which I know isn't fair on genuine posters. Which is a pity as AIBU should be and, at its best ,still is a brilliant resource and source of mutual support.

To be fair, I genuinely don't know what, if anything, can be done by mods/MNHQ to improve the status quo. MNHQ were good enough to write me a detailed email explaining how they mod the site and the ethos behind their decision making, but until there's something more rigorous in place, I'm out.

I fear that eventually the entire board will become so full of crap that there won't be any genuine posters left and it will become an endless feedback loop of goaders, bullshitters, emotional vampires and Walter Mitty types, all peddling nonsense to one another.

Anyway, farewell and good luck to all.

Yeh but MN always goes funny during the summer hols.

Plus AIBU (also known as 'Am I Baiting U') has always been the most famous and yet most shit part of the site.

Have a flounce until the schools go back, then stick to Chat.

And shouldn't this be in 'flouncer's corner'?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 13/08/2013 11:32

Arse are back are they? Yippee.

Compo, dont go, your manly perspective would be missed Grin

GobbySadcase · 13/08/2013 11:35

Oh Christ being sucked into benefits threads now.... Must not engage, they're fuckwits...

ZingLovesTheSecondComing · 13/08/2013 11:35

what is the arse thread?

ComposHat · 13/08/2013 11:40

And shouldn't this be in 'flouncer's corner'?

or flouncers' corner? (The corner belonging to more than one flouncer?) It is a grammatical minefield out there.

Thank you everyone for the kind words.

Perhaps it depends whether you're a saddo in there by yourself, Oh Flouncy Grammatical Pedant of Pedantland?

Hang around for the love of god. The site needs interesting people.

You've got to phase one.

Next phase is break, name change, re engage, get upset,
Break, namechange, comeback on a limited term,
Break, name change, and pop in and out whenever you feel like it, start posting a lot in some weird subsection,
Break name change and post almost exclusively in weird outpost, with occasional lurking in old haunts, sending poms pms to old pals.

It is a public forum. People can join and post. Maybe there should be a members only area where people can feel secure and only speak to regulars.
Personally I like it when lots of people post, dilutes the cliqiness.
If a forum is upsetting you enough to post a thread seeking reassurance and sympathy, it may well be time to give it a rest.

pigletmania · 13/08/2013 12:04

No don't do, just keep your account give mumsnet a break for a month

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 13/08/2013 12:14

MaryZ, how many shopping days to go til xmas?

SconeInSixtySeconds · 13/08/2013 12:15

Beyond - that actually made me chortle, which I bloody needed.

I am turning off for today, that site stuff Fred is really getting to me.

UnitedZingDom · 13/08/2013 12:19

how many shopping days till Christmas??????

who cares? it's my BIRTHDAY next week!!! and the last one when I'm thirtysomething!

ComposHat · 13/08/2013 12:21

Yep Piglet, that's pretty much the plan! See how things are after about six weeks.

My 'farewell' post, was pretty much an attempt to highlight what appears to be happening to AIBU. Rather than the big 'farewell sweet mumsnetters I shall post no more.'

pigletmania · 13/08/2013 12:28

That's good Compos, teir are some great treads in AIbu, Tidydacers Bridezilla tread is on at te moment, there hve been some real classics. I ten to avoid the more controversial treads

FredFlintstonesSister · 13/08/2013 12:32

Having just read some of the thread posted by the ARRSE guy, commented on it, and been shot down by someone I assume must be a real MNer, I now feel really uncomfortable about having recently asked for advice on a very personal issue. I should really go away and do something else...

SconeInSixtySeconds · 13/08/2013 13:24

Fred, try not to worry. The very vast majority of people on here, whether male or female, are not arses.

Very sensitive/personal threads are best in subject specific areas- the traffic may be less but the responses will be more measured generally and more helpful.

am back as got email from hq saying that that Fred was being deleted, thank god

UnitedZingDom · 13/08/2013 13:35

I do have a nice arse though Grin
