To think Blackpool is a bit shit

Just came back from Blackpool and it was utter shit. Why haven't the council there made improvements and made it a decent place to visit?

There is hardly anywhere halfway reasonable to eat, it looks completely broken and unloved. There is just so much potential for development and it could be the "Orlando" of England. Instead, it's just shite.

I've come away thinking I don't need to take my children to Africa to appreciate what they've got: just take them to Blackpool.

On a good note, the beach is very nice. Shame about the drunks weeing all over the stairs to the beach and leaving beer cans everywhere. I saw broken Britain in Blackpool and I shall never go back again.

How the hell do you say Bispham? I can't say it without sounding pissed. Grin

AnnabelleLee · 23/07/2013 21:52

Bisp-ham.

AnnabelleLee · 23/07/2013 21:52

Or, more accurately in the local twang - Busp-em

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2013 21:53

I have just remembered I have been to somewhere worse than Blackpool

Limerick in Ireland

LeGavrOrf · 23/07/2013 21:53

Haha I still sound like Frank from Shameless.

LeGavrOrf · 23/07/2013 21:54

I have been to Lloret de Mar

marriedinwhiteagain · 23/07/2013 21:54

Been once. About 1990(ish). It was horrid.

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2013 21:55

Hmm

I know someone who went to Kavos once

Can you win by association? Grin

tanfastic · 23/07/2013 21:55

The town centre is terrible but its full of people not from Blackpool. Nobody I know goes out in Blackpool for a night out. Locals stay away or go out in Poulton, Lytham or St Annes.

I'm a southerner and love living here. The locals are some of the loveliest people I've met.

The stag and hen culture here lets the whole place down.

DIddled · 23/07/2013 21:55

I once went on a girls ( well they were all well over 40) night away- I knew them loosely through my husbands drinking buddies.Their behaviour and the sights I saw that night have scarred me for life. I would rather stick pins in my eyes than go back- it's utterly vile!!!

I returned home in time for Sunday lunch but the rest of them rolled up at eleven o'clock on the Sunday night- royally arseholed. I remember thinking ' hope they have got the kids school uniform ready for Monday'

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2013 21:57

What's the Blackpool Hilton like?

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2013 21:58

I think Hilton have sold it Sparkling

It is ok by Blackpool standards but very souless

The Imperial is actually very nice (Churchill once stayed there and it has a lot of period charm)

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2013 21:59

A quick google says I am wrong about the Hilton being sold. I thought I had heard that

It's clean and ok but nothing mega special.

tanfastic · 23/07/2013 21:59

My mum still says Bisfam. She's lived here 20 odd years Grin

MarmaladeTwatkins · 23/07/2013 22:00

LOLing at GetOrf's "Fuck Kent."

Fuck a whole county, eh? Impressive.

I think I would honestly cry if ever I had to return to Blackpool. The last time I went, it was on a grim hen weekend of a girl I didn't even like that much but all of my other mates were going. The rest of her mates were typical Yates's Wine Lodge guttermeat. You know the type. Three of them picked up some squaddies and brought them back to our delaightful B&B for some horizontal fun. One of them got crabs. Me and my other snobby friend sat holed up in our grim room, praying for morning to come without being bitten by the cat-sized cockroaches or having pervy Ken the landlord let himself into our room again to check the telly. :(

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2013 22:00

Strictly Come Dancing always have their week at Blackpool Tower Ballroom and everyone seems to like that. Confused

Sad at The Hilton being sold.

LeGavrOrf · 23/07/2013 22:00

I remember going to the Blackpool Hilton to watch a pool championship final (yes fucking really). It looks like a modern day Premier Inn in Hanger Lane.

tanfastic · 23/07/2013 22:01

The Imperial is ok, I got married there actually. Some of the rooms are tired though.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2013 22:01

at 'Pool Championship'. Riveting.

What's the Blackpool Hilton like?

Utterly shit. That is where I stayed. Allegedly it is the best hotel in Blackpool. If that is the case then I am truly very sorry.

Blackpool has a whole other frame of reference IMO.

ANormalOne · 23/07/2013 22:02

Go to Formby or Freshfields instead Ifancy best beaches ever and a red-squirrel forest.

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2013 22:03

Should the impulse to visit Blackpool ever overcome you stay here here or here

Out of Blackpool itself, very nice and only a tram ride away if you really think watching a 17 year old dressed as a sexy bee get roasted whilst vomiting in a shop doorway at 11am on a Monday morning will enhance your life

Cuddleswithcats · 23/07/2013 22:03

Tanfastic I live in Bispham too and I love it. I do avoid Blackpool town centre of an evening though Smile

MarmaladeTwatkins · 23/07/2013 22:03

"Guess who's just turned 40" it says under the third picture down.

Well I'll have to keep on guessing because I am sure as buggery that no fucker in THAT picture has seen 40 for over a decade.
