To think Blackpool is a bit shit

Just came back from Blackpool and it was utter shit. Why haven't the council there made improvements and made it a decent place to visit?

There is hardly anywhere halfway reasonable to eat, it looks completely broken and unloved. There is just so much potential for development and it could be the "Orlando" of England. Instead, it's just shite.

I've come away thinking I don't need to take my children to Africa to appreciate what they've got: just take them to Blackpool.

On a good note, the beach is very nice. Shame about the drunks weeing all over the stairs to the beach and leaving beer cans everywhere. I saw broken Britain in Blackpool and I shall never go back again.

How about a MN away day to Blackpool? Grin We can hire a bus.

Southport is great. We stopped at the Premier Inn and had a fab few days.

I've never been further north than Birmingham. Is Blackpool worse than Hull?

I agree Audrina, the Big One was scary on the way up and the first terrible plummet, but the rest of it was fun. The Grand National was sheer nail baiting terror and pain all the way round. I think the ricketiness made it ten times worse. Plus I had images of gory deaths a la Final Destination all the way round.

So glad I'm not the only one.

Utter shite!

Never again. Ever!

I am still recovering and my DCs are still thanking me for not spending a second night there. We forfeited our hotel hovel night just to come home. Frankly, I would have paid the hotel double to have not spent another night there.

The council for Blackpool should be ashamed.

It has been shit for as long as I can remember (I am 29)

I try to avoid the place as much as possible, but the zoo is a good day out and next week we are going to the sea life centre as DS wants to meet the Octonauts.

I don't think Southport is that nice though. They had done the pier quite nicely but that is a dump already. Its better than Blackpool but that doesn't take much!

The shops were nice in Southport IIRC and lots of places to eat. no good for beach though.

I think Chessington tried to recreate it with The Rattlesnake but it wasn't half as terrifying.

I have been to blackpool numerous times as both a child and an adult and have never seen drunken lager louts or people shagging on the beachHmm

As I said we stay on the outskirts and I wouldn't dream of taking my dcs into a pub in blackpool city centre at night_who would?

I hope none of you watched the 9.50 Sun holidays programme-your heads would probably implode at the shabbiness of the caravan sites.

LazyMonkey I totally agree, it used ot be a lot nicer, it's gone down hill. It seems that every time we get something nice, bloody Blackpool thieves it buys it off of us.

I did my teaching practice at a biiiig comprehensive in Blackpool. Baptism of fire. It was 12 years ago and it is still my mantra after a bad day 'It can never be as bad as Blackpool.' Sad

Some lovely lovely kids there too, just so much deprivation.

DH saw a pornography photo shoot on Blackpool Beach, near the tower. I don't think any shagging was going on, but I think that sort of thing happens under the piers.

Oh Pa Twatkins like a drink and no mistake, GetOrf! Just generally not bottles of Blue WKD served onto a sticky bar in a pub playing oonse oonse oonse music Grin

The one saving grace of Blackpool is Flamingos, the gay nightclub. I would have lived in there if I could. Grin

We went there in November overnight Sat/Sun when ds3's football team were playing there.

The hotel- [Norbreck] was shite, it pissed down whilst at the Pleasure Beach and the team lost.

However, it was a laugh, we had a terrific Italian meal and the memory of having to walk through the reception in our pj's to change rooms after complaining about the leaking roof in our room will hold a memory for years Grin

I live in Blackpool, and I have to say I love it. I grew up here, my parents had a B&B, and as a kid it was a fantastic place to live. I fell out of love with it when I was in my late teens/twenties asit just wasn't a cool place to be, no culture, horrendous in then town centre at night etc. However, now I have a four year old DS and once again I think its a great place to live. We live in a lovely area in South Shore, 5 minutes from the beach and the prom, lots of lovely parks nearby, St Anne's is 10 minutes away by car. There is always somewhere to take DS, even if it's only for a walk or a bike ride down the prom. We don't go out so much at night so the whole hen/stag thing doesn't affect us, and we know the good places to eat. I would rather live here than in a lot of places I have visited...I can walk to my local shops down the promenade (which has had a lot of money spent on it in the last few years) and in the summer time its just lovely. So there!

Ashoething that must be rare to have never seen a lager lout in Blackpool. We were there mid week during the day and some guy was vomiting at the pelican crossing. Weekends are full of stag and hen party's and plenty of drinking, not a family place at all as unfortunately the shops, tower, sea life etc are all placed amongst the pubs and clubs.

Well we're not talking about the naice outskirts, Ashoething.

We're talking about the seaside ghetto heaven that is Cackpool.

The only time I would go back there is if Benedict Cumberbatch was offering sex with any ladies brave enough to enter the town centre. And even then, only if he paid my train fare.

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2013 21:39

Benedict would implode if he had to enter Blackpool :(

I don't think he could take it

I had to go to Blackpool once. I won't go into the detail. In any event, you would have to persuade me that my children's lives were in peril to get me there for a second time. I have never ever been anywhere more soulless in my entire life. And I have been to Hull.
