to keep DD off school because she's knackered and it's going to be hot?

She's in reception and exhausted. They are also meant to be going for a walk and a picnic, forecast is for 31degs!!
Also think she could do with a bit of mummy time, last chance tomorrow when dd2 is at preschool!
I would present it as 'I'm not letting you go' not 'it's a treat'. and she may really want to go on the picnic anyway!

Yabu. She will enjoy the picnic and it's not a good idea to get children thinking that they can miss school because they are tired or because their mum feels like keeping them at home.

UnexpectedStepmum · 21/07/2013 21:02

Wouldn't have thought this is U. It's the end of term and sounds like they're on wind down so not missing anything educational; the picnic and walk won't be fun at her age if she's exhausted. Have mummy time and don't feel guilty!

YANBU

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 21/07/2013 21:09

YANBU :)

Xihha · 21/07/2013 21:09

its not unreasonable but my daughter would of been devastated if I hadn't let her go on the playschool end of term picnic last week so maybe check your daughter isn't really looking forward to it before keeping her off.

Bowlersarm · 21/07/2013 21:10

Surely she has about six weeks of 'mummy time' imminently?

BigBongTheory · 21/07/2013 21:11

Yanbu. And I say this as a teacher. I felt so sorry for my children last week. Some just can't cope.

PoppyWearer · 21/07/2013 21:11

Hmmm.

I can see where you're coming from, because my DC1 is also in Reception and is exhausted too. She's very ratty. We could really do without the next couple of days of school.

BUT there is fun stuff going on, so I'm going to send her in. Then give her a good couple of days of literally doing nothing so she can recover.

McNewPants2013 · 21/07/2013 21:16

She will be fine and the last few school days are mainly fun filled days.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/07/2013 21:17

Maybe you should keep her off cos it's the holidays and you've forgotten Wink

UnexpectedStepmum · 21/07/2013 21:18

Bowler OP has a DD2 so this is an opportunity for one-to-one mummy time.

RedPencils · 21/07/2013 21:19

Mine would hate me if I suggested missing a school trio to stay home with me.
It's all DVDs and games this week. Send her in.

BabyILoveYou · 21/07/2013 21:20

If she wants to go on the picnic I'd say send her, if she's completely and utterly fed up of school in this heat keep her off.

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/07/2013 21:20

When do the English schools break up?
It seems late.

opilo · 21/07/2013 21:21

YABU get her on the walk and picnic, there is nothing to prevent her going in.

RedPencils · 21/07/2013 21:21

Mine break up on Thursday.

hippoherostandinghere · 21/07/2013 21:48

English schools break up very late. When do they go back? Mine are into their 4th week off tomorrow (ni).

maja00 · 21/07/2013 21:50

Break up 3rd week of July, back 1st week of September usually.

McNewPants2013 · 21/07/2013 21:52

Ds finished school Friday as its teacher training tomorrow.

BarnYardCow · 21/07/2013 21:55

Yanbu, At that age I would not worry if they miss a day at the end of term, it is exceptionally hot, and I would rather keep an eye on their fluid intake on days like this.Mine have finished for the summer, and both Ds were tired and hot by the end of term.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 21/07/2013 22:00

Ours finished on the 19th July and go back 3rd September.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/07/2013 22:02

You are being completelyl unreasonable. Make her man up and face the last few days, rather than wimping out.

simpson · 21/07/2013 22:11

I decided mid week last week that if DD did not wake up early enough for school I was going to let her sleep in and just be late as she is struggling with tiredness and the heat.

However, she has woken up every morning on time so far Smile

Personally I would not let my DC have the whole day off unless ill.

She still has another 3 days to go Hmm

dementedma · 21/07/2013 22:13

Really late breaking up, no wonder she's knackered. Mine go back in 3 weeks - yay!

StuntGirl · 21/07/2013 22:23

YABU. She will enjoy the treats at school and then she has 6 whole weeks to recover and do nothing. Ample time for you to arrange some 'mummy time' if you desperately want too.
