to think dh could win a prize for weirdo of the year with his holiday packing checklist

northernlurker · 21/07/2013 20:30

Now this is partly my fault because years ago I downloaded the mumsnet holiday checklost and gave it to dh who then adapated and added to it but he's just given me this year's and it's Gone Too Far.

It has loads of useful stuff of things to do etc but it also now has a list of 'Things the cottage doesn't have' (we've stayed in the same place for the last few years), things you can't buy on Mull, things that are very expensive and (this is the really freakish bit) a list of what we used last year.
Apparently we need 12 toilet rolls, 1 jar of nutella, no more than 30 teabags (sic), 1/2 tub hot chocolate and 1/2 tub of marshmallows.

AIBU to declare this weird. He says he feels maligned and is sure you will all find it and him irresistibly wonderful.......

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2013 20:36

Well it's better than my DH' s:

Spare pants
Bike
Bike riding kit

BRS can deal with what the DC need, food, entertainment etc as long ad it doesn' t encroach on bike space.

TeenAndTween · 21/07/2013 20:37

12 toilet rolls?!

(Knowing what you used last year seems quite sensible to me ...)

ViviPru · 21/07/2013 20:38

Ooooo send him over here. This unashamed listism is making me a bit excitable. Is it all entered on a spreadsheet?

Justforlaughs · 21/07/2013 20:38

Assuming that you don't have a handy forklift truck to carry your luggage, I'd find a list like that a godsend. In all fairness, if it was a mum who did this everyone would be saying things like " I wish I was that organised"

yerwan · 21/07/2013 20:39

I think he's very sensible. My DH wouldn't think of a single practical thing to bring and spend the whole holiday moaning about missing stuff.

dramajustfollowsme · 21/07/2013 20:41

Love it! Is it colour coded?
Has he thought about the weather being much warmer this year?

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning · 21/07/2013 20:42

I love it, at least he won't complain like my dh tgat we are taking too much or to many Lou tools really 12?

ViviPru · 21/07/2013 20:43

Bike I asked DH to load the van last holiday. An HOUR later the bags and boxes were all still on the drive. He responded to my Hmm with "I have loaded the van!" And proudly gestured toward the 'ingenious' way he had engineered bolting the car roofrack bike racks to the floor of the van. Bah.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 21/07/2013 20:43

It is also simultaneously an Excel spreadsheet? ;)

northernlurker · 21/07/2013 20:44

It was on a spreadsheet but is now a word document stored on dropbox. It is no longer colour coded and dh is concerned that will disappoint you.......Hmm
Don't tell him he's sensible. I'll never hear the end of it.

It includes the salad spinner btw- and extra teatowels.

OP posts:
northernlurker · 21/07/2013 20:45

The weather won't be warmer on Mull. Waterproof trousers are on the list.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/07/2013 20:46

Yanbu - that is v weird.
Dp's packing list usually consists of a book, a sandwich bag with some teabags in, 2 pairs of pants, 2 t-shirts, a spare pair of jeans and/or shorts, and some socks.

coffeeinbed · 21/07/2013 20:46

only 30 tea bags?
That won't do.

Weirdo.

kinkyfuckery · 21/07/2013 20:51

Mumsnet Holiday Checklist?

where?

therumoursaretrue · 21/07/2013 20:52

I am a fan!
Although I don't think I would be quite so strict about 1/2 tubs and the like as surely that could vary if someone wants more hot chocolate this time!

DP is a nightmare with packing Hmm we are off on Tuesday and he has literally 2 shorts and 2 t shirts in yet claims to be packed. No towels, no sun cream, basically nothing.

ViviPru · 21/07/2013 20:52

I would go further than 'sensible' I'd say his behaviour is positively sage

pianodoodle · 21/07/2013 20:52

Ah I do love a good list :)

DH packs books, travel chess, and a phone charger. I do the rest.

youmeatsix · 21/07/2013 20:54

northernlurker? i officially "heart" your husband!

missrlr · 21/07/2013 20:55

He is wonderful to know all this but will he acquire all items and pack with military precision? If so happy days if not then he needs to finish the job

But yes colour code excel sheet would be most impressive

MyBoysAreFab · 21/07/2013 20:55

Ha ha my friends have just gone to Mull. I shall tell them to look out for a man knocking on their door and asking to borrow toilet roll and teabags!

I am very jealous of you, have been to Mull several times and absolutely love it!

MammaTJ · 21/07/2013 20:56

He sounds great, although do remind him factor in that someone may get diarrhoea and then you would need more loo rolls! Grin

BeckAndCall · 21/07/2013 20:57

Ahem, my DH has separate lists for 'skiing holiday', 'summer holiday' 'weekend at Center Parcs' and then a generic list for 'things to do to the house before we go' (eg put bolt on shed, put rubbish out etc).

I usually laugh at him but am then reminded I am the one who left the currency on the window sill as we drove away one year.....

I think your DH and my DH must be long lost cousins, at least, OP

apostropheuse · 21/07/2013 20:58

He sounds wonderful!

I will admit that I have lists for everything - and, yes, they're on Excel spreadsheets. I actually have lists within lists.

I love a good list.

You see. I can see the attraction of this. From the outside. From a position of having a dh who never lifts a finger to eve think about packing. But - and perhaps it's a big but... If I had a dh like this, I d want to may the recalcitrant teenager and mess with his mind (ie. surreptitiously take out 6 of the toilet rolls when he wasn t looking). I'd be begging him to chill. Never happy, see...
