to think dh could win a prize for weirdo of the year with his holiday packing checklist

Now this is partly my fault because years ago I downloaded the mumsnet holiday checklost and gave it to dh who then adapated and added to it but he's just given me this year's and it's Gone Too Far.

It has loads of useful stuff of things to do etc but it also now has a list of 'Things the cottage doesn't have' (we've stayed in the same place for the last few years), things you can't buy on Mull, things that are very expensive and (this is the really freakish bit) a list of what we used last year.
Apparently we need 12 toilet rolls, 1 jar of nutella, no more than 30 teabags (sic), 1/2 tub hot chocolate and 1/2 tub of marshmallows.

AIBU to declare this weird. He says he feels maligned and is sure you will all find it and him irresistibly wonderful.......

My DH think the fairies do the packing.

At a push, he might put out a few t-shirts/pants/shorts but seems to think I should be happy to spend all my holiday washing/ironing his meagre collection of clothes Confused this year we are travelling separately, he is going hand luggage only so I will (as usual) do all the packing.

SoniaGluck · 21/07/2013 21:20

Ignores all extraneous DH / packing stuff.

You're going to Mull, northernlurker? Envy

Have a wonderful time. Grin

TinaSurrey · 21/07/2013 21:21

Oh my god! I LOVE the laminated tick sheet for the journey.

LustyBusty · 21/07/2013 21:22

Blush can I share my packing list?
How many days am I going for? 7
Is it work/mums flat/other? mums flat
3x tshirt
1x other trouser
1x sandals
3x pants
3x bra
2x swimsuit
Toothbrush
Phone + charger
Kindle + charger
Tablet + charger
Passport
Debit card

Does it all fit in hand luggage bag? no
Remove items one by one till it does.

That's it.
Tho to be fair, I have access to a washing machine there. A work trip is as above but multiplied by 4 (I do "work wear" and "personal wear" every day, and tend to frequent hot countries!)

apostropheuse · 21/07/2013 21:24

Those Are We There Yet laminated maps are genius! I wish they'd been invented when my children were little.

Wow I'm very impressed by your DH. Maybe he could start a little travel organiser business on the side OP!

SarahAndFuck · 21/07/2013 21:25

Your DH is useful and practical. Treasure him forever! Smile

Turniptwirl · 21/07/2013 21:26

How can he not have a list for clothes?! I'm disappointed in him :-(

As long as he is happy to do the shopping and packing of all the stuff then let him get on with it and both of you enjoy!

I love a good list

Whereisegg · 21/07/2013 21:30

This is one of the best threads I've read yet, lots of snorts of laughter and I'm only annoyed I didn't have a cup of tea to hand.

The whole list post was actually laugh out loud funny!

northernlurker · 21/07/2013 21:32

Lusty - v important to remember all the chargers! Grin

Whereisegg - you try living with it Wink Grin

My DH calls me a weirdo for making lists in advance.

His contribution consists of, "have we packed..." "where did we put the..." and "fret not, DC, I'm sure Mummy has some wipes / tissues /painkillers/ water / Fabergé eggs in her bag..."

Badvoc · 21/07/2013 21:37

I think I might be a little bit in love with your dh northern Blush

AKissIsNotAContract · 21/07/2013 21:42

12 toilet rolls for 2 weeks Shock

northernlurker · 21/07/2013 21:44

badvoc - you'd better get in line. It seems lists are weirdly attarctive to quite a few mumsnetters. Perhaps it's as well that I don't get it. Two list lovers might reach critical mass and burn a hole through the planet's crust.......and never get to go on holiday because the lists take over.

I've bought a new bag for holiday.

McNewPants2013 · 21/07/2013 21:45

Your DH list is amazing.

northernlurker · 21/07/2013 21:46

Akiss - dh reports that the loo rolls were bought in th co-op in Tobermory and were smaller than average.

(I really am leaving him now. He either uses too much loo roll or measures them)

OP posts:
AKissIsNotAContract · 21/07/2013 22:02

The listing I could forgive, the loo roll measuring is just plain weird. LTB.

Turniptwirl · 21/07/2013 22:03

Your dh has provided much entertainment tonight OP! Measuring toilet rolls made me snort!

Fwiw my three person household used to order about 36 rolls a WEEK when I was a teen thanks to my sisters overuse of them so I've never been a good judge of normal loo roll usage!

kickassangel · 21/07/2013 22:12

hang on - has he allowed for the fact that your dc will each be 1 year older, and that they may consume MORE of things this year than last?

he should have some formula in the spreadsheet that takes last year's consumption, multiplies by the relevant factor, then gives the NEW quantity required for this year, with a small contingency allowance.

He may need 5/8 of a packet of marshmallows!

Badvoc · 21/07/2013 22:12

That would suit me fine northern!
We could roll around in a huge pile of lists and make spreadsheets....

AncientCrone · 21/07/2013 22:14

I am bookmarking that.

I compiled (and packed) a brilliant list of things with MN's help for our holiday this year. DH spent ten days wandering around our s/c home being surprised by things that looked exactly like things that we have at home.

I am distressed by you using 12 loo rolls but no more than 30 teabags though. That's all wrong :(

trixymalixy · 21/07/2013 22:23

DH sent me his packing list for our recent camping holiday.

Item no 1: Campervan

Just as well he wrote it down as otherwise we wouldn't have got there Hmm

dementedma · 21/07/2013 22:23

Your dh is completely anal and that list is insane! What is a worship folder?
Seriously, if a holiday takes that much planning is it actually worth it?

northernlurker · 21/07/2013 22:30

demented - dh is involved in the worship planning for our church and our holiday is an opportunity to read stuff and find new songs etc. Raid the Iona community bookshop and so on. We quite often plan our big Christmas carol service at least in part in August Grin

Kickass - dh likes your thinking.....

We took 2 year old dd on her first flight this year. 1 week in Spain. I packed ALL her stuff (clothes, toiletries, shoes etc) in my bag with my stuff and ALL her in flight stuff (nappies, wipes, snacks, books, toys) in my hand luggage. All Dp had to pack was his own stuff and I asked him to stick in a couple of spare toys for dd. Anyone normal would have considered taking toys that don't take up much room in the bags but offer good value entertainmment (puzzles, little dolls etc). When we got there he proudly pulled out a massive sack of megablocks AND a box of Lego as well as a tea set and football. And he wondered why his bag was so light and mine so frickin heavy.

WafflyVersatile · 21/07/2013 23:45

Is he in charge of executing the buying and packing too or are these essentially instrutions to you? This is relevant to my decision whether to steal him away from you or not.

I like that he must have made a little inventory before leaving the cottage last time.
