I'm the owner of a (2nd hand) bugaboo bee which we bought simply because it was the best for public transport, small and light. Since entering the world of babies we have received an unexpected amount of comment both snobby and reverse snobby (ooh a bugaboo, yummy mummy are we)! WTF! Anyone judge or judges in secret?

makeitup my DS is 7m and hers looked probably slightly older so I'd guess 9/10 months.

My DS tolerates his pram for a short period but then gets whiny and screamy. He hates being constrained in anything - his car seat, pram, jumperoo, sling, high chair - he's a bloody nightmare bless him.

My pram (uppababy) folds really easily - push a button, push handle down, pram folds down. Simple as really. It's light and soft to push and is good on different surfaces so it was a practicality choice for me. I do quite like the iCandy models but they were even more expensive than my vista so decided I didn't want to spend any more. Just hoping DS gets more tolerant of it as he gets older. He's getting bloody heavy now.

Paintyourbox · 14/07/2013 08:22

I have a Bugaboo (that we bought new) and drive an Audi Shock

I can't believe people get snobby over things like a pram! We bought it because it suited our needs and we could afford it. Why not? Same goes for the car.

Interesting that on MN it's acceptable to say "everyone with a Bugaboo is a twat" but not acceptable to say "all benefit claimants are scroungers"

Both are generalisations and both are wrong! Double standards perhaps?

DontmindifIdo · 14/07/2013 08:35

Kafri, the bugaboo with the side bit is the donkey, if you only need one seat you can put a basket in its place, which lets face it, if you have a double as you've got two close in age (rather than twins) most end up using the spare seat while oldest isn't in it for any reason as a glorified basket...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/07/2013 08:40

Baby Jogger City Mini GT. That is all. No other pushchair should exist and God knows I've tried them all!

PinkFondantFancy · 14/07/2013 08:44

YY paintyourbox - I completely agree. The inverse snobbery here is astounding sometimes.

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 14/07/2013 09:05

Kafri I'd have been open mouthed with shock!!!

I thought the basket on the Bugaboo Donkey was to put a newborn in-I thought it was a double. Blush

IceAddict · 14/07/2013 09:22

I had a second hand Jané with ds. Loved it but quite big. Bought second hand phil & teds when dd was born, hardly used it and swapped it for a £27 argos stroller when she was big enough. I didn't care which pram I had as long as it did the job and my baby was safe and comfy. I cant understand the fuss about prams they do not excite me in the slightest.

Sparklingbrook · 14/07/2013 09:43

I am old but 'Phil and Teds' just reminds me of 'Bill and Ted's' with Keanu Reeves. Grin

MummytoMog · 14/07/2013 09:47

The side basket is actually really useful! The Donkey in single isn't any wider than the iCandy Peach, which has those annoyingly wide back wheels (I discovered after I bought it). I fricking love the side basket. And you can fit a small child in it at a push. Or a dog.

When I had PFB DD, I lived just up from Shoreditch High Street. I had a Stokke xplory, and I absolutely loved it, but I walked everywhere and didn't have to get it on the tube much or in the car. It is amazing having the baby up high and close to you, the basket is great for shopping, it's very manoeuvrable but it is a big bugger and never fitted in my car very well. It's a bit of a Shoreditch pushchair IMO.

Sparklingbrook · 14/07/2013 09:49

I would shove the newborn in the basket in that case Mog. Grin

Can't wait to go out and about and do some pram spotting. I might get a little notebook and write them down like train spotters do.

BuntyCollocks · 14/07/2013 09:54

I have a stokke xplory, which was 2.6 DS's, and is now being used by 6 month dd. I adore it. On here, it gets a lot of 'its so fucking ugly' comments, on the street all I get is, 'how marvellous that she's so high up, isn't it lovely, and so clever!'

Tbh I don't give a shiny brass shit what someone does with their baby as long as it's not dangerous.

MrsFruitcake · 14/07/2013 10:24

I've had so many buggies over the years that I've lost count, but I really must say that generally, the more expensive one is, the more shite it'll be and having spend £600 on one and also £49 on one, I can tell you that they very best pushchair I ever had was a Britax Vigour 4+ which was £149 off Ebay new. Grin

NomDeClavier · 14/07/2013 10:28

I have a BJCM because it lies flat from birth, had a carrycot for when DS was tiny and the car seat fitted on AND it folds amazingly. It awed plane staff the first few times I flew with it. I also have slings for practicality when travelling, a huge Silver Cross carriage pram waiting for DC2 and my DB's (as in from when he was little) Maclaren at my parents. If I get a double (DS will be 2.8) I will get a BJCM double....it's just brilliantly practical. Couldn't give a fog about the brand name or the coat but I do have pram envy for nice looking ones, including the Bugaboo cam is carrycot mode, because if the BJCM has a flaw it's that it looks flimsy with just the carrycot.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/07/2013 10:32

I have a bugaboo bee and I love it. It's an easy to use, practical pram, which is why I bought it.

Pascha · 14/07/2013 10:35

I'm getting a Micralite Twofold tomorrow. I quite like that its very very ugly. Its nifty and that will do me.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 14/07/2013 10:36

at mummy friends. I don't have 'mummy friends', I have friends who happen to be mums. I don't like cupcakes or Cath Kidston either Wink

And at (paraphrased) "the only people who buy McLarens are people who've bought cheap and narsty fall apart buggies to start with".

Hmm Who knew that prams were such a contentious subject? Grin Crackers.

Sparklingbrook · 14/07/2013 10:38

Wait for me Alex I will come with you. My mind has been boggled by the world of prams in 2013. I had my DC just at the right time I think.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 14/07/2013 10:49

Come on Sparkling we'll go and eat cake away from this madness. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 14/07/2013 10:51

Yes let's Alex, at a cafe with no prams as I may start to look at them. Grin

OnTheNingNangNong · 14/07/2013 11:19

Bloody hell, pram snobbery, who knew?

I have a shitty Mothercare my 3. It's the weight of a Challenger II tank and is no where near as reliable. It's a good pram for the hill walking I do, but it's cheaply made crap.

Although I found the iCandy Apple a lot flimsier for double the price.

I do love my 7 year old Silver Cross stroller. It is amazing!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/07/2013 11:25

I learnt on mn that you shouldn't give a shit what prams people have, unless it's a bugaboo or iCandy, as obviously people only buy those for the name. One of the most stupid things I've read on here.

gotthemoononastick · 14/07/2013 11:33

You have seen nothing yet...we grannies show off and preen when we are allowed to push too!!I brought crowds out onto the pavement with our lovely Stokke, complete with umbrella and the precious one sitting chest high, being performance grand-parented!
