To ask advice on drastic pubic hair removal- how do you do it?

I realise it is not to everyone's taste, but I have decided that I would like to remove most of my pubic hair. I've read several threads in the subject, and I realise how controversial it is, but it's what I want to do.

I'm naturally pretty hairy, currently shave around sides, trim the rest.

I definitely want to remove everything 'underneath'; most, if not all of front, and I have a tricky 'between buttocks' bit to deal with.

I'm not sure whether to wax, shave or use cream- or maybe a combination.

I would really appreciate some advice from MNers who do this- what method do you use, how often do you do it, any other tips.

I shave I don't have it all off but it is quicker do it every few days in the bath I use the Gillette blue lady razors I have never had any itching or ingrown hairs I exfolliate (sp) even in the intimate areas

Totally agree with Malcolm - must be totally naive as I never knew this sort of thing went on, certainly it's not spoken of in my circle ! - was at an outdoor swimming pool yesterday and I must admit at looking quite closely at ladies in skimpy cut bikinis .

Also, Mumsnet threads are always filled with competitive busyness so who on earth has time for this faffing around?

Wax, but find the right waxer. Mine's been at it for decades, does the job in less than 10 minutes and it hardly hurts. Less experienced people have taken half an hour and it's been agony!

Go to a salon for a wax, but! Do some prep beforehand and make sure they do not "double-dip" the little lollipop sticks they use to apply the wax. I'm sure the chances of catching something gross are fairly slim, but there has been a documented rise of something molluscum (which sounds utterly gross) associated with salons that do not use one stick per application.

When I first had a wax, I went to a salon in Singapore whose strapline is about never double-dipping, and when I came back to the UK the woman in the salon was just using the same stick! Ugh. So now I check them out beforehand, and won't go to one that puts the same stick back in the same pot. If you're in London, you can try the Ministry of Waxing on Floral Street in Covent Garden - they are not cheap, but they are very, very good. All they do is waxing, so they've got a lot of experience.

I shave mine off. Once every two days I do a quick run over with the razor and regular shaving cream. Takes me about 5 minutes to shave legs, pubes and underarms in the shower because it's just maintenance once it's been done the first time. Easy (and cheap!).

I'm not having a dig- I just think it's such a shame that women feel they have to go through this- that they think that their adult woman's bodies are somehow not good enough.

Curlew, I agree - my baseline starting point for these kinds of decisions is that mother nature knows best.

But there is no possible way I would even consider going in a bathing suit with a hairy bikini line. Or hairy armpits. The campaign against women's body hair has been successful, at least in my mind.

OP has never said her body isn't good enough. She states she is aware it is a controversial topic to some and has decide this is what she wants to do. She asked for advice on how to do it. Being called silly and mad and told she'll look like a child or a plucked chicken is just femanazism at it's worst. A grown woman has made a decision about her own body, let's all deal with it.

Body Shop walnut scrub is great for keeping smooth after hair removal. Came back to add that and got sidetracked.

There has been no campaign against women's body hair! It's been something that has been happening for thousands of years. Sugaring is ancient Egyptian. Threading is ancient Indian.

In ancient Egypt hair was removed to prevent lice and you may have noticed that Ancient Greek art shows figures of men and women without pubic or armpit hair.

Most and many men also shave their beards and sideburns and don't keep long hair. Is this also done for them to retain a child's facial features?

I think it's ridiculous that a simple choice of removing or keeping body hair turns into a fight against women. Women are intelligent enough to make their own decisions. No one is being conditioned.

Lots of places will offer to permanently remove hair from your nether nooks and crannies by using laser treatment. Including, it transpires, my beauty therapist, who informed me of this fact while running her laser gun over my (facial) upper lip.

Apparently, the marvellous thing about these laser guns is the way they clean themselves. Mmmmm.

IMHO Veet is the easiest way to remove it all.

Only takes 10 mins, can be used on all my bits without irritation, can be done without making an appointment and best of all I don't have to bare my fanjo to anyone.

Hair does grow back quicker than waxing, but I am a pain fearing wimp.

You could try using Veet at first and see if you like the bare look or not. But you really cant use the Veet to get into those nooks and cranny's so you will have to shave them. Then if you like the feel of it, think of having it waxed.

Just a word of warning though - I don't know if they have changed the ingredients in Veet, but all of the varieties I have tried just don't work as well as they used to. It could be that, or I did find that after veeting for a while (few years) the hair has definitely grown out thicker and coarser (so it could be that the veet is the same, just cant handle my forest as well ).

I wax now (Hollywood) and would never consider shaving or Veeting again. You need to ask around, and if the waxing salon says they do Hollywood or Brazilians with strip wax THEN DONT GO THERE. You only want a place using hot wax - NO STRIPS! Strip wax is too harsh for the area and can end up with bruising.

Curlew, why do you think there is pressure for women to have to have it done. There is no pressure that I know of, its my body and I like it so I do it. The fact that my dh likes it too is just another benefit but I do it for me. Each to their own, if you don't like it, don't do it. Am wondering why you posted on the thread though if you are so anti.
