But that card isn't an example of gender discrimination, it could be described as promoting negative attitudes towards each gender but its not actually discriminatory.

I certainly don't think its harmful either.

TigOldBitties · 06/06/2013 21:21

sorry x post, am on phone.

CartwrightMiss · 06/06/2013 21:21

How is it "sexist"? Hmm

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 06/06/2013 21:22

At what point is the OP trying to force her opinions on others??! You said if you don't like it, don't buy it, well if you don't like the thread don't bloody read it. No one forced you to.

Helpyourself · 06/06/2013 21:25

Yuk.
I tore up a card and hid it once in a shop, unfortunately I can't remember what it was.

SirChenjin · 06/06/2013 21:25

You are equating your opinion about a puerile greeting card with the suffrage movements??! Really?!!

Aitch - seriously, it's a greetings card, nothing more. There are plenty of images on greetings cards of women and men, in all shapes and sizes, in all states of dress and undress. If you start banning greetings cards, or calling for the designers to be sacked, then you start getting into issues of censorsip and the prevention of free speech and choice. These images are not illegal, and so, whilst you might not like them, you really have to accept that there are other free thinkings adults who do, and they have just as right to a choice as you do.

Startail · 06/06/2013 21:26

I'm afraid I giggled and DDad and DH would too.

Not one for children to send to their Father's, I agree.

charitygirl · 06/06/2013 21:26

Lol at 'over thinking'. The ubiquitous cry of the moron. Apols for using our brains.

shewhowines · 06/06/2013 21:27

Sorry. I thought it was funny. I would possibly buy it for my dad. Blush

Ilovemyself · 06/06/2013 21:28

But why are the Chippendales for Wankers? Do you think it is sexist or is there some other reason? Sorry to be a little off post but I am honestly trying to understand the other point of view.

Thanks Flowers

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 21:29

oooh, a nice straw man line, love those. didn't actually equate suffrage with stationery but if it helps you to continue frothing, sirchenjin...

SirChenjin · 06/06/2013 21:31

I hardly think calling someone a moron is a good example of using one's brain.

SirChenjin · 06/06/2013 21:32

No frothing here Aitch - I'm not the one starting a thread calling for someone to be sacked

scarletsalt · 06/06/2013 21:32

Could someone pelase explain where gender discrimination comes into this? Since being on Mumsnet, my eyes have been open incredibly wide to feminism, sexism and the way it is ingrained in so many areas. But I still dont see how this card is an example of that.

Breasts are secondary sexual features. Like it or not, lots of men like them and are attracted to them. This card is making a joke about the fact that when a man sees an attractive woman, with a large pair of breasts, he may start concentrating somewhat heavily on the lady, rather than anything else going on around him or her. What is the problem?

scarletsalt · 06/06/2013 21:35

Oh charitygirl your use of the word moron is rather ironic. You obviously didnt see the thread the other day aobut offensive terms?

Birdsgottafly · 06/06/2013 21:35

I bought my BIL a card with a picture of a beautiful woman, in a bikini on the front, it said "see something you fancy". Inside she had golf clubs and it said something like "do you now see anything you fancy?"

I have seen something similar in different sports themed.

I could see a adult son buy his single dad (or not, if the don't like their StepMum) that card.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 21:37

so. depressing.

But he wouldn't be concentrating on the lady. He'd be concentrating on her boobs.
I'm sorry that in this day and age (it isn't still the 50s is it?) it's still considered amusing.

LackaDAISYcal · 06/06/2013 21:40

Gawd, I saw that in Paperchase today and ignored it. I didn't even get as far as the message inside. But my DC age between 4 and 11, so not an appropriate card for them to give.

As a jokey "no real occasion card" for my ever so slightly boob obsessed DH though, I might have considered it in our younger, child free days.

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/06/2013 21:45

It's awful Not because it is sexist. Not even because it manages to be sexist to both genders. But because it is just awful.

It is not creative. It is not artistic. It is not interesting in any way, so I cannot even use any interesting words to describe it. It is just awful and a failure for the company.Sad

TigOldBitties · 06/06/2013 21:45

I don't think its just men who wouldn't notice the handbag, I had to double check.

Its just a distraction picture based on the concept of men liking boobs, I've seen a similar sort of thing using different themes.

Birdsgottafly · 06/06/2013 21:55

"It is not creative. It is not artistic"

Neither are some people, it isn't illegal to have a "base" sense of humour.

"It is not interesting in any way"

It is to some people.

WarTime · 06/06/2013 21:59

Well it made me chuckle. I know at least one man in his 20s who would buy that for his dad. Agree not for los to give, but its not aimed at them.

Isn't the joke on the man? Its not even a picture of a real woman, I can't see anything offensive tbh
