Wow, big boobs so must be fake and not sure how she can stand upright comments are really bellow the belt, some women have big boobs. These comments suggest more about your personal views, stereotypes and predjudices than the card itself. Very shallow opinions.

ayahushca · 06/06/2013 04:25

It's not sexist though, it's just a smutty joke in what some would call the fine old British tradition. It's about as sexist and consequential as a "Kiss me quick" hat on Brighton pier in the 1920's. Just ignore it, it's harmless really.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 09:16

ah, yes, the 1920s... those glory days of gender equality.

Her bag is green.

FreudiansSlipper · 06/06/2013 09:25

Horrible card why would anyone want to but it

Ginformation · 06/06/2013 09:34

Horrid card.

And I find the casually accepting attitude of some posters depressing. The objectification of women is not funny or harmless.

Ilovemyself · 06/06/2013 09:34

No one has answered my comment/question of earlier.

People are attracted to the opposite sex ( or the same. - it doesn't matter ). Are these sort of cards based at either sex wrong? Are the Chippendales wrong? Are the comments on which doctor who is sexiest wrong.

(Observational) humour will always have someone who is the focal point. It doesn't have to be wrong. Otherwise we will end up living in a very unfunny world

Ilovemyself · 06/06/2013 09:36

Ginformation. Look at it the other way. It is actually offensive towards men. It says they can't see past boobs. I would think that more offensive than a pic of a big boobed women were the boobs are clothed.

ShadeofViolet · 06/06/2013 09:40

Why would anyone buy that for their Dad?

TigOldBitties · 06/06/2013 09:50

Ilovemyself I will answer your question but I'm probably not the right person to do so.

I agree observational humour will have a focal point and I think that being the butt of the joke every now and then does little harm at all.

I don't think this card is wrong or the chippendales are wrong (fucking hate doctor who and so that is always wrong) as long as you can see these things are jokes of for entertainment and aren't representative of your overall view if the opposite sex or your treatment of them. I might watch a Chippendale show (not massively my cup of tea but have once seen one) yet I wouldn't say I'm guilty of misandry or that I treat men badly.

Ilovemyself · 06/06/2013 09:53

Thanks tig. A sensible and balanced answer. Tbh I was expecting some flack as I normally word things in a way that brings distraction and chaos all around me.

Pressthatin · 06/06/2013 09:54

Looks cheap

ItsallFeegle · 06/06/2013 09:56

I think it's funny. Wink

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/06/2013 09:57

Would it be different if it was a hot bloke with a six pack/lunchbox and a similar question sent to a woman?

Ginformation · 06/06/2013 09:58

Ilove, yes I can see it from the male point of view. DP is offended by the card too. Just as much as I am offended by cards showing scantily clad men.

Glad to see that feminism has moved on in the last 4 decades.

TigOldBitties · 06/06/2013 09:59

Thanks, but bear in mind I'm not someone who was finding it unspeakable or awful in the first place. My opinion is probably pretty irrelevant.

I imagine my brother would buy that for my dad and we would all laugh and test each other with it. Clearly this would not be the case in some families.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 10:26

the thing is, re 'would it be okay if it was a man?' etc, it's not like we are starting from a position of gender equality. so it's a bit irrelevant, really. (although OBV it's all still sexist shite either way, and that does no-one any good).

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 06/06/2013 20:12

So, given that we're not starting from a position of gender equality - would it be ok if it were a man??

And what would you propose to do with every card of this nature, be it male or female?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 20:59

what do you mean, what do i intend to do about it? i've written a review (although they haven't put it up), put up this thread, and decided to become more involved in the everydaysexism project, because so many of the facile responses on here have convinced me that we have a looong, looooong way to go. is that okay by you? what are you doing about it?

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 06/06/2013 21:08

I'm doing nothing, because a)I don't think it's anything worth getting my knickers in a twist about, b)I don't believe in censorship, and c)I believe in letting adults choose what to spend their money on, providing it's not illegal.

OK?

Ilovemyself · 06/06/2013 21:14

Why are you offended by cards with scantily clad men? I think that there is nothing more beautiful than the female form and my wife feels the same about men ( and women, but that's a different thread).

Aitchtoo - are you of the opinion that women shouldn't go to see the Chippendales? It's not much different?

I fail to see where feminism and a picture of a women ( that actually takes the mickey out of men rather than women) have in common. If it said something about women should be in the kitchen or something like that I would understand, but it isn't.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 21:15

mmmmm. gender discrimination is illegal, though? and harmful? or is it all made okay by the existence of the chippendales?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 06/06/2013 21:15

oh yeah i absolutely 100% think that the chippendales are for wankers.

OP posts:
SkinnybitchWannabe · 06/06/2013 21:17

Its Green!!!!
Id buy it for my DH but my Dad would laugh if he saw it (and so would my Mum)

SirChenjin · 06/06/2013 21:17

Where exactly is the gender discrimination in a puerile greetings card from a legal POV? There is none. You are over-thinking this massively. If you don't like it, don't buy it, and stop trying to force your opinions on others.
