I'm sure this has been done to death but I have to get it off my chest, its really very trivial, but I have to vent.
Why do people insist on putting photos on FB when they are off havign such an amazing time on their hols?
Is it because they want the world to know how fab it is where they are?
Is it to show off ?
Is it because they are more interested in trying to demonstrate to everyone else how fab things are than actually enjoying how fab everythign is
Is it just that I'm not really as into FB as they are therefore its lost on me ?

Our wedding was pre-fb, and was lovely, church, manor house, did it all on the cheap by exploiting the chefs and waitresses I worked with, the chair and table rental company and the wine supplier.

Then I got steamingly drunk and passed out in my dress and veil, after opening a £300 bottle of champagne, which was a wedding gift from my co-workers

MyShoofly · 30/05/2013 21:08

Cosmosin got it in one on the first page: "Because they're sharing with their friends? Or are you one of those with 600 "people" as your "friends" who then bitch about them?"

You sound jealous OP. I actually like looking at my friends pictures.

Portofino · 30/05/2013 21:10

Me too Myshoo, they are my friends. I am genuinely interested in what they are up to, good, or bad.

Lizzylou · 30/05/2013 21:14

Ha ha Lissie!

My Mom was disgusted with me smoking marlboro lights in my rollers and drinking champagne in the hairdressers. Then in my dress, my Grandma was taught the Macarena by my co-workers and my bridesmaids had drinking competitions with any men who happened to pass by the bar. We came home to a few separations and some heartfelt apologies along the lines of apparently I was an absolute disgrace, I am so sorry. Thing was no one would have noticed as everyone was the same.
Exactly what I wanted, everyone feeling comfortable enough to let loose.
Everyone who separated is happier now anyway btw.

And I look forward to September's fb photos, mine will be August. Smile

ShellyBoobs · 30/05/2013 21:17

It's pathetic, really.

Pretty much the only reason anyone uses Facebollox is to show everyone how 'fab' they are. How clever their kids are. How great their life is.

It's obviously because they need to convince themselves of it due to insecurity.

Very sad indeed.

Arisbottle · 30/05/2013 21:18

Yes we are all pathetic and sad.

lissieloo · 30/05/2013 21:19

Lizzylou, I was an embassy no1 girl . I can't believe I got so wasted, my boss was in charge and kept my glass topped up all Fecking day. That said, everyone had a cracking time.

lissieloo · 30/05/2013 21:20

I use Facebook for scrabble.

firesideskirt · 30/05/2013 21:20

er... as that's what FB is for? it's a social network?
I like seeing what friends have been up to, if they want to share. I don't share much as I am paranoid about being seen as showing off. But generally I love a peek at other people's holidays, kids' achievements, etc.

MyShoofly · 30/05/2013 21:21

clearly *ShellyBoobs" missed the roughly 230 messages explaining why her why of thinking is flawed Hmm

Arisbottle · 30/05/2013 21:22

If one of my children does something I am proud of, I will post .

My FB is for my friends, they are happy for me

Spero · 30/05/2013 21:22

Shelley - I'm rubber, you're glue.

ShellyBoobs · 30/05/2013 21:26

clearly ShellyBoobs" missed the roughly 230 messages explaining why her why of thinking is flawed*

Hilarious! You can't explain to me that my way of thinking is flawed. It's like you trying to tell someone that they do like Marmite when in fact they don't.

It's opinion!

And mine is that Facebook is the work of the devil.

Lizzylou · 30/05/2013 21:31

Spero, am joining the girl crush queue for you!
I can see that if you are feeling down or vulnerable fb can sometimes be the wrong place, am itching to headtilt here, but honestly mostly its a snapshot of people's lives.
What they choose to show deffo, I untag any unflattering photos of me, of which there are many, so censored highlights.

Lissie, was/sometimes am a Marly lights girl as I am very obviously the west midlands version of Kate Moss. Or maybe I just ate her ?

Lizzylou · 30/05/2013 21:32

Shelly, I think everyone has different fb experiences depending on their fb friends.

Portofino · 30/05/2013 21:34

Do you have FB Shelley? My wall has articles my friend has written for the Huff Post, cakes my friends have made, links to interesting news items and feminist blogs, photos of my nephews and friends kids having fun in UK half term, links to the sheer hell a fellow mnetter is going through at the mo, some funny stuff, news of a new baby etc. it is clever and wonderful. Anyone who thinks it is the work of devil, well you are unlucky with your friends, or maybe not ready for this stuff. Very unfair to condemn it in this way though. Don't like it, don't use it. It's not compulsory.

Spero · 30/05/2013 21:38

Heeeeelllooo Lizzie!

Shelley, remember that opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to treat it with disdain when it is an opinion you hold without any or any sufficient consideration of the evidence before you.

lissieloo · 30/05/2013 21:40

Porto, mine is very, very similar.

Shelly, do you have FB?

Lizzylou · 30/05/2013 21:44

Ok, a scan down my fb newsfeed, new babies, amazing travels my Aunt is having, an athlete, lots of pithy witty comments, lots of different types of achievements from ww leaders to University exams, to beating cancer, gorgeous snaps of my beautiful neices and nephews...A wedding.

Nothing to fill me with rage. Why would it?

fromparistoberlin · 30/05/2013 21:45

they will get BURGLED

muppets, so some karma for OP

Spero · 30/05/2013 21:45

Now now, Shelley may never have turned on a computer before this evening but of course her opinion is just as valid and interesting as anyone else's.

lissieloo · 30/05/2013 21:48

there's currently a mners blog doing the rounds, her water has been contaminated, people are reading and sharing, hoping that someone will be able to help.

and, did I mention Scrabble?

Portofino · 30/05/2013 21:52

It is fair enough to say hat you personally don't like FB, is not for you, but

"Pretty much the only reason anyone uses Facebollox is to show everyone how 'fab' they are. How clever their kids are. How great their life is.

It's obviously because they need to convince themselves of it due to insecurity.

Very sad indeed."

Is really out of order.

limitedperiodonly · 30/05/2013 21:53

lissie people kept saying to me: 'You'll be far too busy to get drunk.' Rubbish. I've never been too busy to drink.

Portofino · 30/05/2013 21:53

Sounds a bit bitter to me.
