I'm sure this has been done to death but I have to get it off my chest, its really very trivial, but I have to vent.
Why do people insist on putting photos on FB when they are off havign such an amazing time on their hols?
Is it because they want the world to know how fab it is where they are?
Is it to show off ?
Is it because they are more interested in trying to demonstrate to everyone else how fab things are than actually enjoying how fab everythign is
Is it just that I'm not really as into FB as they are therefore its lost on me ?

It would take a few seconds to post "having a great night"

I love my friends dearly but could manage to stop gazing and guffawing with them to do something that takes a few seconds.

RamblingRosieLee · 29/05/2013 19:15

I have not read the whole thread.

I really like travel and photos, so I really enjoy seeing other peoples pics.

pictish · 29/05/2013 20:49

Well said Spero.

I tire dreadfully hearing about people's jealousies and criticisms over fb on here. If you don't like it...don't use it. Don't look on there, and complain about other people using it for what it was intended. It just makes you look bitter.

Spero · 29/05/2013 20:55

O god, I am getting involved in another Facebook thread. I need someone to come and take my iPad away. My daughter is doing something horrible to the dog and she needs to go to bed.

Callofthefishwife · 29/05/2013 20:58

I think people who are so negative about their "friends" sharing whats going on boils down to some kind of inferiority complex - sour grapes or the fact they have a load of randoms they dont give 2 shits about on their friends list.

Its hardly a shocking thing that people share such things on a social networking site - is it???

If it grates on you this much then perhaps you shouldnt be a facebooker.

WhiteBirdBlueSky · 29/05/2013 21:09

People have always enjoyed showing other people their holiday snaps.

I live abroad and use FB to keep in touch with amily and friends. Due to circumstances they are spread all over. I love photos. Holidays, new babies, cats, nice recipes, woolly hugs and creative knitting etc. isn't this want FB is for? Beats the "it's raining again" and islamaphobia . FB is as good, or as bad as the fiends you have there. I find that by being a bit discriminating, my FB wall is filled with genuinely intersting stuff.

usualsuspect · 29/05/2013 22:48

I did do a 'fucking rain' status today Grin

cleangreens · 29/05/2013 23:38

Love the smugness of people thinking how on earth could you possibly take a nanosecond photo on a phone and upload it to FB in another nanosecond when you could be savouring every single moment of joy with your friend/husband/child. Jeez it literally takes seconds you muppets.

I absolutely love the instant sharing of FB, something about knowing that xyz friend is watching the Wimbledon final at that very moment is somehow very exciting - a community feel to everything that you just wouldn't get if they showed you the photo in November (about as long as it used to take to bother getting a film developed Grin).

cleangreens · 29/05/2013 23:39

I would have 'liked' your rain status usualsuspect Smile

usualsuspect · 29/05/2013 23:44

No body else did, clean Grin

I clearly need better FB friends.

cleangreens · 29/05/2013 23:50

Awww the buggers - maybe we are just needy Grin!

marcopront · 30/05/2013 00:04

"they told 400 people they barely know that they wouldn't be around for 2 weeks

If you barely know them why are they 'friends' on FB?"

And why would these 400 people you barely know, know exactly where you live?

Is there any recorded case, where a burglar admits he or she knew the house occupants were away because of a Facebook update? I would have thought there were more efficient ways is checking if a house was empty.

DogCatDogCatDog · 30/05/2013 00:06

I would never post on my FB wall about going on holiday, nor would I upload photos onto FB during a holiday, only when I return. I do only have people as FB that I consider genuine friends, but people chat, and this is a small town where everyone knows everyone else. Possibly paranoid, but I prefer to do it that way. And I have recently heard of cases too where insurance firms were refusing to pay out for burglaries as the home owners had put that they were going on holiday on their FB wall.

I do love to see people's holiday photos on FB;they're one of my favourite types of photos to look through. However some people do take it to extremes. I had a woman on my FB who went to Florida last year and on her return uploaded 6 photo albums onto FB. I looked through a few but no way would I have sat and looked through all 6. There were 5 or 6 different photos of the same location/attraction/pose in some cases.

I really like seeing my friend's holidays pictures & loading them up onto FB is a fast & efficient way of doing it.

Then when they get back we can discuss the holiday in detail and having seen some/all of the pics gives me an insight into what it has been like Smile

FB is not for everyone, if it winds you up looking at others in far flung, exotic locations you know that you can hide their updates quite easily or just delete them if it's all too much.

Take it or leave it I say Grin

amandine07 · 30/05/2013 07:37

cleangreens I totally agree with everything that you have said!

I live that real-time update, knowing what a friend is doing at that particular moment whether it be the FA cup final or sunning it on a beach somewhere.

It would be a pretty fucked-up, bitter, unpleasant person who would skim through their photos thinking "Heh...heh...heh.. you can't fool me with you smiley holiday photos, you showy-offy twat...I know your marriage is going through a bad patch/you've just lost your job"

Well absolutely!

Yes to everything Lequeen said.

I have a got a little rattled by some of the things certain posters have said in here...how their minds work in relation to others, and their attitude therein.
If you have a problem with other people 'showing off' on fb by daring to post their best bits on a social networking site, intended for that very purpose, then that's what it is.You have the problem.

differentnameforthis · 30/05/2013 10:44

Because that is what fb is for?

Why do people insist on telling other what to post/when?

I agree with both Pictish and LaQueen here. Some people are just mean spirited.
Fingers crossed the South of France doesn't have freak weather and you get wall to wall sunshine LaQueen.
Ds is going with his mate and parents this year.
If I can afford a holiday, I have to have sun, that's what I'm paying for.

Mandy2003 · 30/05/2013 11:06

I've always thought it was pretty obvious why people post when they're out of the house/on holiday etc - so burglars can plan to rob their house!!

(Longtime FB refusenik family here!)
