I commute in and out of London daily. I am now very used to seeing women every morning applying a full face on their way to work. I don't do this myself as I like to do my prep in privacy at home.

But.. I am sat next to a young woman with a caked on face who has whipped out the baby wipes. She has wiped off all the make up (before wiping her face on her jumper the dirty moo!) and is now reapplying. The whole lot! With dirty hands! Why?

What do I not get here? Would I be unreasonable to ask her why she thinks this is ok? Am I being a judgey old cow?

Flossing is a tad more obscene than make up application though!! Surely?

crashdoll · 21/05/2013 22:21

I can't put on mascara without opening my mouth and going crosseyed, so would never put it on in public for fear of looking like a demented fish. Sad

VBisme · 21/05/2013 22:21

I agree flossing is disgusting, I wouldn't want someone plucking or dry shaving either.

But they aren't the same.

ExcuseTypos · 21/05/2013 22:22

I often readjust my lippy on the train. What's wrong with it?

I suppose it goes back to the days when "ladies had to make a visit to the little girls room, to powder their nose"

We aren't in the 1950s. If you want to put your make up on in full view of everyone - go ahead.

Wuxiapian · 21/05/2013 22:23

I wouldn't see the problem myself. In fact, I like watching people applying their make up.

She's not hurting you, OP. YABU.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:23

hierarchy of clarty behaviours in public
1.flossing
2.dry shaving
3.make up application

VBisme · 21/05/2013 22:25

You've missed plucking?

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:26

indeed some may apply their slap In public, and I remain of opinion it's common

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 22:26

Can I check about my sinus rinse kit

Yay or nay?

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:27

haha, yes rinse your sinus, change your tampon,do your make up
it's all rush rush these days, folks is so busy

VBisme · 21/05/2013 22:28

Grin Noel, I think you'd find people fascinated by that!

Lj8893 · 21/05/2013 22:30

What about nail painting?

Fingernails I mean, toenails is wrong!!

VBisme · 21/05/2013 22:32

Fingernail painting is usually quite smelly, so I wouldn't do that.

Hassled · 21/05/2013 22:32

Noel - if you rinsed your sinuses on my train I would be the gagging murderous she-witch bitch-slapping you :o.

C999875 · 21/05/2013 22:32

You'd be fed up with me as well. I carry all my make up with me everywhere I go. My mascara always stays on though but I always have to reapply my lip gloss. and foundation I also carry my nail varnish with me as well (in case it chips) along with nail files. I get ready in the morning like I am going for a night out. I am phobic about looking anything less that perfect. If I'd been on a train today I'd say it could have been me that you saw. xx

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:33

look let's have a carriage for mingers, they can rise, exfoliate, scrape, apply all way to work

Hassled · 21/05/2013 22:34

And if nail-painting isn't allowed, I don't think loud breathing should be allowed either. Fair's fair.

BigBlockSingsong · 21/05/2013 22:34

She maybe rushed for time? , yuk at dirty hands though. I will apply a bit of powder, mascara, gloss in public, who the hell cares? If anyone is sad enough to stare at me during, give them something to look at!

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:35

yes scrape and file the detritus from your fingernails,so you think you look groomed
it's soooo classy and considerate

Decoy · 21/05/2013 22:35

So what could she fit in on a longer journey? Home highlighter kit and fake tan perhaps?

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 22:36

I'm lying,Grin

I've never ever rinsed my sinuses (sinii?). I'm going to though, one day. When iim feeling brave

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:36

clearly not phobic about being gross on train
just vain

Hassled · 21/05/2013 22:38

Noel - I recommend it. Makes your ears pop in a strangely satisfying way. Gross as fuck though.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 22:38

I suggest a Cattle class type carriage all the scrapers, applicators, pluckers in one place

thebody · 21/05/2013 22:40

Scottish, my mothers all time put down is being 'commen' and I agree with you.

I have sat next to someone with a giant white pus spot though on the side if her nose which I really really wanted to squeeze.

It was agony not to leap on her and sort it out. Pure torture.
