I commute in and out of London daily. I am now very used to seeing women every morning applying a full face on their way to work. I don't do this myself as I like to do my prep in privacy at home.

But.. I am sat next to a young woman with a caked on face who has whipped out the baby wipes. She has wiped off all the make up (before wiping her face on her jumper the dirty moo!) and is now reapplying. The whole lot! With dirty hands! Why?

What do I not get here? Would I be unreasonable to ask her why she thinks this is ok? Am I being a judgey old cow?

It just irritates me in the same way that seeing "alot" written irritates me. It really doesn't bloody impact upon me. Christ on a bike!

reelingintheyears · 21/05/2013 21:33

It wouldn't bother me as long as it wasn't my jumper she was wiping her hands on.

Who cares?

Really?

Saski · 21/05/2013 21:33

I think it detracts from the mystery of a woman's makeup. I would never want anyone to know what I wear on my face.

It's also a bit look-at-me.

happybubblebrain · 21/05/2013 21:34

Crashdoll - I'm trying to think of my pet peeves now - errrm - no can't think of any - I must be a perfect person, thanks for spotting that.

The things that annoy me all tend to be pretty big and important.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:35

shall I explain the basic premise of mn to some of you?random discussion,we care
we are all engaged enough to rattle tattle a reply.spare me the sardonic why care
that's the point of a discussion forum, this topic, any topic gets us all battering out reply

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 21:37

Have any of you tried the YouTube make up videos btw? Seriously relaxing, I thoroughly recommend

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 21:38

Well in that case, I can say I don't care if someone puts their make up on, on a train.

I can say its not a big deal.

I'm not a bloody nodding dog who agrees with everyones petty peeves.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:39

sali something from times does vid on smoky eyes
that's wholly appropriate and yes I'll watch
applying in train is minging

Lj8893 · 21/05/2013 21:41

Wow some people must have such easy carefree life's if they are so bothered about a bit of make up being applied in public.

Dear god I hope they don't ever take a wander around the debenhams beauty department with all the make up trials and applications going on there! In full view shock horror!!!
And eyebrow threading!!! Shock

I don't commute anymore but when I used to be up at 5am to catch a 5.45am train my face and eyes were too sensitive at that time to be applying make up, therefore I would fairly often apply it on the train. But only when I was sat on my own, but purely because I didn't want weirdos like some of you lot staring at me.

crashdoll · 21/05/2013 21:42

You don't have to agree but neither do you have to question everyone for it. The make-up appliers on the train will never know it irritates me, so no harm done.

crashdoll · 21/05/2013 21:44

happy Sorry everything in my life is not as BIG and IMPORTANT as yours, although perhaps what you perceive to be important is petty and pathetic to me.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:44

make up application in beauty hall is wholly appropriate,it's designated retail area
applying slap on transport is minging, and it's not the designated area
bathroom in 5 minutes that's the ideal area

crashdoll · 21/05/2013 21:45

Oh seriously and fuck off with the "easy and carefree life" thing. You have no idea what people are going through.

TheCatcherInTheRye · 21/05/2013 21:45

I just thought, I doubt Kat Slater would apply her makeup in public actually. And it isn't common, by that I mean frequent, for anyone other than commuters to do this, is it?

HotCrossPun · 21/05/2013 21:46

It was on MN that I first learned dipping bread in soup was 'common,' and now this.

It must be quite stressful having impeccable manners, if normal everyday things wind you up so much. Confused

VBisme · 21/05/2013 21:47

I don't agree that it's poor time management, I can do whatever I choose to do on the commute to work. I organise my work appointments in the evening before I leave the office so I don't need to concern myself with that on the way.

I do my make on the way because then I get an extra 15 minutes sleep - excellent time management Grin

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 21:47

Right I've got to be honest, dipping your bread in your soup on the train is common as muck

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:48

I'm not wound up in least, just of opinion it's common

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 21:49

What about dunking biscuits in your coffee on the train.

Will that cause a fit of the vapours?

Lj8893 · 21/05/2013 21:50

Sorry I shouldn't have made the easy and carefree remark, I apologise.

I was just shocked that people were getting so worked up and seemed so offended by public make up applying, I personally don't see anything wrong with it but if I did I certainly (at this moment in time) have more important things to worry about.

But again I apologise.

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 21:51

Dunking biscuits?? FFS would these animals shave their balls on the train, would they eh? Eh?

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:51

if one can't manage time adequately need apply make up en route that's poor time management
15 min? I can do makeup in 5min

Pendipidy · 21/05/2013 21:52

I wish i had the balls to apply my make up in public ! I love to watch others do it and wonder how they aren't self conscious. I would be, i hardly dare touch up my lip gloss in case anyone could see me , let alone a trainful!

Hassled · 21/05/2013 21:52

As long as no one is blowing their nose and/or sniffing (yes, I know that makes no sense) on public transport I quite enjoy watching people do random shit. It's entertainment, just there for my benefit. And make-up application would be a learning opportunity for me.

VBisme · 21/05/2013 21:52

I think it's common (or a sign of too much to drink), to be unable to write a coherent sentence. Blush
