Champagne socialists The equivalent term in the US is "limousine liberals" (even socialists won't call themselves socialists in the US). I am more a Toyota Liberal.
I read several UK papers online (not daily but at least weekly) to keep up with what is happening in the UK and to see how US events are being reported in the UK: the Guardian, Independent, Telegraph, Scotsman and Herald (Glasgow), and of course the odd link to the Mail on mumsnet.
I am definitely middle class as that is the only class we have in the US.
On our last flight to the UK, as we were eating our breakfast about an hour from landing at Heathrow, the flight attendant started down the aisle handing out newspapers, loudly (she was American) asking "Guardian or Telegraph, Guardian or Telegraph?" just as a few minutes before she had asked "coffee or tea?" So one had to declare right there and then, although many people just said, "either will do."
Anyway, count me in if Yanks are allowed (using that word in the British sense as I am a Southerner.) I should also mention as an added credential that I somewhat attribute my leftie leanings to having been partly educated in Scotland.
