Me! And I'm a vegetarian!

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 08/05/2013 22:33

I need to be reassured that motherinferior is not Tim Lott.

cinnamontoast · 08/05/2013 22:34

Me, definitely me! Look at the sterling work the Guardian did on phone hacking. And it's the only paper to report in detail on the distressing impact of the welfare 'reforms' and the threat to the NHS.
An essential counterbalance to the overwhelmingly right-wing press (the Independent being an honourable exception).

MrsKoala · 08/05/2013 22:36

I'm a Guardian reader. Born nouveau riche but i am probably considered MC 'with an edge' now. I'm leftie in that i am a socialist, but definitely not woolly or 'liberal' in any way.

NorksAreMessy · 08/05/2013 22:37

Signing in.Lefty, Guardiany, peacenik here

After 25 years of marriage I am even hearing lovely lefty opinions coming from DH.... One day our votes won't cancel each other out...I still have a few more years yet

cinnamontoast · 08/05/2013 22:38

Lilymaid, I actually emailed Waitrose to complain about their choice of free papers. Said there should be a political balance. They just came out with some bland customer-satisfaction guff but I kept at it till they said what I wanted to hear to make me go away got the message.
The woman on the till said I was by no mean the only one to say I wouldn't touch the DM or DT with a bargepole.

NorksAreMessy · 08/05/2013 22:39

We shall overcome!
We shall overcome!
We shall overcome some daaaaaaaaaay!

Minifingers · 08/05/2013 22:43

Oh yes.

I'm an absolute Guardian reading wet bloody liberal. Out and proud. Grin

NorksAreMessy · 08/05/2013 22:48

...and I buy TheBigIssue

Don't read it, it's mostly awful, but I do buy it, sometimes twice for the same edition

Pleasesleep · 08/05/2013 22:48

Am I a bit late to the party?

Devora · 08/05/2013 22:58

OriginalSteamingNit, motherinferior is waaay cuter than Tim Lott.

And writes more interesting features, too.

Champagne socialists The equivalent term in the US is "limousine liberals" (even socialists won't call themselves socialists in the US). I am more a Toyota Liberal.

I read several UK papers online (not daily but at least weekly) to keep up with what is happening in the UK and to see how US events are being reported in the UK: the Guardian, Independent, Telegraph, Scotsman and Herald (Glasgow), and of course the odd link to the Mail on mumsnet.

I am definitely middle class as that is the only class we have in the US. Wink

On our last flight to the UK, as we were eating our breakfast about an hour from landing at Heathrow, the flight attendant started down the aisle handing out newspapers, loudly (she was American) asking "Guardian or Telegraph, Guardian or Telegraph?" just as a few minutes before she had asked "coffee or tea?" So one had to declare right there and then, although many people just said, "either will do."

Anyway, count me in if Yanks are allowed (using that word in the British sense as I am a Southerner.) I should also mention as an added credential that I somewhat attribute my leftie leanings to having been partly educated in Scotland. Smile

Paleodad · 09/05/2013 09:16

Guardian loving, sandal wearing (when It's warm!), bleeding hearted, beard sporting, post-modernist, unapologetic leftie.
Aaaaand kids have gone to school dressed in the colours of their favourite European member state today, to celebrate Europe Day.
How'dyer like THAT ukip!

bettycocker · 09/05/2013 09:54

Loving the guardian here. I am nouveau pauvre, so not sure where I fit class wise.

I shop at Waitrose, get immense joy from poncy eco friendly cleaning products and eat quinoa, pulses and grow a bit of fruit and veg. No stove, just a wood burner.

On the other hand, I drive an old banger, go on holiday to France twice a year and have no solar panels.

I don't exactly enjoy a comfortable middle class lifestyle.

Amrapaali · 09/05/2013 10:18

10 pages!! Warms my heart to see so many of us. With all the right-wing crap being spouted at the moment, I was beginning to despair...

NKffffffffabeee2d7X127640abcce · 09/05/2013 12:02

Me too! The MNers are organising - be afraid, Mr. Cameron, be very afraid!

motherinferior · 09/05/2013 13:48

No, I'm much less sorry for myself. ANd wear better jumpers.

BIWI · 09/05/2013 13:52

Guardian-reading, card-carrying member of the Labour Party.

ProveYourLoveToMe · 09/05/2013 13:52

Hello comrades.

EauRouge · 09/05/2013 13:57

I'm so glad there are more of us. I'm the only pinko in a very UKIP-y village.

What now, do we form some sort of resistance?

bettycocker · 09/05/2013 14:02

EauRouge, I know how you feel. My local council is now UKIP. MIL stayed at the weekend she was singing UKIP's praises.

It's pretty disturbing.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 09/05/2013 14:05

We have a UKIP councillor too. I was not pleased.

Absy · 09/05/2013 14:09

I'm leftie liberal, but refuse to read the f*cking grauniad as 1) they're a bit loose on checking facts and 2) they're a bit loose on checking grammar/punctuation etc.

I read the NYTimes instead.

Thingymajigs · 09/05/2013 14:14

Guardian reader, leftie but not middle class as we don't earn enough. I have always enjoyed the Guardian but I stopped checking the app a couple of weeks ago when it became oddly obsessed with Gwyneth Paltrow. Hmm
