In a shop with my ds looking at baby stuff and a mum comes in with her two dcs, one in a buggy, another in a sling.

The child in the sling looked about 5!

He was that tall that when she knelt down to pick something out of the buggy his feet touched the floor and he jumped up which made him bang his head on her chin I had to turn away or I might've laughed
I may sound like a cow but I smiled at her when she first came in and she just sneered at me before launching into loud parenting.

Maybe he has a reason for needing to be carried? How would she manage one in a pushchair and one in a wheelchair?

Just because he can walk fine for short distances doesn't mean that he's fine for walking always. Don't judge.

I know people who have children who can't walk long distances for various reasons and will put them in the buggy and they get very upset at the number of "helpful" comments along the lines of "you're too big for that..." They would love for their child to be able to walk.

My child is a tall 4yo whom I still carry on my back African-style from time to time shrug Keeps him calm, I have both my hands free to do whatever, I can walk at my own pace etc etc. I get sneery comments/looks all the time but (to be perfectly frank) don't really give a shit

I've had a baby in a pushchair and a 5 year old in a sling before, usually if the 5 year old had already walked a long way and wad tired, or if she wasn't feeling well. Do you laugh at 5 year olds on a parent's shoulders, too?

Maybe he wasn't as.old as you think. I know a boy who is 2.4 years and has to wear 4 yr olds trousers he is so tall.

How old was the one in the buggy? Ds3 is just two but the size of a 4 year old, no way could I carry him around in my front

It's a bit of an odd thing to be exercised about OP. What harm does it do anybody - and respect to mum's back if she could do that! Would it be true to say you took agin her because of the loud parenting? Tell us more about that.......

I just think there must be easier ways, baby in sling, buggy board etc but each to their own.

Whether the child had any mobility issues or not is a red herring here. The mother has done herself no favours by showing the general lack of common sense to have an obviously too large for it child carried in the front rather than at her back. Doing it this way round as the Op stated hampered her movement, must have strained her back and brings to mind thoughts of mummy martyrdom (especially when coupled with the loud parenting).

Just what I was going to say IamNot - fine, carry your older child, but surely the back is much easier than the front?

So, MN experts I have a 2.5 yo who is growing out of 4 yo clothes. She is 35+ pounds. I was thinking of a hip seat. She can walk miles but I have to carry her sometimes and my back is destroyed. Hip seat or other method?
