AIBU - No sweets or squash

AIBU to not serve squash or give out sweets at a children's party?

Just wondering what parents would think of going to a children's party where there was only water to drink and just birthday cake to take home. For us that would be normal and I wouldn't think anything of it but just wondering if parents would be surprised at not seeing squash or sweets?

Fizzy water strips tooth enamel.

BBQ cooking animal protein adds carcinogens to the meat.

Pick your battles.

Jewcy · 02/05/2013 12:47

iiiiiiiiiiiiiietc,etc.., this thread is clearly no longer about the op and you know it. You just don't like the fact that some of us are now having fun at the expense of middle-class paranoid dullards.

Jewcy · 02/05/2013 12:49

notso, not as nice as moi. I've PM'd the OP and invited her to Dwayne's riot party on our council estate in July. She says she's busy for the next six years..

Dear notso,

You are cordially invited to a squash-and-sweets-only party at my council gaff on the Shadsworth Estate, Manchester. Please bring Frosty Jacks 3-litre bottles of cider (for the teenagers) and Tennants Super for the adults. You advise you to come armed as it's rough as fuck round 'ere.

Jewcy · 02/05/2013 13:25

*'I' advise you, obvs.

EasterHoliday · 02/05/2013 13:33

I'd hate to see what Jewcy's like when she comes down with her sugar crash after all this ranting

notso · 02/05/2013 13:49

Dear Dwayne & Tyrone's mum,
Alfred would be delighted to attend your little soiree. Unfortunately he has an intolerance to cider, so will be bringing an ounce of organic skunk. Do look out for me at pick up time, I'll be wearing Boden and clutching my pearls. Kindest regards,
Alfred's Mamma

My thoughts exactly. They will like water eventually or milk if that is only option!

or they will refuse everything and become dehydrated.

Its strange but when illness has led to my son becoming dehydrated/at risk of dehydration no doctor or nurse has ever said "you must only give water or milk" infact they actively encourage any fluids!

Bunbaker · 02/05/2013 14:09

I know a couple of children who don't enjoy drinking water. One of them gets headaches because she becomes dehydrated when only water is on offer, the other one gets constipation because she won't drink water even if she is thirsty.

DD drinks lots of water. She also drinks other things as well. She has good teeth and is not overweight or diabetic. It is all about balance.

I still think that water or milk at a party is a bit "worthy" and not very celebratory.

CheerfulYank · 02/05/2013 14:36

Pmsl at Dawayne and Tyrone's mum. :o

At DS's last party we did mini pizzas, fruit, crisps, juice boxes and little water bottles. No candy or anything but there was a dessert table with cupcakes and cookies and cake pops. No squash as we've established we don't have it in America. Wink

Most parties seem to be like this here.

Jewcy · 02/05/2013 15:27

Dear notso,

What the fucking hell is a sworray? I won't be meeting you at pick-up as Dwayne and Tyrone probably won't be at school. You'll have to drop Alfred off in your car. Please don't be offended if your wheels get nicked when you come to a standstill. Oh, and bring Alfred's flipflops as there'll probably be broken glass in the paddling pool.

Thats all very well Mamab30 but milk contains more sugar than a lot of squashes & pop - that info came from our Dentist when I. as a DM like yourself serving DD only natural, non processed foods & no sweets, pop or squash - was tearing my hair out trying to understand why my DD who had never ever had squash, pop, chocolates or sweets had to have a tooth removed at only 2 years old

SamuelWestsMistress · 03/05/2013 12:17

Odd just odd odd odd odd.

StealthOfficialCrispTester · 03/05/2013 12:40

Op what are your reasons then? You mention wanting to be different.
