AIBU?

To be shocked at Game of Thrones - it's very rude!

I just got a copy of series 1 of Game of Thrones from a mate.

It's very rude. It's like Lord of the Rings, only with tits and incest. I had heard about it and thought DS 14 would enjoy something like that. After watching it myself, I think he would enjoy it a little too much.

I think it's fab, but I haven't seen any other TV series that feature so much full frontal nudity. It even has willies!

AIBU to be totally shocked at how rude it is?

Fargo, he's allowed them to change the stories around, add in sexual relationships that weren't there and basically (at times) allow the nudity and sex to get ahead of the story-lines themselves. I think the stories are fantastic without the need for the constant, in your face, 'look, boobs!' going on most weeks. It's tiresome. But that's HBO - look at The Tudors? Historical accuracy, my bottom!

I do still love Game of Thrones though, love seeing the world and the characters brought to life.

Avril, the incest aspect is sadly quite representative of how ruling families in RL have inter-married for centuries. At one stage, several hundred years ago, the Spanish Royal family almost interbred themselves out of existence! Our law that allow cousins to marry exists so that our Royal family can inter-marry: Queen Victoria and Albert were cousins, for example.

I resisted watching GOT for so long as I'm generally not into the fantsy genre. But it's just so good. Managed to watch series 1 in a couple of days and got a bit ragey when I realised I'd watched the last episode.

I've been debating weather to watch GOT. It's been getting rave reviews. Apart from the nakedness is the storyline any good?

Karma - the storyline is fantastic! But PLEASE read the books first - they don't get much better. Great casting (for the most part) and just so well done. Watch it, watch it, watch it!

Sorry to question this, but what's the deal with everyone fancying Jon Snow? He has ONE facial expression - miserable. And he looks beyond feminine! I don't get it. In fact, given the abundance of male leads I'm shocked that I don't find even one of the cast remotely attractive. Tyrion, at a push, maybe...

Worriedmummy what relationships do you mean? Ok it's ages since I read books 1 & 2 but I actually remember cersei shagging around a lot more (and others but they might be spoilery)

I get what you mean re Margery, but I always actually viewed her as George's version of Anne what with the manipulation etc. hbo have sexed it up a bit and made things like renly being gay way more in your face but then that's hbo. Plus he toned down a lot in writing it as rob, dany etc were about 15 in the books.

But then I'm a dirty minded cow so maybe I picked up more.

WorriedMummy, will order the first book on my kindle now - cheers!

Twink - I think it was the Maergery/Renly/Loras thing that really did it for me. I've re-read the books recently and at no point did she offer herself up like that. But then, books are open to personal interpretation, so maybe I've mis-read some of it. I just think it's HBO doing their usual 'better get the nudity in for the lads' bit. My youngest DB is a big fan of Rome and Game of Thrones - all for the naked women (although he won't admit it).

And you make a good point about the age of the younger characters in the books - Sansa definitely looks a lot older than around 15 in series 3. And there's no way on this earth that Robb looks around 17 - more like 27. Same for Jon Snow.

WorriedMummy Yes I've noticed that Jon Snow's 'range' is somewhat, ummmmm, limited. It's either 'They killed ma fatha' or 'I'm a bast'd'. But the tumbling curls/melancholy eyes/fur cloak ratio just does something to me. I certainly wouldn't mind keeping him warm on that wall.

But as I said previsouly my one true GOT love is Bronn. He would most definitely know exactly what to do.

Karma - delighted to hear that! Let me know what you think. Much as I love the show, I love the books even more.

I'm still getting over Bronn being Jerome Flynn! Before this he was the dog's voice in Tommy Zoom on CBeebies - bit of a jump!

And nope, don't see the Jon Snow thing. Maybe it's because I'm aware of how old he's meant to be. Eeeewwwwwww.

I didn't realise he was meant to be 17 is Series 1! I feel a bit sullied now.

Yeah that Margery/renly/loras thing was ripped totally from mists of avalon. But then he was never a pov character so who knows. I think she was capable of saying it. Anything to cement her as queen iykwim

Squoosh - I think he's around 17 in series 3! so that would make him around 15 in series 1? I may have to check my books, but I'm fairly certain the youngsters are a lot younger than they actually look in the show...

But they may have tampered with that in order to add in the eye candy and make it more appealing to women. Otherwise, we'd have Tree Fu Tom playing Robb Confused

OxfordBags No, it's very sparse on doggy-style action!

We always have a little snigger at poor old Jerome. He's bloody hot though.

Poor Alfie Allen being tortured - he's never looked better. Oh dear, linked with my Ralph Fiennes/Amon Geoth confession on another thread, I'm not looking good. Blush

In order of hotness then:

Alfie Allen
Jerome
Ian Glenn

Am I the only one who thinks that Alfie Allen was perfect for Theon simply because I can't stand either of them? It made it so much easier to loathe Theon when I feel the same about the 'actor'.

Jon is 15, as is dany in book one as Robert has been on the throne 15 years... And they are the 'eldest'. Arya is like 11. George in hindsight wished he'd made them older so that's what hbo did.

'Jon Snooow' (always read that in Ygritte's voice) [sp?]

I never ever thought GoT would be my thing.. then my good friend made me watch season one.. I LOVE it! shortly after that we got together and he is now my DP (connected??!)

I would love to read the books but do you think seeing the TV show first has ruined it?

Report
WorriedMummy73 · 10/04/2013 14:16

Ladyjadie - definitely read the books! You know there's only a contract for four series of Game of Thrones, right? So they may only make the first four books! You'd never know how it ends...

Although, George R R Martin takes so long to write each book that there's a good chance he'll pop his clogs before he finishes the damned series himself. Happened with my other favourite (Robert Jordan) and his Wheel of Time series. Someone else has had to finish the series for him Confused
