To be shocked at Game of Thrones - it's very rude!

I just got a copy of series 1 of Game of Thrones from a mate.

It's very rude. It's like Lord of the Rings, only with tits and incest. I had heard about it and thought DS 14 would enjoy something like that. After watching it myself, I think he would enjoy it a little too much.

I think it's fab, but I haven't seen any other TV series that feature so much full frontal nudity. It even has willies!

AIBU to be totally shocked at how rude it is?

IIRC, Jon might be slightly older than Robb by a few months, but they were both around 15 at the start.

WorriedMummy73 · 10/04/2013 15:07

Hmmmmm. Maybe it's just that I don't notice it so much in the books because I've become so used to it now. Strange. It doesn't bother me in the books. All the torture, on the other hand...

And some of the monstrous men and their behaviour towards some of the female characters. An example that has already come up in the show is when Joffrey had Sansa beaten by the Kingsguard. Still makes me shudder...

WorriedMummy73 · 10/04/2013 15:10

I promise to give no more spoilers. I've done that to myself! Turned to the last page of a James Patterson book to see how many pages it was, the text went all down the page, found out who the murderer was...

AAAAAAAND. I read an interview with Kiefer Sutherland before series 2 of 24 started. Was halfway through box set of series 1 at the time. Interviewer; 'so, your character's wife died at the end of series 1...'. Me: 'fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...!!!'

Startail · 10/04/2013 15:10

DD read the book when she was 14 (it walked from the sixth form only shelves, she's not the best behaved librarian).

She wants the videos, I said no.

They are an 18 and while, I suspect they won't shock her at all, her younger sister is not watching them.

CousinRachel · 10/04/2013 15:11

Xiaoxionq my keyboard is now teasplattered I ove it.

Have nearly finished the 5th book and agree all the sex is part of it, any extra bits shown probably make up for other sexual scenes that have been omitted. It can't all be fitted in

Much prefer Robb Stark to Jon Snow, Bronn too though Grin and Khal Drogo and a bit of Jaime Lannister...

CousinRachel · 10/04/2013 15:12

'love' it

ladyjadie · 10/04/2013 15:13

Ahahah Worried poor you. When I clicked on this site it was just a GIF of like seven characters flashing up with DEAD! DEAD! DEAD! UNDEAD! under each of them. Definitely a fuuuuuu moment!

And also I hated the bit when Tyrion had the two whores sent to Joffrey to 'lighten him up'. Probably the only bit I found actually disturbing.

WorriedMummy73 · 10/04/2013 15:14

Crikey I've carried my books everywhere with me and read them in M&S cafe at times! No wonder there were old dears fainting everywhere...

ladyjadie · 10/04/2013 15:15

*snort at 'fitted in'

WorriedMummy73 · 10/04/2013 15:15

Because I do love a nice slice of carrot cake and vanilla latte with my attempted rape/torture...

Xiaoxiong · 10/04/2013 15:15

worried the fucking really doesn't bother me at all and in fact I rather enjoy it because it's so much more pleasant than reading about a) maiming, b) torture or c) being cold/wet/muddy. When the action moved to hot and sandy Dorne for a bit it was like going on a beach holiday.

riskit4abiskit · 10/04/2013 16:06

God I love this show! I would actually die of excitement if I saw a jon show Willy!

Tyrion is also amazing, just like I imagined.

Wish we saw more of the white walkers, they're so scary, but it's all about the political shenanigans and boobage.

Can't wait for the next book!

bettycocker · 10/04/2013 16:10

I'd quite like to see Tyrion's willy and a Jon Snow gay scene. Grin

If you think the TV series is explicit you should try reading the books Grin

YouTheCat · 10/04/2013 16:17

Okay. I have started book 1. Up to Arya's first chapter. It is rather better than I thought it would be. Grin

WorriedMummy73 · 10/04/2013 16:20

Such brilliant books. I love how they can still shock me. I remember when I first read about Jaime casually shoving Bran of the window ledge. I actually carried on into the next chapter before I went 'hang on, wtf just happened?'. Had to go back and read it again.

Yep, there are some bigger shocks a-coming in the show...

YouTheCat · 10/04/2013 16:40

I've just read that bit.

Lovecat · 10/04/2013 17:24

YY WorriedMummy re. not getting too attached to anyone - my cousin's partner got a part in it without having ever read or heard of the books - when he found out my brother had them all to date (hurry up Martin!) he was anxiously quizzing him about his character's fate, as everyone around him was dying like flies and he wanted to know if he'd soon be out of a job or not!

I don't think we've seen his cock onscreen but we may have seen his arse...

squoosh · 10/04/2013 17:26

Oh LoveCat who is it? Puh-lease tell me!

(wonders if it's Bronn)

(wipes drool)

Lovecat · 10/04/2013 17:29

Sadly not :o

He's quite a minor character, was barely in season 2 (but apparently is back in S3)

Pypar

YouTheCat · 10/04/2013 17:29

Need to know who. Grin

Well Tyrion and Snow are on their way to the Wall now and I'm having a break for coffee.

YouTheCat · 10/04/2013 17:29

Ooh I remember him. Excellent!

squoosh · 10/04/2013 17:32

How cool, I remember him! He started out a bit rough but then turned quite nice under the guidance of shiny headed Jon Snow.

Empress77 · 10/04/2013 17:42

Best thing about GoT is the names....so many awesome ones Id love to steal for my baby when it comes.....Arya/Sansa/Tyrion/Bran......George Martin defo had good naming skills.....but dh thinks itll be too GoT-y......oh the dilemmas!

Bue · 10/04/2013 17:43

I've simultaneously started the book and the show (the novel is filling in a lot of details I had missed!). The feminist in me was so Shock at the general treatment of the women in the first two episodes that I had to check with my sister if it was worth continuing! She assured me the women become kick ass so I am sticking with it!
