AIBU?

To be shocked at Game of Thrones - it's very rude!

I just got a copy of series 1 of Game of Thrones from a mate.

It's very rude. It's like Lord of the Rings, only with tits and incest. I had heard about it and thought DS 14 would enjoy something like that. After watching it myself, I think he would enjoy it a little too much.

I think it's fab, but I haven't seen any other TV series that feature so much full frontal nudity. It even has willies!

AIBU to be totally shocked at how rude it is?

Jon does not look like Robert. He and Arya look most like Ned. Lyanna had the look of a Stark, too - brown hair and grey eyes.

I thought he might be the son of Robert and Ned's sister and that was why he took him to raise as his own. Not just your general garden variety bastard.

If you think Game of Thrones is bad, you definitely shouldn't watch Spartacus Wink

I've only managed the prologue of book 2 as the print is bloody tiny and I'm on my 3rd glass of wine. Grin

Game of thrones is shown on HBO in the U.S and is only available to subscribers, it is rated TV-MA, for mature audiences and not recommended for children under seventeen.

I'm going to be a real kiljoy and say I feel sad about just how explicit it is.

I like sex scenes in films, I really do, but the feminist in me just feels dismay that increasingly in showing so much graphic detail, actresses in general are going to have more pressure on them to be filmed like this. If you watch the recent utterly crap production of Labyrinth, it was the same, full nudity, graphic sex scenes. I just don't want that to become the norm and for actresses to feel like the only way to get parts is to let themselves be filmed doing this even if they're not entirely comfortable with it. I know in Series one there was one shot of a man nude too, but then the same goes for men, a great actor should be able to get a part even if they don't want to be filmed taking part in a graphic sex scene. But then I dislike how sexualised everything in general has become. I feel really sad for girls with how they have so much pressure to be sexually active early, take explicit photographs of themselves and generally be made to feel inadequate if they aren't sexy enough.

/Totally ruins thread.

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying GoT, I need to read the books.

moisturiser - feel the same as you. I'm not comfortable with all the female nudity, especially some of the bordello scenes. seems nearly every female character has has to get their kit off apart from Aria, Catelyn and Sanza - two of whom are child characters. loving the show but it is very one sided.

Bloody hell, talk about spoilers!!!!! That will teach me for coming in here when I'm not all the way through the series yet Sad

And moisturiser, I also agree. I didn't enjoy Drogo and Dany's wedding night but found it realistic and relevant to the plot. It's all the bloody brothel scenes I could really do without - most of them are gratuitous and do nothing to move the story along.

I actually agree with you moisturiser. I also felt feminist stirings whilst watching it, but it's a good story.

so men don't get naked in brothels or when they are having sex?

Theon and Hodor have both had their bits out.

I saw an interview with GRRM and he said all the characters ages had to be put up by four years so they could stick to the storylines. They can't legally show a 13yo character having sex (agree they made it look non consensual when it was not in the book) even though the actress is older than that, apparently.

I've been wondering about the Jon Snow / Lyanna thing for a while now too.

Yes, and if you make Dany 18 then Jon and Rob have to be the same age, as they were all born during or just after Robert and co overthrowing the Mad King.

Joffrey is more forgivable when he is just turning 13, rather than the 16 or 17 that he appears to be in the show. Slightly.

None of the women have pubes in GoT. Did they shave them off in the olden days then?

Having read the first three books, I'm the one who recommended to DH we get the season 1 DVD, having NO IDEA how much nudity there was going to be in the first episode alone. What with already having to find out about the incest bit I thought he might find it too much. Clearly not Hmm
It's one thing to read it but quite another to watch it in all its glory. I was sooo embarrassed but he's not said a thing about it and keep going on about getting season 2. Still I can't bring myself to recommend it to anyone in RL

Does anyone know why they've started putting random unfitting songs on the end credits for s3?

I love all the nudity, male, female whatever. It is a brilliant book/tv series and what makes it so enjoyable is that it is so unpredictable and so un pc. It's a refreshing change from all the watered down, sterile rubbish that saturates most of the channels these days.
