BBC saying that Thatcher has died following a stroke

OP posts:
ParadiseChick · 08/04/2013 22:07

Hate speech?! Grin

That's a good one.

redlac · 08/04/2013 22:07

They were all in Scotland Fergus! We certainly didn't vote the Tories in, just like we didn't vote the current lot in

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:08

The left really aren't doing themselves any favours with all this gloating over the death of an old lady. You don't see the right gloating over the death of people from the left. I remember the shock and sorrow when they announced John Smith's death at the Tory conference.

FergusSingsTheBlues · 08/04/2013 22:08

I certainly didn´t hear anybody complaining when they were able to buy their council houses, or actually be able to wash by electric light rather than candles, or watch as a generation of girls could watch a working mother in full swing.

We would have had to shift towards a service economy rather than an industrial one in the end because the world was changing and at least she could see that.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:10

Fox news' take on it is fascinating.

ReturnOfEmeraldGreen · 08/04/2013 22:11

We weren't all in Scotland (actually I was, but I prefer to forget all about it). Percentage voting Conservative in general elections:

1979 43.87%

1983 42.44%

1987 42.23%

1992 41.93%

FergusSingsTheBlues · 08/04/2013 22:12

The people slating thatcher are not restricted to Scotland.

AnyFucker is right, you get the government you deserve.

TB is far more evil.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:14

The way the constituency boundaries were carved up helped the Tories immensely. Huge, sparsely populated Tory heartlands cancelled out urban, working-class Labour voting areas.

redlac · 08/04/2013 22:18

Fergus tell me how does Scotland deserve to be saddled with the Tory party when there is 1 Tory MP to represent Scotland?

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:18

The Tories got over 2 million more votes than Labour in each of the 3 elections that Thatcher was leader for, (and for that matter, in the 1992 election).

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:20

Redlac, Scotland is not an independent country, You might as well say why should Surrey have been saddled with the Labour party from 97-2010 when they didn't have many/any Labour MPs.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:23

Fargo
There are three major parties in the UK. Combining Labour and LibDem votes far more people voted against her than for her in those elections.

redlac · 08/04/2013 22:24

Does Surrey have millions of people who feel their voice wasn't heard for years?

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:26

Combining Tory and Libdem votes far more people voted against Tony Blair than for him. In each of Labour's 3 election wins. But we have a FPTP system.

Sheshelob · 08/04/2013 22:27

Hate speech?!

Definition: Speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

AP - I don't think being insufferable Tory scum counts as a group that can be targeted for hate speech. I could be wrong. They are, however, a group that has been consistently responsible for it, with Thatcher as their figurehead.

Grow up?! I did. Under Thatcher.

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:28

"Does Surrey have millions of people who feel their voice wasn't heard for years?"
What does that have to do with anything?

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:28

Yes but Fargo, you are banging on about all the people who voted for her while ignoring the fact more voted against her.

redlac · 08/04/2013 22:30

It was you who was comparing Surrey with Scotland

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:30

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes, you don't vote against a party in elections. It isn't Big Brother. You vote for the politician you want to represent you in your area, usually on party lines. Considerably more people wanted Tory politicians representing them than Labour, Libdem or anyone else.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:31

Clause 28, the Poll Tax and calling Nelson Mandela a terrorist were also low points in her time of Government.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:33

Haha Fargo I grew up in a mining town. DH grew up in one of the most impoverished districts of the poorest city in the UK. Believe me, people DID vote against Thatcher.

Fargo86 · 08/04/2013 22:35

I also grew up in a mining area. Plenty of people lost their jobs here, some moved on with their lives, some did not. The ones who did not are probably celebrating tonight. What they'll do tomorrow, I don't know.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/04/2013 22:38

Believe me, we've moved on. We've had to.

Redbindy · 08/04/2013 23:15

If Thatcher had never existed the mines would have shut. She acted on the obvious.

EllenParsons · 09/04/2013 00:03

Descipable some of the nasty comments on here. I think it is so tasteless to be celebrating and dancing Hmm about the death of an old lady.
