to think having a photo of your child as your Facebook profile photo is sad?

I mean a photo of just your child/children without you in it too.

I absolutely love being a mum, and I love my children more than I could ever say but I still have an identity - I'm not just a mother.

Haha yes! I bought myself a paid of acid wash skinny jeans which I'm slightly in love with (sad I know)

GregBishopsBottomBitch · 02/03/2013 21:02

Miaow You can make yourself unsearchable, or just block him.

ScarletLady02 · 02/03/2013 21:03

I'm glad you knew what I was talking about Grin

I was worried you'd think I was weird.

Not sad at all....I live almost exclusively in acid wash and grey cowly (if that's a word) slouchy stuff. You should check out All Saints if you haven't already....their stuff is LOVELY!

AcidWashSkinny · 02/03/2013 21:09

I love All Saints, I have a rule though - I only ever wait until they have a sale haha.

All their pieces get reduced by 50% and they always have every size available and plus I'm cheap haha.

I can only EVER afford their stuff if it's in the sale, their sales are fantastic. Either that or look on ebay. I got a £90 Hitch skirt for £17, didn't even look worn Grin

I've recently acquired a lovely jersey shift dress by them from my Mum as she's lost weight so it's too big...but it fits me fine!

Crafted and Religion have some good bits as well....again, look on ebay, and look in the men's section - I have a gorgeous Crafted top that is a man's one (I'm wearing it right now)

Sorry MAJOR thread hi-jack!

mrspolkadotty · 02/03/2013 21:20

Because i cringe when i see photos of myself but my dcs are beautiful

If i didn't have such an odd-looking mug i would have one of me!

My FB pet hate is 'couple accounts' ie. Liz n Dave Smith or stupid fake middle name ie Tracy 'Leon'sMummy' Brown - bleughhh! (fake names btw!)

Hulababy · 02/03/2013 21:23

I think pouty duck face ones lots of young women have are worse!

I currently have one of DD on our holiday. It's a photo I took - my hobby is photography - and she is far prettier to look at than me Wink Besides she looks like I did when little anyway Grin

I sometime shave photos of other things I have taken photos of too - depends on waht I have been photographing recently. DD is my most common photography topic - so yes, it's often her too.

I don't use the image as my identity though Hmm Fb isn't that important in my life tbh. My FB friends know what I look like after all. I just chose a picture I like and is relevant to me at the time.

Wishfulmakeupping · 02/03/2013 21:24

I'm proud to be sad then OP- why does it bother you what other people have as their profile pic anyway

akaemmafrost · 02/03/2013 21:27

No it isn't.

Awizardsstaffhasaknobontheend · 02/03/2013 21:28

Well I am an old minger but my DD is lovely and the center of my world!
But please also consider that as a single parent most of my pictures od DD dont have me in them as I am taking the picture. We always ask people if they wouldnt mind taking a picture for us but lots of the time its just the two of us.

Hulababy · 02/03/2013 21:28

And yes - agree; I don't always want pupils looking for me and seeing my photo. I do tend to have my account so it isn't searchable, but sometimes do change it for various reasons. But at least without my picture they can't find me just that way - was even more important when I worked in the prison ed.

ScarletLady02 · 02/03/2013 21:28

The "pouty duck face" ones are hilarious Hulababy

I call them the "Myspace pose" as that's where I first saw them.

ArtemisiaGentileschisThumb · 02/03/2013 21:30

OMG our profile pics are meant to define us? I'd better take Cpt Picard off in case people think I'm a space captain.

oldraver · 02/03/2013 21:30

I think it sad that people see an FB profile picture of children and assumes the parent has no identity....but there you go.

My kids are cuter than me, I rarely have my photo taken and dont like it if someone does try and sneak one, its a rare pic I would display

nailak · 02/03/2013 21:33

it is sad for so many people identity means face, and if you dont want others to see your face then you have no identity...

is that really what defines us?

Hulababy · 02/03/2013 21:34

ScarletLady02 - agree! Dread DD getting older and attempting these rather than her lovely proper smile!

Finbarfinbo · 02/03/2013 21:35

YANBU. Im off to change my pic from my beautiful DD to a one of me pouting half naked into a mirror.

howdoo · 02/03/2013 21:40

Crikey, I think the complete opposite to the OP. I have a picture of DS on my Facebook profile partly because he looks great AND funny (has a bucket on his head), and the reason I don't have one of me is because I think it's often very "Wow don't I look f*ing gorgeous".

PurpleMacaroon · 02/03/2013 21:43

I think most of the people that are saying YABU is because they do have a photo of their DC as their profile photo ..

But yeah nothing wrong with it.

Poppet48 · 02/03/2013 21:44

YABU, I am extremely shy and I have no self confidence but one thing I know for sure is that my DS is gorgeous, handsome, beautiful If I do say so myself and I want to show him off.

If someone dislikes that, Unfriend me and get over yourself.

howdoo · 02/03/2013 21:45

Arf Finbar - totally agree!!

5madthings · 02/03/2013 21:49

My current profile pic is a Lego model, the vampyre monster castle built by ds2 and ds3 at Xmas. Its bloody fab and the buggers has now taken it apart and rebuilt it into some bastardized Lego creation, it will probably never be rebuilt 'properly' ever again :( but at least I have a picture of it!

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 02/03/2013 21:52

YABU! Mind your own business!

RandallPinkFloyd · 02/03/2013 22:05

I have a face like a bag of second hand spanners.

My DS is cuter than cute. Simple as that.

I also have a beautiful dog and two very lovely looking cats, they've all had their turns in the limelight. I don't feel particularly sad about it. Should I be silently weeping into my meal-for-one?

As for pictures on my desk. I don't particularly enjoy my job and I hate being away from my son, but I'm an LP so it's up to me to earn our living and be his example. Seeing his face keeps me motivated and reminds me why I'm there.
