I mean a photo of just your child/children without you in it too.

I absolutely love being a mum, and I love my children more than I could ever say but I still have an identity - I'm not just a mother.

OP posts:

Penelope I agree with Gogo...
And for the record yes, I love showing off my gorgeous daughter to my colleagues. I am as much her mum as I am their colleague.

YABU

My kids are the best looking, most talented, most intelligent etc. etc.

The world needs, dare I say, wants my kids wall to wall whenever they venture near me on facebook.

Also they are a darn sight more picturesque than me

IslaValargeone · 02/03/2013 20:14

I think perhaps you are over thinking the psychology of a FaceBook profile.
Defining identity. Really?
My dh has our dc as his profile picture, most likely because she is lovely and he really aint photogenic.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 02/03/2013 20:14

There aren't many photos of me because I'm usually the one taking the photos.

scottishmummy · 02/03/2013 20:14

Personal choice,I think its nice

idiuntno57 · 02/03/2013 20:15

Also my kids are small enough to fit in the little box they give you to put your photo in

freddiefrog · 02/03/2013 20:15

Not sure about cover photos but just profile photo has an individual setting so you can make them private.

Thanks. Will have to investigate

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 02/03/2013 20:16

up until last week my fb picture was a melon... really hope my friends dont think its actually me Grin

ScarletLady02 · 02/03/2013 20:16

AcidWashSkinny - random question, but I love your username - is it related to your fashion choices? If it is then that's awesome...if you have no clue what I mean then sorry Grin

I don't like any pictures of me that was taken in the past 10 years so put a lovely picture of my kids.
Choosing a picture if me in my 20s would have been sad, I think.

Vev · 02/03/2013 20:18

YABU.

GirlOutNumbered · 02/03/2013 20:20

Another teacher! So never have my own picture up, sometimes have either of my sons, sometimes something random. A picture does not sum up my identity!!
Do you only have a picture of yourself then? Is it a nice professional portrait seeing as you take it so seriously.

cocolepew · 02/03/2013 20:22

My profile picture is Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, he's much better looking than me.

XBenedict · 02/03/2013 20:22

Nah don't want to be recognised by my patients searching for me so I usually have my DCs as my profile picture. They are well cute Wink

LeeCoakley · 02/03/2013 20:23

Well some of us don't see ourselves defined by Facebook. To me it's just a place where I make silly remarks to colleagues out of hours. I don't need an 'identity'. It's more sad that you think you need one.

MmeLindor · 02/03/2013 20:26

Well, I prefer to see a pic of the friend, especially if I don't know them in RL, cause it is nice to have a pic, but it doesn't make me think that they don't have a life.

Most people change to something different as their kids get older, and ban them from putting their photos on FB.

I find it much worse when they have 'mummy' in their name, or share a FB or email account with their husband.

LindorFamily @ gmail is ok, but daphneandbert @gmail is just cheesy.

HarrySnotter · 02/03/2013 20:32

OP you do realise its just a social networking site and not terribly important don't you? Perhaps you should spend less time on FB then it won't upset you so much.

RobinSparkles · 02/03/2013 20:32

Nah, it's not! People put pics of all sorts. I'd much rather have people see my beautiful DDs, every time I "liked" or commented on something, than my ugly mug!

TapirBackRider · 02/03/2013 20:44

I've had pics of my dcs, my dog, various cars that I like, scenery, myself during the No8 campaign and many random funny animals.

I currently have a fetching pic of a scotsman wearing orange leather shorts, thigh high boots and a pony tail - it makes me giggle every time I see it.

Why on earth does having a pic of my dcs as my profile picture mean that I don't have an identity outside of being a parent? Hmm

Ghostsgowoooh · 02/03/2013 20:44

Yabu.
My dc are better looking than me, I currently have dd2 as a 1 year old baby toddling over the sand at Blackpool beach. You can't see much of her face but my mum has captured her perfectly, it's a lovely photo. Dd3 has her face on my profile pic but she's wearing a pair of swimming goggles with a huge goofy grin,

I on the other hand look terrible. Who cares who puts what in fb.

DesiderataHollow · 02/03/2013 20:47

Mine's currently a jigsaw piece. I'm certainly not that shape IRL.

I find it a bit meh. It's harder to find people if you can't check who they are, but its hardly life defining is it?

I'm currently Father Jack...

wannabedomesticgoddess · 02/03/2013 20:52

I have my own identity. Its not defined by my DCs or facebook.

But right now, being a mummy is my primary role. It wont be long before my kids will be up and out living their own lives. I am making the most of it now.

Then I can have a pic of a dog or a random piece of fruit.

TolliverGroat · 02/03/2013 20:54

I currently have as my profile picture a cartoon character who shares none of my DNA at all . I think I have an identity outside watching cartoons.
