To feel sorry for the Australian DJs?

Obviously more sorry for the nurse's family. I wonder how long she was having suicidal thoughts for? I can't think this could have been the only cause,

But these pranks have been going on for such a long time and those DJs could not have predicted such a result and are going to have to live with it for the rest of their lives.

It's such a tragedy and I feel very sad for all concerned.

They are sorry for their own arses nothing else.

templerun · 10/12/2012 10:44

do you know what annoys me most about comments on here... it's the ones that say she was humiliated. that workmate would of taken the piss out of her and that friends and family would of made her the butt of all jokes. Surely then they should be to blame for her death and not the two DJ's that said they were sorry!!!

Secondly my comment "she couldn't of been that tightly strung" was not heartless. She was clearly sick and suffering from depression. I could never leave my child without a mother and condemn her to a life of misery because of something that, in the whole scheme of things is not that big... she only put the call through.

QuickLookBusy · 10/12/2012 10:45

Agree Threesocks.

There were also a lot of people on that thread saying the nurse shouldn't be deciplined as she gave out very little info anyway. A tiny minority of wind up merchants were saying she should be sacked.

FriendlyLadybird · 10/12/2012 10:47

I don't. I hate pranks like this, including that 'journalist'/comedian who used to have a go at big businesses -- it's always some hapless member of frontline staff who's the victim: a receptionist or security guard.

It's not even as if this was some off-the-cuff idea. It was thought about, recorded, and then APPROVED FOR BROADCAST.

Templerun, I really hope you never suffer mental illness or are called on to support anyone who is ill. Not everyone is as 'strong' as you, patently. While in an ideal world, we all think we would deal with x or y in the 'right' way, we don't and cannot know how we will cope with unforeseen situations.

Some people leave others behind because they feel they are a burden and that their family's life will be better without them, or because they are so ill that they cannot see a way out. It's terribly sad, not a reason to berate someone and almost look down on them for 'weakness'.

And what does "she couldn't of been that tightly strung" mean, anyway?

templerun · 10/12/2012 10:50

Funny how post saying the DJ's should go to hell aren't being reported but my post about how selfish a mother is for killing herself has. Double standards hey!

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 10/12/2012 10:52

My last post was to templerun oh and don't underestimate the emotional maturity of a 12 year old, I know quite a few who put some of you to shame.

Sadly one 13 year old who knows all too well how suicide affects a family.

farandawaysheran · 10/12/2012 10:52

Even one comment was too many.

But that's what happens here, we pass merry judgement and gp in our way and almost all the time that's the end of it.

helenthemadex · 10/12/2012 10:53

it's the ones that say she was humiliated. that workmate would of taken the piss out of her and that friends and family would of made her the butt of all jokes.

the call was accessible on line internationally via you tube and the radio station website, it was on the news worldwide you cant get bigger and more embarassing than that. I like to think her family and workmates would have been supportive of her

had the call not been made she would today be just another nurse doing her job, the DJ's were not blameless in this

LondonNinja · 10/12/2012 10:53

Didn't see that post about the DJs. Didn't report your post either, but can see why others have.

But anyway, if God forbid one of the DJs was to do something drastic (and I sincerely hope that nothing like that happens) you'd say "oh well, they had a choice; they can't have thought of their families", wouldn't you??

I have... I have also tried to kill myself after suffering from depression for several years and so therefore know what I'm talking about. I know how selfish people are when they are going through things like that, as I was told several times by my counsellor. I have also had a friend kill themselves and a friend try to hang themselves...

I know more about mental issues that you have forgotten... I could write a book on it. And my first chapter would be "life is not that bad and you can get over whatever it is that's making you feel this bad".

mindosa · 10/12/2012 10:58

I think what they did was quite nasty. KMid doesnt need her medical condition broadcast.
However they are clearly not responsible for the death of the nurse. Nobody was really hurt by the call so it was certainly not something you might expect someone to take their life over

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 10/12/2012 10:58

templerun would you so accommodating and still call it a minor incident if it was your child or mother that had killed themselves?

No. I'm guessing you wouldn't.

templerun · 10/12/2012 10:59

jumpingjane

I'm going on the facts that have been realised and not what I think... unlike you

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 10/12/2012 11:02

YOU TRIED TO KILL YOURSELF! FFS templerun but you have no empathy whatsoever for this nurse.

I won't write what I think of you because it will be deleted and I'll probably be banned.

templerun · 10/12/2012 11:03

When someone you know commits suicide you find anyone to blame apart from the person themselves. And yes I would be wondering why she had done it and thinking if only I had know she was feeling so low about something so minor I could of told her that no one cares and she's still a wonderful person.

And life goes on... hugged her and told her that it will be tomorrow's news soon.

HeftyHeifer · 10/12/2012 11:04

Templerun your comment about J not thinking about her children when she killed herself is utterly vile.

templerun · 10/12/2012 11:04

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin

no I don't. I feel empathy for the people she left behind

templerun · 10/12/2012 11:06

HeftyHeifer

Committing suicide is the most selfish act you can do. And no she probably didn't think about how her children could possible feel after she's gone... otherwise she wouldn't of done it.

lifeintheolddogyet · 10/12/2012 11:06

I heard the interview with them on the radio this morning. The woman said that the events had been 'unforeseeable' because pranks like the one they pulled happen all the time. Actually, they don't! Perhaps in her tiny world of tacky radio shows they do but most of society don't do things like that to each other.

It's horrible, and I feel no sympathy for the DJs or the managers or anybody involved in the 'prank'. On the same news segment this morning there was a quote from a columnist about it; he called it symptomatic of the 'casual cruelty' at large and I have to agree.
