To feel sorry for the Australian DJs?

andapartridgeinaRowantree · 08/12/2012 00:38

Obviously more sorry for the nurse's family. I wonder how long she was having suicidal thoughts for? I can't think this could have been the only cause,

But these pranks have been going on for such a long time and those DJs could not have predicted such a result and are going to have to live with it for the rest of their lives.

It's such a tragedy and I feel very sad for all concerned.

I didn´t think that she had been named until after she had died?

And the other nurse is still unnamed(?)

Mrskbpw · 10/12/2012 10:08

I haven't read all 21 pages of this thread, but I'm really shocked that the hospital isn't taking any responsibility.

Of course the Australian radio station is to blame - of course they shouldn't have done such a ridiculous prank. BUT did the hospital not give their staff training about this sort of thing?! If you're the go-to hospital for the royal family, then you should expect calls from the press (and that doesn't mean I'm condoning the DJs) and you should be taught how to deal with them.

I think it's really sickening that the hospital isn't accepting any of the responsibility at all. If it was routine that the nurses answered phone calls, and routine that the royal family were patients, then they should have had training.

It's Kate Middleton for crying out loud. And she's PREGNANT. Did they really not anticipate any media interest?

templerun · 10/12/2012 10:11

I don't understand how it could of been humiliating it no one knew her name. You guys keep on mentioning that she felt she was backed into a corner. The hospital told her that she wasn't going to loose her job, the palace said they were taking no action, the DJ's apologise ... the only people saying she should of been sacked was the British media and people online... probably the same people on twitter that are saying the DJ's should be shot!!!

SantaFrontPaws · 10/12/2012 10:11

I suspect it wasn't the actual prank that she found humiliating and impossible to live with, but the thought of the media camping out on her doorstep, snapping her doing the shop, harassing her family and friends, digging onto her personal life, photos of her on the front pages of rags and highbrow newspapers alike...

Wow, some real disgraceful comments on this thread - mainly from the lynch mob.

It was a crap prank. They were idiots.

We've all made mistakes. Thankfully it is very rare that something rude/stupid tips someone over the edge. Count yourselves lucky.

Wowserz129 · 10/12/2012 10:13

To be honest the nurse as sad as it is shouldn't have told them the information. Confidentiality is huge in nursing and I don't think the DJ would have expected her to tell them anything.

Nancy66 · 10/12/2012 10:14

Santa - that would not have happened.

All she said was 'hold on ma'am I'll put you through'

...it was the other nurse that gave all the information away.

templerun · 10/12/2012 10:16

Can I just point out that the nurse in question was the nurse that transferred the call, the one that is on the recording for about 2 seconds and not the nurse that gave any information away... and no one is camped on her doorstep, or taking pictures of her shopping.

natation · 10/12/2012 10:17

Where did anyone here wish that the DJs were dead? The worst I've read here is that they would perhaps deserve to lose their jobs over this and perhaps those others responsible too at the radio station. I really haven't read any worse than that so I am puzzled about those claims people want them dead too. That is a horrific thought.

As for those who are going on and on about the hospital needing to take responsiblity, about the nurse having CHOICES in her death, oh please it's all just so bad taste. Please wait until the inquest before making unfounded statements. No-one but those directly involved knows the hospital procedures, knows what happened to those 2 nurses after the prank, so stop it please, stop making assumptions.

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes, some of you. Grow some compassion brain cells

Totally. The shoes of everyone involved.

Unless you are some divine omnipotent being who has total insight into the mindset and motivation of all those in this sorry tale.

QuickLookBusy · 10/12/2012 10:19

Well I do think the press were trying to find out both of their names. Of course they were, it was the biggest story of the week.

LondonNinja · 10/12/2012 10:20

"I don't understand how it could of been humiliating it no one knew her name."

Some people don't need external reinforcement to feel remorse. They have a conscience and they feel what they feel because it's the way they are made.

Don't criticise someone else's sensitivity, especially as she has two kids who may be reading this. Thought of them, have you?

Nancy66 · 10/12/2012 10:21

Quicklook - no, they weren't.

PumpkinPositive · 10/12/2012 10:22

She would have known about the rules and codes of conduct, every nurse and midwife knows the one relating to confidentiality it is force fed to you, I dont know if it would be the hospitals or her professional body The Nursing and Midwifery council who would make the choice re discipline

Did she actually do anything worthy of sanction though? She just patched the call through. It was the 2nd nurse who actually took the call and divulged the information. JSs mistake seemed pretty minor compared to what followed once the call was transferred.

I'm not convinced there wasn't some kind of "preparatory" work done by the radio, ie, someone phoned ahead to advise hospital a member of the Royal Family would be calling shortly. The call was patched through far too smoothly - surely there was more than one Kate in the hospital??

It's very convenient for the hospital to deflect the firestorm entirely onto the radio station. Saves them having to deal with criticism towards their, frankly risable, "security" protocols.

I do wonder why this thread has stayed
seeing as the dj's are said to be very upset.

farandawaysheran · 10/12/2012 10:38

Sorry, it called, pitchforks blazing and positively shivering with sanctimonious judgement, for their "sacking"

OhDearNigel · 10/12/2012 10:39

Templerun, you have gone far enough in your attempts to be provocative and shocking. I have reported your 10:28 post and I hope they delete most of the other offensive garbage you have posted as well

threesocksfullofchocs · 10/12/2012 10:41

no it didn't
i posted on the other thread
a lot of people quite rightly posted that the nurse that gave patient information out should have be disciplined. that is what happens when you cock up in your job.
most people like me would not have been aware at that time that a nurse put the call through.
talk about re writing history
