to not want my friend to bring her 6mo to our Christmas meal?

Be prepared I have my judgey pants on.

We have organised our meal for the weekend before Christmas. Friend is bringing her 6mo baby because the one and only time she has left him, he refused to take the bottle.

She has since then never bothered to try again. My baby took ages to take to the bottle too so I know how hard it is, but I persisted and eventually we got there.

The table is booked for 8 and we will be there is probably at least 10 so its going to be late. The restaurant is fully booked so it's going to be noisy. I just don't feel this is a great environment for a baby.

aibu to not want her to bring him along?

(she has a bf and they live with his family so there isn't a shortage of people willing to look after him)

It's not hygienic or pleasant to change a baby at a restaurant table, people are eating or about to eat, not acceptable. There are times I am sure especially when the baby is a lot older when changing one handed will be impossible, they will need changing when they are not feeding. A young baby like I presume you have probably under 6 months yes.

janey68 · 08/12/2012 10:28

Staroflight- don't believe a word you're saying now! Just because you've lost the argument doesn't mean you have to enter fantasy land !

pigletmania · 08/12/2012 10:29

How old is your baby star btw. I have seen you in Sn section, does one of your dc have ASD?

StarOfLightMcKings3 · 08/12/2012 10:31

One week to go piglet. I already acknowledged that 6 months is a transitional age and babies can fall either side of the dependent/independent thing that can make such a night out possible- or not.

Baby had a bit of banana yesterday and yes his nappy turned to vile, so we'll have to adapt to that socially.

londonone · 08/12/2012 10:32

Baby poo does smell ebf or not. People will have noticed you changing your baby but were too polite or gobsmacked to say anything!

ifancyashandy · 08/12/2012 10:34

Star if I saw you changing a nappy at the table next to me in a restaurant, I would ask the waiting staff to intervene. At the very least, I'd expect them to ask you to cease and bloody desist! If you refused, I'd expect them to ask you to leave.

StarOfLightMcKings3 · 08/12/2012 10:34

You can't say anyone has noticed. I was there not you and even I didn't bloody notice.

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2012 10:34

I'm picturing someone changing a nappy on a bouncy castle and it strikes me as possibly one of the least practical places on Earth to attempt this. Wouldn't any sensible person get off the bouncy castle first?

janey68 · 08/12/2012 10:35

Yes noble- the clue is in the word 'sensible' Smile

pigletmania · 08/12/2012 10:36

Oh your due anytime

LoopsInHoops · 08/12/2012 10:36

Come on Star, I'm on your side but please, do you wash your hands?

StarOfLightMcKings3 · 08/12/2012 10:37

Right. 3 points to the poster who can find where I said I change nappies at eating tables.

Enough of the misinterpretations to back up non-arguments.

londonone · 08/12/2012 10:37

You didn't notice yourself that you were changing a nappy? Were you on some sort of drugs that stopped you being aware of your own actions?

StarOfLightMcKings3 · 08/12/2012 10:38

Mostly I have hand gel stuff as I have a bit of a thing about public toilet sinks but didn't really want to mention in case those with the non-arguments tried to interpret that into another personal attack.

pigletmania · 08/12/2012 10:39

I don't think that the baby is permanently attached to star there are situations when it will be impossible. A sling is probably very useful

StarOfLightMcKings3 · 08/12/2012 10:40

No. Baby is 1 week shy of 6 months.

ifancyashandy · 08/12/2012 10:41

Star many of us have interpreted your comments as meaning changing at the table. We're all misinterpreting Hmm?!

You've stated you don't use changing rooms and this thread is about babies at tables in restaurants... Not too tricky to surmise you'd change at the table.

londonone · 08/12/2012 10:43

And all your comments about the smell of baby poo being no worse than he smell of garlic!

janey68 · 08/12/2012 10:44

London- PMSL

staroflight- you can change a nappy on a bouncy castle while simultaneously feeding, holding a conversation and drinking a martini - oh and no one notices, not even you!!

Omg this thread would be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that staroflight probably in real life doesn't do anything half as exciting as drink martini on a bouncy castle but does bore the tits off everyone with her talk of '4th trimester' and 'bending the baby'... Zzz

pigletmania · 08/12/2012 10:47

Oh right don't think baby would be permanently attached at that age, they would be more active, exploring, crawling etc

pigletmania · 08/12/2012 10:48

It would nt be demand fed like a very young baby most probably

janey68 · 08/12/2012 10:49

Piglet- they should be, yea, but not if they are welded onto mums lap in a busy restaurant where it will impinge on others if they are allowed to normal 6 months old stuff.

janey68 · 08/12/2012 10:50

X posts piglet- the baby should be doing all the exploratory stuff you mention

londonone · 08/12/2012 10:51

Star reckons her baby feeds every 40 mins. Don't know how long each feed is but I would guess baby would be attached much of the time
