To ask for the money to repair my scratched car?

Yes, I know I was in the wrong to some extent....I was parked just on the zig zaggy bit, in a rush waiting for DD to come out of school. Old lady drives past, knocks wing mirror and pulls into her driveway leaving the cover of her wing mirror in the road. She then had a rant at me as I shouldn't have been parked there and I've just gone back to my car to see the back wing all scraped by her wing mirror. Should I go to her house and ask her to pay, I've a feeling she'll just give me another mouthful, DH will be sooo mad at me later

You were parked on the zig zag lines outside a school at collection time?

I think you should absorb the cost and make sure you don't park there again.

You could pursue it but of course where you were parked will certainly be brought into it by her. I don't know if that would make a blind bit of difference or not, claim wise.

I am sure that where ever you are, if you are stationery and hit by another car then they are liable.

You were parked wrongly, and you both know that. She won't pay you, she is more likely to shout at you for parking somewhere illegally. Her insurance won't pay you because you were illegally parked. So she's got nothing to gain by paying you.

It must be pretty annoying living by schools, and not being able to pull into your driveway because people have parked on zigzags.

You were quite lucky that the police didn't ticket you, really, they do around here! Tell DH at least you avoided a fine.

How deep are the scratches? Could you fix them yourself?

Bugger, Ironic thing is I never do owt like this, soo out of character, and I was in a tremendous rush collecting her for an exam, no excuses....

You were parked illegally. You could get a £60 fine and 3 points for parking on zig zags. They are there for a reason.

No excuse for parking on zig zags to be honest, think you have been bitten on the arse by karma.

Still annoying though I grant you.

If its just the top layer of paint then t cut will work. Very small amount. It is harsh, but this is what it's designed for. If its down to the metalwork then no point with the t cut.

This is typical of me.....1st time I do the slightest thing wrong and bam......other people get away with it, I think she did it on purpose, as I passed her the cover back she said' oh, I'm always doing that it's loose I just pop it back on' - yeah, after scraping other peoples cars bitch!

Prior to having DD 4 years ago, I worked as a claims handler, we were able to chase for money despite where the client was parked if another collided with their vehicle.

Not sure if that has since changed?

You were wrong to park where you did, but you know that already

Maybe she did do it on purpose. Maybe she is sick to the back teeth of people illegally parking and making it hard for her to get onto her own drive.

Good for her really, I dont think she is being a bitch at all!

Just because others do it and get away with it doesn't make it right!

I love how people are so laid back about parking on those lines outside school. 'i was in a rush' isn't an excuse.
The lines are their for the childrens saftey, which includes your child.
if she refuses to pay, i don't really see what you can do.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it makes any difference if you were parked illegally or not. She hit your car, which she shouldn't have done, as it was stationary. Had a friend who hit an illegally parked car and he was told by his insurers that it didn't make a blind bit of difference; he'd hit a stationary object and therefore he was 100% liable.

Personally, I'd put in a claim. Shouldn't be too hard to get her details as you know where she lives.
