Agrees Aztec Bars were well lush.

The world is not going to end.
Mumsnet has spoken.

It's hard when suffering from anxiety to get things into perspective and sort out fact from bumf spouted by those with an agenda.
Do you think you need to discuss your increase in anxiety with your doc?

kaylasmum · 06/12/2012 12:56

hi, i'm feeling less anxious today so hope it was just a blip in my otherwise fairly stable mental health. I've had lots of family stress over the past few weeks and these kind of things can trigger bad anxiety episodes. I'm just going to try to putit out of my mind for now until i see something else about it in the media.

Thanks for everyone thats tried to calm my fears.

AboutThyme Thanks for the links. I knew 2012 was bunk, but now I can direct people to good info Grin

emblosion · 06/12/2012 14:23

Sure, even if the world was to end there'd be nowt we could do about it, so worrying is a total waste of time!

FrequentFlyerRandomDent · 06/12/2012 14:30

YABU.

The only worry about these end of world stories is that some loonies will believe it and organise a massive attack somewhere, 7/7 style. Or make a movie where zillions of people die horrid deaths but the shy, underdog hero still gets to kiss the girl of his dreams.

FrequentFlyerRandomDent · 06/12/2012 14:32

Glad you are feeling better today.

ChippingInAWinterWonderland · 06/12/2012 14:40

KaylasMum - I am glad you are feeling better today. I can't imagine my daily life being impacted by things like this as yours is, it must be so very hard.

handsandknees · 06/12/2012 14:43

Well, it had bloody well better not end. I have a holiday booked from 29th.

Seriously, though, I hope you are feeling better OP.

perceptionreality · 06/12/2012 14:47

I'm glad you feel better too - I know what anxiety is like. I've had mental health problems in the past and I'm much better these days but I have the odd anxious day when it feels like things are going to go wrong when there is no rational reason to think it. Even if you know it's your state of mind it feels real.

kaylasmum · 06/12/2012 22:13

Well fingers crossed the 22nd of december still comes round.

guccigirl666 · 06/12/2012 22:34

I also have anxiety but feel strangely calm about this... I worried myself sick in the past about the world ending - the number 11 stalked me for a while and on 11/11/11 I was a nervous wreck, and NOTHING HAPPENED :D The one thing anxiety has taught me is that 9/10 you have nothing to worry about, and if for whatever reason your worry is founded, it's never as bad as you worry it will be.

Pandemoniaa · 07/12/2012 00:16

Look, if the world were to end on the 21st December (which it won't) you wouldn't know anything about it. Because it would have ended.

ike1 · 07/12/2012 00:25

Anyway it ended 31st dec 1999 when all the computers in the world crashed and microchips imploded. x

kaylasmum · 07/12/2012 11:57

If it were just to end in an instant that Would be fine. Its the thought of volcanoes erupting, earhquakes ans tsunami that worry me. The thought of my children going through that terrifies me!

The website listed earlier by AboutThyme is very good: www.2012hoax.org/

No doom and gloom, just careful debunking of the whole shebang. I spent an enjoyable afternoon yesterday wasting time reading it Blush

HeadlessChristmasLambrini · 07/12/2012 17:04

My theory about the whole thing, based on extreme scientific research is that the mayans were just happily sitting there drafting out their calendars, when their mum's called them in for tea, and afterwards they just didn't fancy carrying on.

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 07/12/2012 17:22

Had to giggle.

My new sofa's are being delivered on the 21st!

Hopefully Grin

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 07/12/2012 19:41

sky news have issused appocolypse warnings about staying safe? and everyone is saying not to worry? Im shitting myself now.

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 07/12/2012 19:45

i am actually terrified now

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 07/12/2012 19:46

why would they say that if it wasnt going to happen

TherapeuticVino · 07/12/2012 19:50

Rocking the Sky News report is a piss-take. "Fit a smoke alarm"???? It should make you feel better as all the big institutions quoted are laughing about it :)

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 07/12/2012 19:56

it still scares me does everyone honestly think its not going to happen?

TherapeuticVino · 07/12/2012 20:04

It is NOT going to happen. I used to get sucked into all these crap "predictions" and actually feel scared. Then I did some research and realised what total bollocks they all are (including this one).

Basically to summarise, the Mayans calendar runs out on that day (except it actually ran out last year due to them ignoring leap days). It is the same as looking at your 2012 diary and shitting yourself that the world will end on Dec 31st 2012 as that's the last day your diary has in it......

kaylasmum · 07/12/2012 20:41

did sky news really issue warnings? thats sounds really scary.
