Aibu to think it's a bit rubbish to use "9.30 is so early!" As an excuse / complaint?

Ds2 is to be Christened on Sunday. Some people who are distant, duty invites like cousins, have said it's too early as they are far away, and that's fine. But loads of other people, who are very local have said "9.30?!?! Seriously?? Well we'll try...." It's pissing me off.

It's very early on a Sunday. Really, really early.

It's when the church service always is, I don't dictate the timetable.

No, it's really early. Getting a whole family up, ready and to a venue by 9.30 on a Sunday is a big endeavour. I wake up early with DS at weekends but I love that we don't have to get dressed or go anywhere for hours!

Sounds very rude to me, but I am a Church goer and love Sunday mornings . Some people just don't surface until midday at weekends, but are they the sort of people you want at your son's Christening? Presumably the Godparents can be there? I would think that is all that matters. Hope you have a lovely day. .

Seriously, it takes me an hour to he ready - unless I was actually shagging you or a very close relation you're not getting me up that early.

Sorry OP. You need to be able to go out to lunch/pub straight after. 9:30 is waaaay early.

That does seem strange if they're local.

I get up with ds 5 months at 5am everyday so to me it would be do able!

But I think to most normal human beings it's very early on a Sunday !

Sorry Cathy, but for a Sunday, that is early. Lots of people like being able to have a leisurely slow start to the day. That said, if you were a good friend, or close family, I would be there regardless.

That's my point, it's a one off, it's a Christening. If it's too early to bother, then just say no, not we'll try, I'm trying to cater for this for afterwards! Not desperately impressed with the three "We like a lie in, so might just come for the nibbles after", either!

DS is being christened next Sunday and it is a 9am service round here so your lot have a lay in!

It's much too early. That's only my opinion of course.

hmm, most churches have a service around10:30am -11am, although usually with an earlier, around 9ish service - most people would assume a Christening would happen in the 10:30ish service.

We normally go to the 9:15am service at our church but when given the choice, we got DS christened at the 11am one. I don't think some people even know there's an earlier service...

That was my first thought too. Ours is at 9.00am.

But on the other hand the Catholic church doesn't have Christenings.

But a Christening is not a wedding or party, is it? It's incorporated into the main service. I couldn't change it if I wanted to.

It is early but not so early that you would mention it to the host. The polite thing to do is think "fucking hell" in your head and yell at your dcs from 6pm the night before "hurry up and get to bed, we've got to be up at the crack of dawn."

It's not Catholic, bog standard C of E, but it's a rural church where the vicar is shared.
